This Week's Covers: Arnold and Liz

What a week. An exclusive interview with Arnold Schwarzenegger. A tribute to Elizabeth Taylor. Both in the same issue. Which one do you put on the cover? Ultimately we decided to give you both — a “flip” cover with Arnold on the front and Liz on the back. In Benjamin Svetkey’s Arnold story (Arnold’s first major interview since leaving the governor’s office) the action hero-turned-politican announces his new Stan Lee animated series, The Governator (no, we’re not joking), and talks about his plan to return to movies. Click here for more details. Our Liz tribute celebrates the movies and crazy life of the legend, and includes personal remembrances about her from friends and colleagues like Debbie Reynolds (Liz stole her husband, but they later reconciled), Dr. Mathilde Krim (founding chairman of amfAR), and Al Jean, the executive producer of The Simpsons, which used Taylor’s voice for baby Maggie Simpson in 1992. Our critics Owen Gleiberman and Lisa Schwarzbaum also weigh in with her 10 must-see films. The issue is on stands Friday.

He’s been a famous body builder. He’s been a killer cyborg from the future. He’s been Governor of California. And now, in this week’s exclusive cover scoop, Arnold Schwarzenegger reveals his plans for the next phase of his extraordinary career: He’s going be a cartoon superhero, known as The Governator. “When I ran for governor back in 2003 and I started hearing people talking about ‘the Governator,’ I thought the word was so cool,” Schwarzenegger, 63, tells EW in his first press interview since leaving office last January. (Watch an EW-exclusive video of Schwarzenegger talking about the project.) “The word Governator combined two worlds: the world of politics and the movie world. And [this cartoon] brings everything together. It combines the governor, the Terminator, the bodybuilding world, the True Lies…”  READ FULL STORY »

Oprah's producers hoping to make over Donald Trump on one of O's final shows. What look should he go for?

trump-makeover

Donald Trump and his hair — two things as inseparable as peanut butter and jelly, like Richard Hatch and prison, or Rod Blagojevich and goldenrod balloons. But will the real estate mogul and reality star soon part ways with his most famous attribute? The New York Post‘s Page Six reported earlier today that Oprah Winfrey’s producers are hoping to score Donald Trump for one of the talk show host’s final shows — in order for her to make him over. Harpo confirmed the rumor to EW, saying, “Our producers reached out to Mr. Trump to invite him on one of our final 20 episodes. We hope he’ll accept our invitation.”

I’ll say! Though Trump’s reps have yet to respond to EW’s request for comment, here’s hoping he agrees to play along. READ FULL STORY »

Paris Hilton speaks: What are the things no celebrity should say?

Promoting her new shoe line in Mexico, Paris Hilton gave an interview to the Associated Press in which she said at least two of the things we commoners never want to hear a celebrity say:

1. “There’s so many people out there who try to imitate what I do but I am the original. There is nothing like me.” (A little bit of fake modesty, even while pretending Kim Kardashian hasn’t eclipsed you, would go a long way.)  READ FULL STORY »

Winter is coming... and so is the 'Game of Thrones' food truck!

How do you get hordes of geeks to leave their nice, warm nerd-caves and venture into the harsh light of day? By tempting them with free food themed around HBO’s upcoming epic series Game of Thrones, of course. All this week, the Game of Thrones food truck is roaming the streets of New York, offering fairly elaborate dishes inspired by different regions in the realm of Westeros: King’s Landing, the Riverlands, The Wall, the Free City of Pentos, and Winterfell. The truck will be serving the same Tom Colicchio-designed menu in Los Angeles next week as well. (Each day, HBO’s also posting a video of Colicchio describing what’ll be served that evening; check out the clip embedded below to find out which region’s being featured tonight.) READ FULL STORY »

Elton John's 'Saturday Night Live' promos: He's a talented (son of a) bitch

Filed under: Television, TV and tagged: ,

Can you feel the love for Elton John this week? You’ll have to — the musician is popping up here, there, and everywhere! (He’s like Sergio.) Not only are the American Idol contestants using Elton John’s songbook tonight, but the singer will serve as the host and musical guest of this week’s Saturday Night Live. So will Saturday night be alright for fighting? Based on the promos, it will be alright for plenty of Benny Hill-esque chasing. Oh, the British! Click the jump to see John’s promos. Woo-ee-oo, he looks just like Buddy Holly! READ FULL STORY »

Right now, movie theater owners from across the country are gathering in Las Vegas for CinemaCon, the exhibition industry’s annual convention, to get an early peek at some of the big blockbusters that will soon be luring audiences into their theaters in droves. Or so they hope. The fact is, underneath all the rah-rah presentations, the mood can’t be too chipper. It’s been a bloodbath at the box office lately. READ FULL STORY »

'Dead Space 2' has left me emotionally brutalized. What horror videogame scared you the most?

When I was a kid, scary movies left me trembling in fear.  After I saw Friday the 13th Part VI, I refused to go into any forests. After I saw Jaws, I refused to step foot in the ocean, and would also avoid the deep end of any pools. After I saw the TV miniseries It, I tried refusing to take any showers, but my horrible parents wouldn’t listen to my cries of terror, so instead I just lived in perpetual fear of seeing Tim Curry’s terrifying clown-face emerging out of our shower drain. (I’m really lucky I didn’t watch Nightmare on Elm Street until I was a teenager, or I would have probably feared sleeping.) READ FULL STORY »

Wonder Woman's new costume: Better with red boots? Or still needs more improvement?

Reactions were mixed when NBC released an early photo of Wonder Woman star Adrienne Palicki in a shiny, shiny costume that, among other things, flaunted decades of tradition by ditching the superheroine’s iconic red boots. Now, based on some photos taken of Palicki on the set, it looks like the costume designers have tweaked the outfit a little bit. The blue pants are no longer made of a shiny fabric; instead, they’re a darker shade of blue. (And now that we can clearly see the gold stars running up the side, the pants look sort of like they’re from an old-timey military outfit.) Even more intriguingly, the blue high-heeled boots have been replaced by vintage red flats. Some intriguing changes…but do you support the alterations? Think the new outfit is better than the original one, or worse? Check out the two costumes side by side, and vote in our costume poll below: READ FULL STORY »

'American Idol': What should the Top 11 sing for Elton John week? What should they avoid?

On the one hand, if American Idol has any hope of matching the crazy musical goodness of last week’s Motown performance show, going with the Elton John catalog is a pretty safe bet. On the other hand, the last time Idol dedicated an episode to the music of Elton John, way back in Season 3, it was pretty much all kinds of a mess — the man’s melodies are simply really challenging to pull off. Two contestants will be eliminated this week, too, so song choice will be crucial for the Top 11 Take 2′s chances to move forward, especially with the frontrunner status still so wildly in flux. Fortunately, we’ve come up with song suggestions for each contestant, as well as suggestions for songs the kids should likely avoid. (We’re looking at you, Casey: No. Growling. Allowed.) Here’s our list:  READ FULL STORY »
