'Parks and Rec': Ron Swanson's 'turkey burger' is now a reality, proves he needs to write a (very unhealthy) cookbook.

Every gross-yet-delicious-sounding food item Ron Swanson has mentioned on Parks and Recreation has made my mouth water in fatty shame. Last week’s turkey burger (a fried turkey leg inside of a grilled hamburger) was no exception.

Today, I learned food dreams come true: The people at eater.com (via HuffPo) have created such a concoction! They simply took a fried, 1 lb+ turkey leg and smashed it the middle of 5 lbs of ground beef, stuck it in the oven, and, once cooked and grilled, placed it between a round loaf of bread. That’s right: over six pounds of food. READ FULL STORY »

'Glee' takes Manhattan -- like the Muppets, but with more screaming

Glee-Bloomberg

Mayor Michael Bloomberg had a message for the cast of Glee this afternoon: Welcome to Manhattan! At least, that’s the jist of what I think was said at this afternoon’s press conference, held outside the same place Wicked calls home on Broadway.

To be honest, I didn’t hear much between the poor sound at the podium and the chattering foreigners who were arguing with the press over a prime photo-taking position in the crowd. Not that one had to hear much to get the point: Glee‘s in Manhattan filming their season finale, and, like everything else, the city wanted to bring as much attention to it as possible. The surprise? It was a lot of (welcomed?) hoopla — even for the Glee team.  READ FULL STORY »

Netflix is officially the biggest video-on-demand subscription company

Categories: Movies, Netflix

Netflix has put Comcast in quite a fix: The video subscription service has officially overtaken Comcast, boasting more subscribers than the Cable TV operator. In fact, according to the company’s earnings, Netflix welcomed 1.1 million subscribers per month in 2011′s first quarter, bringing its subscriber number to a grand total of 22.8 million in the U.S., and 23.6 million globally. That latter number bests Comcasts’ — the cable operator boasts 22.8 million subscribers. And Netflix shows no signs of slowing down: Some have put the company’s subscriber number at 30 million by the end of 2011.

Now, I could ask you, PopWatchers, the simple question: Do you have Netflix? But I want to also ask you: Has having Netflix replaced your desire to go to the movies? READ FULL STORY »

'Gossip Girl' poll: Which man is Blair's best match?

I’ve always wanted to have Blair Waldorf’s problems. (Which fabulous dress should I wear today? Which of my fabulous futures should I pursue? There are too many macaroons!) But this has never been more true than right now. Presently, Queen B finds her heart torn into three pieces: One belongs to a Bass-hat, another to a prince, and another to Dan Hump-free.

Now, this has been a position of great debate in the Gossip world, so I figured it’s best if we put this to a vote. Let’s break down her choices:

'Saturday Night Live': Ed Helms to host alongside musical guest Paul Simon. Who are you more excited to see?

Ed-Helms

NBC announced today that Saturday Night Live‘s May 14 episode will feature The Hangover Part II and Office star Ed Helms as host, and Paul Simon as musical guest. So which is easier to get excited about? It’s a tough question. For one, Paul Simon has appeared on Saturday Night Live as musical guest a whopping eight times, and boasts a hosting stint during the show’s second season. That appearance brought us the famous cold open in which Simon playfully ribs a peddling Chevy Chase — who left the show after one season — and George Harrison negotiates his appearance as musical guest sans three other Beatles with Lorne Michaels. (See clip of the 1976 sketch below.) On the other hand, you have first-time host Helms, whose work on The Office has been tragically ignored (by the Emmys), and was the only actor to come close to stealing scenes from Zach Galifianakis in The Hangover. Plus, judging by his work on “Stu’s Song” (also embedded below), and Andy Bernard’s stint with Here Comes Treble, Helms could even double as musical guest himself. READ FULL STORY »

Al Pacino's birthday: My gift for him includes Oscars for 'Godfather,' 'Serpico,' 'Dog Day Afternoon'...

Scent-of-a-Woman

To celebrate Al Pacino’s 71st birthday today, I’d like to suggest something drastic. I’d like the Academy to exchange his Oscar for Scent of a Woman for another honoring his role as Michael Corleone in either of the first two Godfather films. No need to steal trophies back from other deserving actors, like Joel Grey (Cabaret) or the late Art Carney (Harry and Tonto) — this isn’t about them. This is about Pacino, whose magnificent film work in the 1970s has aged like a fine wine. Nominated for an Oscar for four straight years — for the two Godfather movies, Serpico, and Dog Day Afternoon — Pacino simply breathed life into characters that no one else could play, then or now.

It’s not my intent to disparage Scent of a Woman or Pacino’s award-winning performance as the blind Lt. Col. Frank Slade. It’s a decent movie and a fine role, but it also epitomizes the hooah-type characters that Pacino made a habit of playing to diminishing returns in the 20 years since Scent came out. 'Cougar Town' Penny Can calls continue: Watch Courteney Cox answer one

Okay, so the exclusive video embedded below of Courteney Cox answering her first 1-855-Penny-Can call backstage at Jimmy Kimmel Live! last week would have been funnier if the caller had said he wasn’t hoping to get her. But still, it’s visual proof that the cast, creators, and writers are taking turns with the phone, which ABC tells EW has been ringing non-stop. They’re still passing it around this week, so it’s not too late to roll the dice and dial. Has anyone gotten through to someone? Share your story below. (We’d like to applaud Courteney’s caller for ending the conversation gracefully before she had to.)  READ FULL STORY »

'Jersey Shore' takes on Oscar Wilde, or is that the other way around?

Everyone knows Oscar Wilde was fond of one-liners, but would he have been a fan of “That’s what she said?” Moreover, how would the man who loved his bachelors have felt about The Situation? We’ll never know. But you can be sure that it is hysterical to watch Santino Fontana and David Furr, who play Algernon and Jack in Broadway’s current revival of Wilde’s Importance of Being Earnest at Roundabout Theatre Company, act out scenes from Jersey Shore as their very English characters (and in full 19th century costume). “Work blows d— for skittles right now” was apparently meant to be said with a stiff upper lip. Check out all five episodes their web series “Jersey Shore Gone Wilde” below. (Take heed: They contain profanity and are NSFW.)  READ FULL STORY »
