A report surfaced this morning that producers of the 2011 Tony Awards were looking to shake up this year’s June 12 telecast by hiring Chris Rock (who’s currently starring on Broadway in Motherf—er with a Hat) to host. But we’ve got some sad news: Word from Rock’s camp is that, though the comedian and former Oscar front man hasn’t ruled out being involved in the night’s festivities in some way (most think Motherf—er is a shoo-in for a nomination), he will not be MC-ing the show.
Rock would have certainly provided an interesting shakeup to the Tonys, but now that he’s out of the running, we have another, off-kilter suggestion for the Tony staff to consider: The Book of Mormon‘s Trey Parker and Matt Stone. Just a thought.

“EXCLUSIVE”?!
Thanks EW. When I want news on things that are NOT happening, I now know the only place to get the scoop.
Let’s just thank god it won’t be Chris Rock, I’d have to turn down the volume on my flat screen because he yells through everything!
I vote that Chris Colfer be considered for the host…..just saying.
I think that traditionally, the Tony Awards host has been someone that’s performed on Broadway. If you were going to go with someone from ‘Glee’, it would have to be Matthew Morrison, Lea Michelle, Jenna Ushkowitz, or Jonathon Groff.
don’t want to step on your lines, but that should be “SHOO-in,” not “shoe-in.”
Lea Michele
or, Whoopi
Kathy Griffin
OMG, yes! TREY PARKER and MATT STONE would be the perfect hosts for this year’s TONY AWARDS! And I hope they get a slew of TONYs for their musical “The Book Of Mormon!!”
I agree with Trey Parker and Matt Stone – they would be AMAZING and keep everyone on their toes. I don’t always watch the Tony’s but I would if they hosted.
Or yes, Kathy Griffin. She’d be good too.
