We’ve said it before: CMT’s best show is CMT Crossroads, a concert series in which country artists team with artists from different genres to perform each other’s songs. Check out the full list of pairings, but think Sugarland and Bon Jovi, Taylor Swift and Def Leppard, Zac Brown Band and Jimmy Buffett, Keith Urban and John Mayer, Jason Aldean and Bryan Adams, Reba McEntire and Kelly Clarkson, Dolly Parton and Melissa Etheridge, and the Dixie Chicks and James Taylor, to name a few. Our new dream duo: Trisha Yearwood and Adele.
Yearwood did a Crossroads with Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds in 2007, but we’ve seen Keith Urban and Kenny Chesney do multiple episodes, so why not Trisha? They could open with Yearwood’s “Sing You Back to Me,” which would set the tone for an evening of beautiful heartache. The middle segments: Yearwood’s “Georgia Rain” and a stripped version of Adele’s “I Set Fire to the Rain”; Adele’s “Chasing Pavements” and Yearwood’s “Let the Wind Chase You”; Yearwood’s “Walkaway Joe” (I forgot that’s Matthew McConaughey in that video!) and Adele’s “Don’t You Remember” (it’s just begging for a steel guitar, don’t you think?); and Yearwood’s “This is Me You’re Talking To” and Adele’s “Someone Like You.” They’ve both recorded Bob Dylan’s “Make You Feel My Love” — listen to Adele’s and Trisha’s — so that’s their closer, followed by an encore of Adele’s “I Found a Boy,” which bookends the evening with just two voices and one guitar. Note: During the wrap-around rehearsal and interview footage, we’ll need to see them harmonizing on the chorus of Yearwood’s cheeky “Cowboys are My Weakness” (which would be good alternate opening, and they could joke that it’s their last happy song). And, we’ve purposely left off Yearwood’s “How Do I Live” because we can’t have Adele doing a song from Con Air.
Who’s with us?

Eight songs on Adele’s iPod

Perfect! But they must sing Yearwood’s Where Are You Now!
yes please.
I would add Yearwood’s “Real Live Woman” to that set list.
Trisha’s “The Song Remembers When” should also be on this list.
I’ll totally sign this petition.
Where do I sign?!!!! That would be amazing!
Perfect! Where do I sign? And make sure to add Trisha’s “Down on my Knees”, that would make it an awesome set list!
that would be amaze-balls! adele would have to do her two “hits”, though. you can’t not have “chasing pavements” and “rolling in the deep”. i second brookiesmom with “down on my knees” but also feel some love for “everybody knows.” this pairing would be almost as good as wynnona & heart, which is my gold standard for CMT crossroads.
Add Yearwood’s “I Would Have Loved You Anyway” and I’m in!
Rolling In the Deep MUST be on the setlist though!
Oh I like that idea! Wynnona Judd and Adele would be sweer too! But where do I sign for Adele and Trisha!!
I DO enjoy crossroads. in addition to the ones listed above, i enjoyed little big town and lindsey buckingham. and the fogerty-urban was really just pure fun, though not necessarily fantastic. anyway, an adele-trisha yearwood pairing would be so lovely.
You forgot one of the best Crossroads–Martina McBride and Pat Benatar!
Add me to the Adele/Trisha petition, and please add “Nearest Distant Shore” for poignancy, and “Wrong Side of Memphis” for some kick-a@@ blues.
LOVE this idea. Crossroads is one of the best shows. The only way to make it better would be to release the duets for downloads!
CMT needs to invest more in the Crossroads series and stop with the ridiculous reality tv crap they air way too much. There have been some duds like Faith Hill and Chrissie Hynde but for the most part they are really entertaining to outright fantastic. Dixie Chicks and James Taylor, Keith Urban and Fogerty, Martina and Train, LBT and Lindsey Buckingham. I wish I had thought of Adele/Trisha together myself. She’s already done a cover of Need You Now with Darius Rucker. Someone sign these ladies up!
