It’s been almost three years since Tina Fey debuted her much-lauded and uncanny impersonation of Sarah Palin on Saturday Night Live. But now, with the news (first reported by TV Line) that Tina Fey will reprise her role as SNL host on May 7, I’m finding myself hopeful that she’ll decide to put a lid on the Tea Party figurehead impression. Why? Here are five reasons why the two-time host should skip a Palin sketch for her third go-round:
1) Between Sarah Palin’s Alaska, Dancing With the Stars, and Fox News, we’ve gotten our fare share of televised Palin. Besides, Minnesota’s Michele Bachmann is much more interesting anyway. No, over here, Michele! (Hey Kate, January 2011 wants its joke back!)
2) We’d much rather Fey focus on her newly released gem, Bossypants. Perhaps a creative reading? Or a sketch or two inspired by some of her best (translation: most awkward) stories?
3) Remember when a ridiculously pregnant Amy Poehler had us ugly crying with laughter watching her dance with Josh Brolin in a sketch set in a seedy bar? Well, if a five-months pregnant Fey could find a way to play up her own pregnancy for even half the laughs, we’ll be cooing.
4) It won’t help 30 Rock. In her book, Fey notes all the attention surrounding her Palin did not increase her NBC sitcom’s ratings. But she can get more 30 Rock viewers by simply doing what she does best: Being extraordinary funny.
5) We can already see Russia Palin sketches from our houses Hulu.
What do you think, PopWatchers? To Palin, or not to Palin? And what do you hope to see Fey do during her SNL episode? Weekend Update?

I think we’ve all moved on from Palin. Must be a slow news day at EW. Hey, why not another American Idol story?
ha!
Another Lady Ca Ca story would be more like it.
Tina Fey is a great lady.. Needs some new material though. Desperately.
didn’t she just put out a comedy book? How much new material does she need?
SNL has been terrible for months.. I’ve always thought if they would only bring back Tina it would help to make the show enjoyable again.
More like terrible for years..
I agree she shouldn’t and she shouldn’t have revisited it last time she hosted either. That was such a part of its time that any revisit to it will only diminish what made it souch a pop culture phenomenon. We were all getting to know SP at the time, now we know and the majority don’t care…let sleeping pigs in lipstick lie.
No Palin and I don’t even think she’d do it anyway. She’s not in the news so much currently.
I’m sure Tina is pretty over it. I wish they would do another Mother’s Day special like the fantastic Betty White episode last year.
How about another Mom Jeans commercial? Maternity Mom Jeans maybe?
That is a great idea!
I really don’t care what she does, I’m just excited she’s hosting.
Agreed. Don’t overdo it. LOVE her Palin impression but let’s not give the real SP any more publicity; and save it for when some really good material comes along- last few Palin skits haven’t been that good.
“Over” it or no, that Palin impression is some of the best political satire SNL ever produced, and if they find a reason to bring it back, I’ll find a reason to laugh.
And if the heavily-watched Palin impersonations didn’t help 30 Rock’s ratings, then it’s safe to say any attention on SNL doesn’t carry over to 30 Rock, and not impersonating Palin will also have no effect on ratings.
I’d like to see her do Palin again, something to do with the Teabaggers and the government shutdown.
Why not “Five reasons she should never appear on Saturday Night Live again”?
No one should. Stop covering this TV show.
I think it’d be ok for her to do it .. but only in a Celebrity Jeopardy setting;) it’d be hard for Her, Farrell & Hammond to be in the same sketch and not be funny.
Holy crap that’s the greatest idea I’ve ever heard. Add Kristen Wiig as Michelle Bachman and you’ve got gold. If only you could ALSO add Will Ferrell as George W. Bush.
Except Will Ferrell and Darrell Hammond aren’t cast members anymore…
What is “Being extraordinary funny”? If you mean being extraordinarily funny, then I think you are referring to someone other than Tina Fey because she has, at most, been ordinarily funny. NEVER extraordinarily. Who writes the typo-laced internet articles anyways??
That’s less of a typo and more of a difference of opinion. In any case, no one would describe someone else as “the ordinarily funny Tina Fey.”
Extraordinary is a adjective. Adjectives describe nouns. “Being funny” is an action, a verb. Therefore, the appropriate usage would be extraordinarily because it is an adverb. Simple grammar, not opinion.
SORRY. I just can’t get enough of Tina Fey as Palin. It is comedy gold!!!! Now they need to get Timberlake and Ferrell back to host (and Carell)
Oh, and hire some better writers!
Never watched Fey; never will. She is just a parasite.
Tina owns you emotionally.
Please elaborate. A parasite on what? Lorne Michaels? NBC? Stop using buzz words you don’t even understand.
How can Tina top last year’s Betty White episode?
I LOVE TINA FEY! I don’t care what she does; I’m just really glad she’s hosting again! I can’t get enough!
