We’ve said it before: CMT’s best show is CMT Crossroads, a concert series in which country artists team with artists from different genres to perform each other’s songs. Check out the full list of pairings, but think Sugarland and Bon Jovi, Taylor Swift and Def Leppard, Zac Brown Band and Jimmy Buffett, Keith Urban and John Mayer, Jason Aldean and Bryan Adams, Reba McEntire and Kelly Clarkson, Dolly Parton and Melissa Etheridge, and the Dixie Chicks and James Taylor, to name a few. Our new dream duo: Trisha Yearwood and Adele. READ FULL STORY »

Roger Ebert wins 'New Yorker' cartoon contest. Was it a career-achievement award?

For years, Roger Ebert has entered the New Yorker‘s cartoon caption contest, and for years, his wittiest efforts were rebuffed. He’s not afraid to admit that it bothered him. In fact, back in 2009, he even wrote extensively about his frustration. “I have done more writing for free for the New Yorker in the last five years than for anybody in the previous 40 years,” he lamented. “It’s not that I think my cartoon captions are better than anyone else’s, although some weeks, understandably, I do. It’s that just once I want to see one of my damn captions in the magazine that publishes the best cartoons in the world. Is that too much to ask? Maybe I’m too oblique for them. The New Yorker‘s judges seem to live inside the box, and too many of their finalists are obvious — even no-brainers, you could say.”

Well, it took him 107 tries, but the Pulitzer-Prize winning writer finally won, framing a lost couple wandering in the desert beneath an F parking-lot sign with, “I’m not going to say the word I’m thinking of.” The New Yorker recognized Ebert’s persistence in its announcement, generously including some of his previous entries. 'The Killing' Clue Tracker: Do the 'Bits and Pieces' point to a serial killer?

Categories: Television
The-Killing

Sunday’s episode of The Killing introduced a mystery that has left me as obsessed as the matter of Rosie Larsen’s murder: Just how many Del Tacos are there in Seattle? Linden’s fiancé Rick poked at the detective’s increasingly bad eating habits as she gave more of her time and mind to the investigation. “Drive-thru at the Del Taco doesn’t count,” he said. Linden smiled at his concern. “Busted!” she said. Now, I grew up in Seattle, and I don’t recall a whole lot of Del Taco franchises. According to its website, the fast food chain – popular throughout California – only has five locations in Washington, and the closest one to Seattle is in Federal Way, which is about 20 miles south of the Emerald City. While most journalists would surmise that the show made a mistake (“Busted!”), my superior mind and golden gut – honed by years of successful investigative work (yes, a Lost reference) — tell me that that the writers wanted us to buy into the reality that Linden loooooves that Macho Burrito so much that she’s willing to drive wayyyy out of her way to get it. It speaks to her dedication… or possibly obsessive or compulsive or even addictive tendencies. Yes! That was some seriously top-notch analysis I just gave you right there! Bodes well for the rest of the column, doesn’t it?

THE KILLING CASE FILE

EPISODE FIVE: “SUPER 8″ (NO CONNECTION TO THE J.J. ABRAMS MOVIE INTENDED. I THINK.)

OLD LEADS: Last week Linden and Holder zeroed in on Bennet Ahmed, Rosie’s English teacher, as their chief suspect. READ FULL STORY »

Evian's babies dance again (sort of) in new hypnotic commercial

Baby baby, Evian’s hoping their revived babies campaign will put your heart in motion. Just two years after releasing its “Babies on Skates” commercial — which ranked above Gary Busey but slightly below Sixth Sense-era Haley Joel Osment on the creepy-adorable scale — Evian has launched a new ad channeling the spirit of the energetic infants. (Fun fact: The 2009 commercial holds the Guinness Book of World Records title for being the most viewed ad on the Web.) The spot is pretty awesome and mesmerizing, but the Ally McBeal fan in me wishes the company had opted to use “Hooked On a Feeling” as the background track instead of “Chicks on Speed.” Click the jump to see the commercial. Warning: The hypnotic ad might suddenly make you feel parched. READ FULL STORY »

Paul Reiser slams NBC for show cancellation: 'When you're the last place network, you don't want to jeopardize that.'

Jay Leno was probably looking for some awkward fun when he kept his plans to have Paul Reiser on his show even after NBC axed Reiser’s new show last week after only two episodes. Encouraged to address the cancellation, Reiser told Leno that the dismal numbers were to blame, but, “NBC, to my knowledge, they don’t traditionally make bad decisions. I don’t know what your experience is.” Leno doubled over his desk in laughter as Reiser continued. “[NBC said] ‘It’s a great spot. You’re opposite American Idol.‘ … It turns out, [they] enjoy missing you more than having you.”

As “knuckleheaded” as Reiser thinks the decision to be, he said he doesn’t blame the network. “When you’re the last place network, you don’t want to jeopardize that. You found your niche, stay there.” READ FULL STORY »

Christina Aguilera talks Super Bowl flub, her passion for 'The Voice': Welcome back, girl!

Tonight, NBC’s new singing competition The Voice debuts, and Christina Aguilera has been making the talk show rounds. She talked in detail about her Super Bowl flub with Ellen DeGeneres, explaining that she’d sung the anthem for the Steelers in her hometown since she was seven or eight. “I think I had a moment where I was at the Super Bowl at 30 years old. I took in the moment a little bit too much. Shoot me for appreciating the moment. But I was like, ‘Here I am at the Super Bowl, singing for a team and in front of the world and remembering what it was like to be that young, and look where I’ve made it now,’ and then it’s like, OH. And that night, I knew,” she said, laughing. “I was like, I just made myself a Trivial Pursuit question. ‘In 2011, what female singer flubbed the lyrics….’”

With Jay Leno, Aguilera talked about all the experience she brings to her team of Voice contestants when it comes to dealing with the ups and downs of show business and getting through mistakes by preparing yourself for the next time, when you want to show people you’re stronger. Watch both interviews below. READ FULL STORY »

'Game of Thrones' argument turns violent; Florida man arrested for throwing cousin into window

Remember how, when Lost was on, you used to get into a profound debate with your friends about whether Jack or Locke or Sawyer was cooler? Well, you were all wrong, because Desmond is the coolest. But you know what I mean: It’s fun arguing about our favorite TV series, especially epic shows with sprawling casts and exciting action and themes. However, when arguing about TV, it’s best to remember the golden rule: Violence is never the answer. Michael Podniestrzanski forgot that fundamental rule of engagement on Sunday: According to The Smoking Gun, the Florida native was watching the second episode of Game of Thrones with his cousin, Joshua Ross. Martin Short plays 'Jersey Shore' cast in Kimmel short: Watch!

On last night’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Martin Short debuted the trailer for his labor of love, Jersey Short, a cautionary tale of what happens when Snooki gets pregnant and delivers a pickle. He stars in every role. The best moment is Snooki’s entrance. Watch it below.

Also: Short looks pretty good as a woman, right? It got me thinking that he should star in a drag comedy with The Kids in the Hall. This is just off the top of my head: What if six guys going through a midlife crisis wanted to buy a mansion owned by a dying widow (played by Betty White). It’s so big, they could each have their own wing to impress the ladies. The widow says there’s no way she’d sell her beautiful estate to a group of men. If they were women, maybe. The men figure they can dress in drag long enough to outlast the widow. What about all the paperwork they’d have to sign as themselves? Okay, so the widow has a greedy son who handles all of that, and he won’t tell on them as long as they [insert bribe from each of them]. Bad? Yes. But again, just off the top of my head. Lindsay Lohan receives standing ovation on 'Tonight Show' -- VIDEO

Days after spending a few hours behind bars after a judge ruled she stole a designer necklace and violated her probation, Lindsay Lohan was embraced by the audience of The Tonight Show with a standing ovation. Lohan taped an interview with Jay Leno after yesterday’s show, and the segment will air tonight. According to the Associated Press, the host reportedly asked Lohan about her legal troubles, her time in jail, and what she’s learned from it all, as well as her role in an upcoming John Gotti film.

But about that standing ovation. What does it represent exactly? Is she truly beloved despite all her mistakes? (Or because of them?) Or is a standing ovation just something you do when a celebrity graces you with his or her presence? Watch a short ovation-free clip below. READ FULL STORY »

'RuPaul's Drag Race' season finale: America's Next Drag Superstar is...

Two weeks ago, after the last original competition episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race that pared the queens down to a final three — that’d be last night’s competing trio: Raja, Manila Luzon, and Alexis Mateo — two polls were posted here on EW.com: One asked who should win, while the other asked who will win. So let’s talk some real, scientific data. Late yesterday, the poll results were as follows in the should win category: 44 percent said Raja, 29 percent said Manila, and 27 percent said Alexis. The will win category was a bit (although not much) different: 69 percent of voters said Raja would win, while Manila garnered 18 percent of the vote, and Alexis grabbed just 13 percent.

Well now, the official poll results are in, Drag Racers! Minutes before the hour ended last night — after both a music video competition and the usual runway look-off — RuPaul announced: “Ladies, I have made my decision. The winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race, America’s Next Drag Superstar, is… READ FULL STORY »
