The Royal Wedding is over! Is it safe to come out yet?

Don’t worry, folks, it’s almost at an end. After months of intensive hat speculation, commemorative plate production, cake experts, lip readers, total bludgeoning of the word “fairy-tale,” and Anglophilia bordering on Anglomania, we only have a few more days of stray headlines like “William and Kate’s Honeymoon Suite: Is There an Ice Machine?” and “What Dress Would Have Kate Worn in a Parallel Universe?” before we’re finally rid of this whole royally over-reported dealio.

I’ll admit, as an American male I have absolutely no idea what draws people to wake up at 4 a.m. to watch a rich guy and the girl he likes tie the knot. I mean, what did George Washington and Mel Gibson fight for if Americans are just going to end up fawning over the British monarchy and hand out a bunch of Oscars to The King’s Speech? The ceremony itself was lavish and pretty and occasionally sweet, but mostly twee and long. Even the people at the wedding were getting a little bored. Admittedly, the presence of a horse-drawn carriage and the two evil stepsisters from Cinderella did hint at those fairy-tale aspects everyone on morning television kept talking about, but it didn’t feel as once-in-a-lifetime as once every 20 minutes on Main Street, U.S.A. 'Smallville' recap: Gladiator Superman gets caught in Zod's game of thrones. Get to the wedding already!

“Dominion” – a Brave and the Bold team-up of Clark and Oliver set in the negative-land of The Phantom Zone — may have been one of my least favorite episodes of Smallville in awhile, though not for a lack of trying. In fact, from the super-stylized visuals to the overly intense acting, I got the sense that Tom Welling and company – under the direction of castmate Justin Hartley  – were trying very hard to make a whole lot from very little. Nonetheless, the sum total was as blah as the desaturated colors of Zod’s pocket dimension prison, and no amount of Spartacus-flavored blood spurting and tremulous, pensive acting could make me feel anything for it. I liked Lois’ Whitesnake pillow. But “Is This Love?” No. Kneel before Zod? Only as I collapsed from boredom and snored at his feet.

Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson: Are they the new Bill Pullman and Bill Paxton?

Admit it: You’re not entirely sure which one starred in The Pacifier. But no shame! It’s easy to confuse Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson — both are beefy, in body and at the box office. Both have starred in action franchises and cuddly family flicks. And both are starring in this weekend’s Fast Five. But how can that happen?! I’m not completely convinced that they’re not the same person. Come on, have we ever seen them in the same room together? Oh wait, we have? Okay, so they might be two entirely different human beings, but if nothing else, Johnson’s sneaky facial hair just proves that he’s bizarro Vin. But let’s see if you can tell them apart based on their career choices. Without cheating, see if you could name which one of the two actors starred in the following movies (Beware: I’ll sic the Scorpion King on anyone tempted to head to IMDb right now… ): READ FULL STORY »

Arnold Schwarzenegger talks about 'Cry Macho' in EW's exclusive interview

Filed under: Movies and tagged: ,

Four weeks ago, Entertainment Weekly spoke with Arnold Schwarzenegger in an exclusive cover story about his return to the world of showbiz after his two terms as governor of California. In the midst of that conversation, we asked him what his next project was likely to be — other than The Governator, the animated series he is making with famed comic book guru Stan Lee. His answer: Cry Macho, a project that cropped up again today in another report touting the film as his next project, with Brad Furman (The Lincoln Lawyer) reportedly attached to direct. Here’s what Schwarzenegger had to say about Cry Macho in EW’s April 8 cover storyREAD FULL STORY »

At the end of last night’s special episode of The Office, Michael Scott bolted for Boulder, but his farewell episode apparently left behind a small puzzler. While teasing the episode in an interview with EW, Office exec producer Greg Daniels noted: “A tiny mystery story — which I’m not sure anyone’s going to catch and will come out a few episodes from now — is being set up here.” And so we ask: What is that “tiny mystery” — a mysterwee, if you will? (And I understand if you won’t.) Let us consider five possibilities: READ FULL STORY »

Take that, American Idol! You might be the “largest venue for product placement,” according to Ad Age, but Bravo has been named the “highest-rated network for product placement effectiveness in broadcast,” according to Nielsen IAG. And the network is damn proud of this most recent achievement: “Bravo consistently delivers the most affluent, educated, and engaged audience in all of cable entertainment — which results in product placements resonating with fans and directly boosting viewer perceptions of the integrated brands,” the network said in a press release. And, lord, was this a surprise win: Who would have thunk that a network that features approximately 463,759 instances of product placement during a 60-minute episode of Top Chef would prove to be the most effective?! Law & Order: Criminal Intent begins its tenth and final season this Sunday with a double-blast of crazy. First, Vincent D’Onofrio returns as the adorably bananagrams Bobby Goren. But then, Goren and fellow returnee Eames investigate a murder in the world of high fashion. Jay Mohr plays the No. 1 suspect, a cocaine-’n-hooker loving train wreck specifically based by the producers on Charlie Sheen. Now, the show is a little bit hamstrung, since Sheen has already made moves to trademark his most memorable aphorisms, but with a little help from our handy online thesaurus, we’ve made 10 educated guesses about the best lines from the episode:

1.”We are high priests. We are papacy hitman wizards.”

2. “Duh, achieving!” READ FULL STORY »

Is Jimmy Iovine the new Simon on 'Idol'? Or does he just wish he is?

Last night’s American Idol debuted a new time-killer feature for results night: resident mentor and Interscope guru Jimmy Iovine’s reactions to Wednesday night’s performances by the Top 6. Awkwardly staged and set up, Jimmy’s thoughts on the weaknesses of the remaining Idol contestants were nonetheless spot-on and desperately needed after weeks of tepid-at-best comments coming from the judging panel. Check out these truth bombs Jimmy dropped on each of the contestants:  READ FULL STORY »

Is Kate Middleton's reception dress better than her wedding dress? Don't make me choose!

Kate-Middleton-dress

We’ve already pondered the perfection that is Kate Middleton’s wedding dress once today here on PopWatch. But, readers, take a look at the amazing photo before you now of The Duchess’s white satin reception dress. Does this not make your wedding-obsessed soul flutter as it did this morning when she stepped out of her car? To be honest, I gasped when I first saw this beautiful gown (which is reportedly a Sarah Burton — as was her first dress). In fact, dare I say, I like this one better? Between the cardigan, the sparkle, and the figure-flattering effect — ugh, I don’t know! Sleep deprivation is setting in, and that always makes decisions 10 times harder, especially with regard to fashion.

The only thing I am sure of? That a new bar has been set — not only for future royals but for brides in general. A recently-engaged friend of mine said to me shortly after instant messaging me this photo, “On my wedding day, I just wanna feel as pretty as she looked.” And isn’t that the truth?

I now pose the question to you: Which do you like better: The reception dress? Or the wedding dress? And are you sick of this stuff yet? (Impossible!)

(If not, join me for continued fawning on Twitter @EWSandraG.)

This week's trailers: 'Transformers 3,' 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows -- Part 2,' 'X-Men: First Class,' and more

Tagged:

Let’s cut to the chase: There’s a new trailer for the final Harry Potter movie, Deathly Hallows — Part 2, this week. Which means pretty much all of you are going to skip down to watch it and re-watch it over and over again until you’re dry-eyed and out of breath and pass out at your desk. In which case… nobody is actually reading this now. So I can use this space to write about pretty much anything I want. Like how I secretly really want to see African Cats this weekend. Or how I wish I were at home right now with a bottle of wine and an Extreme Couponing marathon. Doesn’t matter, right? But if you do make it past Potter, there are a lot of other great clips this week, too, like new looks at Transformers: Dark of the Moon, X-Men: First Class, and Bridesmaids, plus our first peek at the new Anna Faris comedy What’s Your Number? — and a whole lot more. So, to those of you still reading: Thanks. Also, what’s wrong with you? It’s THE LAST HARRY POTTER! READ FULL STORY »
