Great news, Friday Night Lights fans: NBC is going to be auctioning off props from the show — things like coach’s sunglasses and Tim Riggins’ farm coat. But there’s one decision that’s sure to raise at least an internal debate while casting your bids: Would you rather own Panther or Lion gear?
Admittedly, I hated the idea of the Lions in season 4. Their colors were far inferior to the Panthers’ yellow and blue, and the spirit that characterized the show for me was lost. (Of course, like he often did with the players, coach Taylor brought me around to the idea of the Lions.) Now, I’m conflicted.
Part of me thinks I’d rather go with the Lions, because when I visit Texas, I wouldn’t want anyone to mistakenly think I support the real-life Panthers of Pflugerville High School (recognize that “P”?). But admittedly, even after learning how to be a Lion in the last two seasons, I admit that my loyalties still lie with the Panthers — even after their douchification in season 4. (I simply pretend that didn’t happen.)
What about you, readers?

Lions gear. Although if I could have #33′s jersey I’d be happy too. But I’d really like to have Tammy’s sunglasses.
*Tami…oops
I like the Panther colors a lot more…but I just couldn’t stand them at all after season 4. (“Douchification” is the pefect way to describe it.)
I even changed my fantasy football team’s name from the Dillon Panthers to the East Dillon Lions because I wound up hating the Panthers so much. (By the way, it speaks to the show’s brilliance, how it got me to completely flip on a team I’d loved for three solid seasons.)
I am really conflicted, but seeing Seven in the photo makes me want a Saracen jersey…
I hated the Panthers in Season 4 but ultimately, the heart of the series is #7 and #33 in Blue.
This, exactly. My love for Seasons 1-3 can’t be overshadowed even by the brilliance of 4 & 5.
#33 in Panther blue or nothing.
#33 in nothing
seroiusly? is this even a question? the panthers are the TV football team equivalent of the evil empire. I snuggle with my Lions sweatshirt blankie every night.
I am pretty sure the original high school is Permian, in Odessa, TX- not Pflugerville. At least it was in the book “Friday Night Lights” written by H.G. Bissinger.
Permian was the original school, and the reason the TV show probably named the team the Panthers was to be able to use the same uniforms, but it’s probably not a stretch to think that a town like Pflugerville would copy the designs to try to be cool.
that’s not what the article is saying, if you click the link, that school in pflugerville sports the same logo/mascot/color scheme.
Clear Eyes. Full Hearts. Can’t Lose.
I fell in love with FNL when we all still rooted for the Panthers. So there is my answer.
“Clear Eyes, Full Heart, Can’t Lose.” What a great maxim that says it all for FNL. Too bad our society would rather watch faux reality shows and not content that reflects how our communities really are, not the bubble some try to project. Realistic depiction of the teens growing up in various challenging home conditions (Riggins and Saracin), single parent families and their struggles (Cash and Vince), the real things even “good” kids do (Street, Lyla, Landry, Luke, Julie), and that there are real stand up guys around (Luke, Riggins, Landry and Saracen) that may not always be recognized for their real character, and smart girls discouraged by their socioeconomic class, (Tyra, Becky), and that rich parents can be out of touch with the community outside their country club (the McCoys).
While I started hating the Panthers in season 4, I gotta go with the original… #7, blue & yellow.
@Darrin- You are correct that the school depicted in the FNL book is the Permian Panthers in Odessa. However, one of the bonus features on the season DVDs says that the actual football sequences for the FNL TV show are filmed using real Pflugerville Panthers football players.
Probably have to go with Panthers…however much it would pain me.
how about the pole at the landing strip? a hub cap off a stolen car at riggins’ rigs? a crucifictorious t-shirt?
or tim riggins’ boxers? i’d even take billy riggins’ grey briefs
I’d have to say Lions Gear because the Panthers turned out to be such jerks. Honestly? I want Coach’s black jacket!!!!
Why choose? I say both! I have both a Panthers and a Lions shirt from the NBC Experience Store. That way I can support all seasons of the show.
