Colin Firth surprises Ellen DeGeneres -- and puts underwear on his Oscar: Watch!

Colin Firth, who won the Best Actor Oscar for The King’s Speech, made a pit stop on his way to the airport Monday and surprised Ellen DeGeneres during her morning meeting. Watch the segment below, which airs on today’s show. You may recall that DeGeneres gave him a pair of formal underwear (think tuxedo design with carefully placed fringe) during a Valentine’s Day appearance on her show for him to wear to the Oscars. (She also gave him a pair in 2006 when he recounted a mortifying story about having to be rescued by his neighbors when all he was wearing was underwear and slippers.) He said he would have worn them, but they shrank in the wash. Fortunately, they were now small enough to fit his Oscar. DeGeneres couldn’t let him leave without announcing his arrival to the Warner Bros. lot with a megaphone.

Congratulations, Colin. You have now earned your own category on PopWatch. Popping by to thank us sometime might be nice. More than nice.

Charlie Sheen to Howard Stern: 'People would revolt' if John Stamos replaced him

sheen-sternImage Credit: Albert L. Ortega/PR Photos; Sylvain Gaboury/PR PhotosCharlie Sheen took his “movement” to The Howard Stern Show this morning, and, sure enough, he peppered their conversation with the bizarre Sheenisms that are probably at this moment being ironed on thousands of poorly-manufactured ironic t-shirts. He referred to women who have sold their intimate Sheen stories to the press as “retarded zombies,” and coined the sure-to-be-a-winning campaign slogan, “Hope is for suckers and tools.” But his tiger blood seemed calm when Stern asked him about the rumor that John Stamos might be called upon to fill Sheen’s shoes on Two and a Half Men. (For the record, insiders are denying the rumor.) “Would you be mad if Stamos replaced you?” asked Stern. “No, it’s not his fault,” Sheen replied. “He can’t replace you, you say?” Stern provoked. “I don’t know, I think the people would revolt.” Watch a clip from Howard TV On Demand below: READ FULL STORY »

William Shatner talks 'Pioneers of Television,' 'Twilight Zone,' and Twitter

Tags: , TV

William-Shatner-Twilight-ZoneImage Credit: Everett CollectionBefore Star Trek, William Shatner did everything. A peek at his IMDB page reveals a relentless array of guest-starring appearances, minor roles in major movies, major roles in TV movies — really, any role the young actor could get his hands on. It makes him an ideal subject for the PBS series Pioneers of Television, which looks back on the early days of TV and the people who were there. Season 2 of Pioneers hits DVD today, split into four episodes: Westerns, Science Fiction, Crime Dramas, and Local Kids’ TV. (Shatner, of course, did them all.) EW caught up with the iconic star — currently starring in CBS’s $#*! My Dad Says — to talk about working in the Golden Age, with a special focus one of his most famous pre-Star Trek roles: the extremely anxious flyer besieged by a gremlin in the classic Twilight Zone episode, “Nightmare at 20,000 Feet,” written by sci-fi icon Richard Matheson. Which Chelsea Handler stories should be turned into episodes of 'Vodka'?

Chelsea-HandlerImage Credit: Brandon Hickman/E!Just one thing concerns me about the upcoming NBC series based on Chelsea Handler’s best book to date, 2008′s Are You There, Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea: I’m worried that the focus group-approved Chelsea will turn out to be a perky, hysterical, and rom-com-y character, instead of the awesomely mean, promiscuous, and lazy Handler we get from the books. I remain cautiously optimistic, though, since Handler will executive produce the show — and because her books are so freaking funny. So, as a Handler fan, I give you a few deliciously mean and hysterical chapters from Vodka that I really, really hope the show covers: READ FULL STORY »

Jane Russell: A tribute to the sultry silver-screen siren

Jane-RussellImage Credit: John Kobal Foundation/Getty ImagesJane Russell, the Hollywood silver-screen siren who ignited a tinder box with Howard Hughes’ bosom-heaving 1943 western The Outlaw, died on Monday at age 89. But the legacy she leaves behind will always be more than just the sum of her ample parts. The raven-haired beauty was only 19 and working as a receptionist in a doctor’s office when the notorious ladies’ man Hughes spotted her and cast her as Rio MacDonald, the smoldering girlfriend of Sheriff Pat Garrett, in The Outlaw. Overnight, she was catapulted from obscurity to infamy, thanks to the movie’s poster, which featured Russell reclining suggestively on a haystack, holding a pistol in one hand and implying a world of sin with her curves. Censors went apoplectic and the Roman Catholic Church protested the film, but it was too late — a star was born. READ FULL STORY »

'Castle': Was last night the best Castle/Beckett moment yet? (Yes, better than the kiss!)

castleLeo and Kate are no longer the king and queen of the frozen declaration of love. Now, if you’re getting technical, Beckett and Castle didn’t talk about how much they love each other last night (and, yes, they do) when they were stuck in a freezer storage unit where they were trapped at the end of last episode by some men who were trying to set off a dirty bomb in New York City. But as they sat there with icicles on their eyelashes, shivering in each other’s arms after having exhausted all means of escape (gun=futile) … be still my ‘shippy heart. Read for yourself.

BECKETT: Castle? You there?
CASTLE: Yeah. Oh, yeah. I’m — I’m right here. READ FULL STORY »

'How I Met Your Mother': Who thought that scene was real -- and who is completely devastated that it wasn't? Be honest.

Neil-Patrick-HarrisImage Credit: Cliff Lipson/CBS*Raises hand reluctantly*

Maybe it was the way Nora had nursed Barney back to  health (complete with a violin lullaby!). Maybe it was the earnest and tender way Barney said “Thanks” to Nora at the restaurant after she gave her condolences for Marshall’s loss. Or maybe it was music playing in the background of what I will always refer to as “the scene.” But I thought it was real. I thought that after many seasons of waiting for Barney to get to the right place mentally, he was ready to grow up, ready to get out of the playboy game, fall into adulthood – fall in love. But no. 'RuPaul's Drag Race': The queens confuse couture with shoulder flair

The most hilarious things transpire on fashion-centric reality shows when the word “couture” enters the competitive mix. The main challenge on night’s edition of RuPaul’s Drag Race is the perfect example of the craziness the word inspires: The queens were solicited to create a couture, one-of-a-kind runway look based on one of eight different cakes, including pineapple upside down cake, chocolate lava cake, princess cake, and so on. Truly, it’s a genius test, seeing as how ridiculously over-the-top pastries should provide the ample inspiration for just as over-the-top — and thus couture — fashions on the runway.

Alas, the queens confused the concept of couture with building a dress (or in the case of Stacy Layne Matthews, an ill-fitting pantsuit concoction?) that featured oversize shoulder flair. Just look at the screen grabs above for the evidence, with Stacy Layne Matthews, Carmen Carrera, and Shangela all adorning their shoulders with something big and ridiculous. Have you ever seen such divine couture in your life? Not.

Chris Harrison blogs 'The Bachelor' episode 9

chris-bachelor-padIt’s been a long road, and the end is in sight for Brad and three lucky ladies. After an incredible week of hometowns and a very emotional rose ceremony, Brad told the women about our next stop, the beautiful country of South Africa, home of the 2010 World Cup (as a soccer fan, this is a huge deal). Emily, Ashley, and Chantal were extremely excited. Every week they tried to guess where we were going next, and none of them ever guessed that Brad would take them halfway around the world. We’ve traveled all over the world, but there are very few places that take longer to get to than South Africa. But after over 20 hours in the air, we arrived at Kruger Mpumpalanga International Airport, and let me tell you, from the moment we landed, it was worth every second. Lush rolling hills, friendly people, and the promise of the most anticipated dates of every season of The Bachelor, the overnight dates. READ FULL STORY »
