Of all the hundred million reasons to praise Super Mario Bros. 3 — the warp whistles, the shy ghosts, the questionable assertion that raccoon body parts allow you to fly — you should never forget about the iconic musical score by legendary game composer Koji Kondo. Musician Scott Bradlee has put together an acoustic version of the score, set to a hypnotic speed-run of the game. It’s a classy, jazzy tribute, full of fun little moments — pay special attention to the moment around 10:35, when Mario fights Bowser. Check out the full video below:

You would think with all of the ideas people come up with these days, that there would be a cure for cancer by now.
While I get your point, I don’t know if I’d trust a cure for cancer coming from a musician who has crazy ideas! lol
you want to cure cancer? stop sitting on your lazy butts all day getting fat on potato chips playing video games
If you like this then you should 1) look up OC Remix because they have several acoustic versions of Mario songs by other artists (not to mention remixes of music from other games) and 2) look up nerdcore on YouTube. A lot of good stuff there.
I also heard a little while back that there is an official Jazz soundtrack for the F-Zero games.
Aaaaamazing!!!
This was mesmerizing.
mario bros.. it’s the game any idiot can win
The music during the Fortress level (approx. 5:40) sounds like Wham’s Careless Whisper.
It sure did sound just like Careless Whisper. What was up with that?
No doubt that IS Careless Whisper. Maybe just a little nod to an awesome song.
I also heard the Simpon’s theme song and, of course, Maneater for the Bowser battle.
I almost feel guilty for finding that so entertaining!
Sooo many good memories of playing this game as a kid. So much fun. Good times.
I have so much I need to be doing at work right now, but I just sat and watched that whole thing. Productivity is overrated…Super Mario 3 Forever!
It kind of made me think of the Zelda Fairy theme I heard in Scott Pilgrim. I’d love to have that on my iPod.
I had no idea I would enjoy it that much or sit and watch the entire clip OR that you could kill Bowser like that! And don’t get me started on all those extra lives, how did I not know after all the hours invested. Oh well, probably the most entertaining thing I’ve seen all week, possibly of all of 2011!
Nice spin of the Super Mario 3 game, and using the Wham classic Careless Whisper. Boy, that speed must’ve been the fastest anyone had mastered the game.
You’re an IDIOT if you sat here and watched all 11 minutes of this.
Yes. Yes I am.
After playing this game for what must have been tens of thousands of hours, I had no idea you get extra lives that like. Sheesh, my cousin who gave me “all the cheats” never taught me that, darn him.
Loved hearing Wham’s Careless Whisper and the theme of the Simpsons. And of course, Maneater!
Oh, and I also didn’t know you could kill Bowser like that. Wow, this game would have been much easier if I had known that. Kinds of makes me wish I still had my old Nintendo.
play it on your wii silly.
