Looks like what happened in Bangkok stays out of the theaters: The Los Angeles Times reported earlier today that Warner Bros. had requested that its trailer for The Hangover Part II that premiered last week be pulled from all theaters. Now, Warner Bros. confirms the news to EW, releasing this statement: “In our haste to meet the placement schedule for this trailer, we failed to properly vet the final version with the MPAA. We acted immediately to correct the mistake and removed the trailer from screens.”
Apparently, the trailer had been airing before screenings of the PG-13 Source Code, and though you’d be hard pressed to find any complaints about the Hangover trailer on the Web (or, heck, amongst your friends), its adult content — including a shot of a monkey mock-simulating a sexual act — was deemed too inappropriate for under-17 audiences. But because there was no outcry (a source tells EW that the studio had not received any complaints) we have to ask: Were you offended by The Hangover Part II trailer?
Perhaps I’ve been desensitized by three complete seasons of both Jersey Shore and Rock of Love, but I’ve been more disgusted by episodes of network series like The Bachelor than the Hangover Part II trailer. (Even when the trailer came out last week, we didn’t stick a NSFW caveat into the post.) Admittedly, though, the trailer’s final joke is a bit off-color — and something a parent accompanying a 13-year-old child to Source Code might not want to see. (Even if a good number of PG-13 movies also feature plenty of violence and disturbing images. Yay hypocrisy!) But theater audiences should expect plenty more raunch from The Hangover Part II: A source says that Warner Bros. will ready a trailer appropriate for R-rated audiences to air in front of Scream 4.
But what do you think, PopWatchers? Would you be offended seeing the Hangover Part II trailer at a PG-13 movie? Or, rather, should we be? Are we too desensitized? For a refresher, see the trailer embedded below.

Maybe a little too risky for PG-13 movie audiences. However, I was not offended at all by the trailer.
Isn’t the true offense here that some poor 13 year old child had to see the Source Code?
Burn, Source Code!
Not undeserved either.
Two words: publicity stunt.
Justin thinks it’s too “risky”.
LMAO.
Sex being more offensive and less desirable than violence. Only in America…and the Middle East..
Risky? Or risque?
For the most part, risque, but truthfully, thinking this trailer is inappropriate for audiences under 17 is pretty ridiculous to me.
Our ratings system is retarded. God forbid you see some natural nudity or a little sexuality, but violence is perfectly alright. The American viewing public and ratings agencies need to pull the stick out. I’d rather see violence made more R rated than a few boobs and people getting it on.
I agree. The ratings system just feels out of touch and irrelevant.
Violence is fine for 13 year-olds, but nudity will warp their poor little minds??
Thats totally Bass Ackwards if you ask me.
(Tried to post earlier – so sorry if it shows up)
I think there should be an overhaul of the ratings system. No more PG-13. Instead there should be a PG-11 and a PG-15. My example: Avatar PG-11; I Am Legend PG-15. Do away with PG all together and make R movies for adults only – 18 and up. Does anyone else have any examples of poorly rated PG-13 movies we could move into either category? Am I too overboard with this idea?
I was offended that it looks exactly the same as the first one. It will probably still be funny but that’s pretty lame. Aside from the setting it looks identical.
ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!
I was offended it wasn’t longer LOL looks freakin’ hilarious
That’s not offensive, it’s hilarious!
Hey let’s not be stupid and act like 13 year olds don’t think that joke is just as funny as 43 year olds. If they got complaints, they came from parents who brought their under 13 year olds to Source Code. I know in our theater there was a kid who looked around 7 in there. Why?
I was only offended by how this departs from the Hangover 1 IN NO WAY WHATSOEVER.
This. But the unwashed masses will eat it up.
The Asian gangster dude from the first one being in it is just too much. Without him I maybe could have gotten behind this but that’s just ridiculous.
What are you TALKING about? It’s in Thailand! And…they lose someone else this time…yeah, I got nothing.
hee hee
ITA. Seriously, where does part deux not repeat the original? Lame…
HEY! There is a MONKEY instead of a TIGER, it’s a completely different movie!
Actually I think the monkey replaces the baby.
I guess i’d like to know Courtney how you’d like a movie called The Hangover to deviate from it’s original. Do you want The Hangover 2 to be about them having a slight headache in the morning but nothing bad has happened so everything ends happily. It is The Hangover. It is going to be about these three guys getting another awful hangover and forgetting everything that has happened. It is The Hangover. What did you expect in the sequel?
@Jack – I expected that the filmmakers would try for at least a shred of creativity and come up with a different reason for all the men to be celebrating in the first place. Really? Another wedding? Especially when the first movie ended with Stu’s character dating a completely different woman? But I digress. I also expected a different conflict, but instead they’re again searching for a lost member of their group. These are decisions that easily could have deviated from the first and still made sense under the title “Hangover”.
Umm, they could just take the same characters and write a new movie with them in it. Why does it have to be exactly the same? Maybe they could find Doug’s rich boss dead in his beach house and pretend he’s still alive while they party there. That sounds funny.
Sorry, I didn’t see your comment. I totally agree. I think it will still be funny but man is it similar.
People are offended by anything and everything nowadays. This does not surprise me in the least.
I find your generalization of people to be highly offensive, sir and/or madam!
hahahaha
You laugh at Quirky, Nicole? Shame on you, SHAME!!
I’m disgusted.
If no one complained, what’s the problem?
Nothing, other than it generates publicity for a film well in advance out of fear audiences will flock to the preview and then go online and tell their friends to skip it because it’s terrible.
ma lovey whoever has seen the first movie will go to see the second one no matter how much the trailer sucks…dude i haven’t even seen the trailer and don’t care to coz i’m watching the movie
who the hell is Kate Ward & what makes her a movie critic?
I’m more offended by Zach Galifianakis who plays the same character in every movie he’s in. Seriously, he’s like the fat Michael Cera.
Excellent
I’m offended by people who always complain when comedic actors always play roles as the same persona. Because movies audiences are so open and ready to seeing Adam Sandler, Jim Carrey, Ben Stiller, Zach Galifianakis, Will Ferrell, et al stretch as actors. Maybe if audiences didn’t just go to their comedies…
While I agree he isn’t the best actor…why try to ruin a good character…if your good at something capitalize it.
oh yeah lets quote The Joker “if you’re good at something never do ti for free” oh wait that doesn’t fit here but what the hell i love Zach just the way he acts and if i ever saw him in a Kings Speech type of shindig it would just be awkward coz i’d be laughing at everything he says due to the Hangover flashbacks
Not offended and I want to see more!!!!
THIS IS A PR MOVE, PEOPLE. Great publicity, that’s all. This just antes up the anticipation for something lurid and gets them free advertising all over the place. EW is probably complicit forchrissakes. They are totally playing us.
“What is this a P.F. Chang’s?” haha I’m not sure I want to see it though. I know Hollywood is all about the sequels but sometimes one really is enough
Publicity stunt.
And it’s working by the way.
I’ll guess I’ll see the trailer again once I’m sitting at the theatre watching Scream 4.
Like the original film This looks plain disgusting,
I rated the first one a low **1/2 . Part 2 looks like a * film.
Granted I do not like comedies expecially about drunk or stoned persons.
So you don’t like comedies about drunk or stoned “persons” but you went ahead and watched a movie called The Hangover? Makes sense….
Agreed, Zombie Jesus.
Because Zombie Jesus if he didn’t see it he wouldn’t have anything to complain about.
why would anyone care what rating you gave a film? you dont like comedies? sorry ill get off your lawn now.
What a great way to get free publicity for a movie! Now everyone will see the trailer as intended. Come on people
