I just kept thinking I want those two to fall in love and make a baby. They are so flippin genius together. LOVED IT.

For me, last night’s episode was FAR BETTER than I had expected. I tend to like Will Ferrel, but didn’t think his “over-the-top” comedic approach would fit on The Office. But, he toned it down quite a bit and played a more sincere role. I loved it and felt that the writers did what they do best…make the show as true to real office life as possible. Everyone was trying to make a good first impression on their new boss. That happens in real life. Sure, in sitcom life it often gets exagerated, such as the whole Darryl in a Cowboy outfit(which was hilarious!!), but that is why the show is so funny! Losing Michael Scott is like losing a good friend and nobody will ever replace him. But, as DeAngelo said, he’s “Adequate” and needs to be viewed in that light. For the love of God, can we get more CREED??

Eh. Will Ferrell did better than I expected, since he played a reasonably mature adult and he didn’t do much in the way of showboating. The episode itself…I give it a shrug. Parts were good (like the Ed Helms stuff or Erin answering the phone), but parts were just totally boring and I didn’t care at all (Jim and Pam trying to prove how great their spawn is, Michael’s played-out jealousy about the way a new boss handles his soon-to-be-former employees). I feel pretty guilty, but it’s become kind of a relief to me when The Office is over and I can sit back and enjoy P&R (awesome) and 30 Rock (even when subpar, still more enjoyable than The Office). I want to love The Office, and I really liked the proposal episode, but last night and many other times this season, I’ve been kind of bored.

Yeah, I agree with pretty much everything you said. I don’t know if “boring” is the right word, but things just haven’t been as enjoyable as they used to be at the office, with only a couple exceptions this past season, namely some of the episodes with Holly. I don’t watch Parks and Rec, but I definitely think 30 Rock is more consistent than The Office. The writing is just so clever, and I don’t think I’ve ever actually flat-out disliked any episode; I think it actually helps that they don’t have a huge emotional aspect to the show.

I liked the contrast between the two characters….they can’t be too similar and Ferrell is leaving the role options. I didn’t see Miner at all…Miner was a pro and not a goof-ball. My guess is that this is supposed to be a 4 episode transition to soften the blow of Carell’s departure. If we don’t like Will, then his replacement will be less shocking and if we do like him; well….we like him.

It was great. loved the Training Day movie reference. Im surprised more people didnt catch that. Every show has its ups and downs. I love the characters too much to see the show end. I hope they keep going, but I will miss Michael!

Where is my going away party? I feel that throwing parties (even for no reason at all) has become a beloved ritual at the Office. Heck, they even threw a party when Toby left! The fact that Michael didn’t even throw himself a goodbye party was disappointing. He didn’t even say an official goodby—no famous last monologues. His last act was to give DeAngelo an awkward embrace in a private moment that the office staff really couldn’t even see. I expected more melodrama—especially from Michael Scott.

  • Angela

Definitely a mixed-bag. There were moments of hilarity (the opening was probably the highlight, for me), but I think I expected more from Ferrell. The character really didn’t feel all there, and it didn’t really gel at all. It was actually quite disappointing, especially given how great Michael’s proposal episode was.
