'True Blood' poster for PaleyFest: Pretty bloody cool. Who's going?

Categories: Television, True Blood

Admittedly, this poster would be way cooler with a naked vampire on it, but I understand the concept of decency standards. So keeping those old things in mind, this poster promoting the True Blood‘s panel at PaleyFest is pretty awesome. Truth be told, it took me several glances to notice the vampire profile in the blood. Then, suddenly, it blew my mind and made me wonder if that’s supposed to be Eric or Bill. (See a larger version here.)

This is where I segue into telling you that EW will be out there at PaleyFest covering all the fun, starting tonight with The Walking Dead panel. Like how smooth that transition was? It really speaks to how smooth I am in real life (=not at all).

But while we’re on the subject, I should mentioned that I’ll be leaving my NYC cave, where I attempt daily to obtain my vitamin D from the glow of a television, and head to L.A. for a few panels myself, namely the Freaks and Geeks and Undeclared reunion through Glee. So send questions via Twitter (@EWSandraG) or in comments. Panels kick off tonight with The Walking Dead. Full schedule here: READ FULL STORY »

Mike Huckabee blasts Natalie Portman for pregnancy out of wedlock, National Organization for Women tells EW he's 'offensively disrespectful'

portman-HuckabeeImage Credit: Andrew Evans/PR Photos; David Livingston/Getty ImagesLess than a week after her Best Actress win at the Oscars, Natalie Portman has been criticized by former Arkansas governor (and potential presidential candidate) Mike Huckabee for helping to “glorify and glamorize” the idea of children born out of wedlock. “People see a Natalie Portman or some other Hollywood starlet who boasts of, ‘Hey look, you know, we’re having children, we’re not married… and they’re doing just fine,” said Huckabee during a Feb. 28 radio interview on The Michael Medved Show (which is just making the rounds now), according to a transcript posted on Media Matters. Jerry Seinfeld recalls the days when Jay Leno was a comedian

Jerry Seinfeld popped in on Jay Leno last night, and he treated the audience to four minutes of stand-up before sitting down with the host. I prefer my Seinfeld long-form, when he can really get going and the jokes build exponentially as he weaves and connects subjects you’ve never heard linked the same way before. But I’ll take my Sein any way I can, though I actually thought he was better once he sat down with Jay. The two men clearly have a rapport — only Seinfeld could have said, “Remember when Jay used to do this, when he was a comedian?” without any malicious intent. What did you think of his guest appearance? Does he still have it? READ FULL STORY »

Miley Cyrus talks 'SNL,' Vanessa Bayer, and mustaches with Jimmy Fallon

Miley CyrusMiley Cyrus is more than a singer/actress/provocateur — she’s also, oddly enough, a mustache enthusiast. Last night, she stopped by Late Night with Jimmy Fallon to chat about her upcoming SNL hosting gig, the weirdness of meeting Miley impersonator extraordinaire Vanessa Bayer — “I said, ‘You play me on TV!’ And she said, ‘Yeah, I do.’ And I was like, ‘Oh, well that’s pretty cool.’ And she goes, ‘What?’ And I was like, ‘Oh my God, I sound like you doing me!’” — and her love of upper-lip hair. The girl wears a diamond mustache necklace, people! This strikes me as much weirder behavior for an 18-year-old than letting herself be filmed smoking from a bong… but I guess she’s just being Miley.

Watch the interview for yourself below, then tell us: Are you pumped for Miley to take Manhattan on Saturday night? Do you think she came across well in her Late Night appearance? And if forced to decide, do you prefer a handlebar, a walrus, or a Fu Manchu? READ FULL STORY »

'Harry Potter' set tour open to muggles in 2012

Dumbledore-officeImage Credit: Kevin KolczynskiPerhaps this will pacify Brits who were upset that The Wizarding World of Harry Potter landed in Orlando. Starting in Spring 2012, London will be home to a three-hour walking tour of sets (as well as costumes, animatronics, props and effects) used in the filming of the eight Harry Potter films. Tickets for the “Warner Bros. Studio Tour London — The Making of Harry Potter” at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, the production home of Harry Potter for over a decade, will go on sale later this year. Check out www.wbstudiotour.co.uk for updates. The Great Hall and Dumbledore’s office will definitely be included on the tour, with many more sets still to be announced. What are your must-haves? Is it weird that the first thing that came to my mind was the prefects’ bathroom?

'American Idol': Six on-the-scene observations from the Top 13 live results show

american-idolImage Credit: Frank Micelotta/Fox/PictureGroupNothing can probably prepare one for the overwhelming nature of entering the Idoldome for the first time: It’s colossal, run by what seems like the Kremlin guard, and there’s a distinct crackle in the air. After years of watching on TV, last night was my first visit to the venue and live show, and I quickly realized that the atmosphere’s usual electricity was no doubt bolstered by the fact that what I had stepped into the first live results show of a rather energized season. Actually, to be even more specific, last night was the first live show of the season period, since both the Top 12 boys and Top 12 girls episodes were pretaped last Friday and Monday. Things felt heady and bubbly from the get-go.

The night’s already-auspicious vibe was compounded by the fact that, walking in, everyone in that audience — as well as the contestants, judges, and Ryan Seacrest — understood what had to happen by the end of the two-hour taping: Nine Idol hopefuls were going to be sent home. (Well, at the beginning, no one knew exactly how many would go home, but everyone knew several were going to be sent packing.) Considering that looming bloodbath, though, the activities of the evening managed to be buoyant and amped up, Idol-style. That is, until the heads started to roll just minutes into the taping. Update: Annie’s recap is live!

Now that the Top 12 Guys and Top 12 Girls have taken the new space-agey stage, it’s time to wait two filler-ific hours to find out who America voted into the Top 10 and which hopefuls get to stick around in la-la-land as the judges’ Wild Card picks.

Ooh, and check me out on the debut of MTV.com’s Idol Party Live right after Idol ends. Host “Jamba Jim” Cantiello (who does MTV’s recaps) and I are on very little sleep, so it could be hilarious, a disaster, or both. Where’s my sex god Casey Abrams to put a “look alive” spell on me when I need him? Where is he? Oh, there he is.

SPOILER ALERT! Check out the complete list of the Idol contestants who made it through tonight’s mega-elimination, including America’s top ten and the judges’ Wild Card picks, after the jump. (Don’t click through if you don’t want to know…) READ FULL STORY »

Catherine Hardwicke on leaving 'Twilight': 'I do not regret it at all, thank the Lord'

stewart-pattinsonDirector Catherine Hardwicke, who launched the Twilight series into theaters and has the similarly thematic Red Riding Hood coming out March 11, tells Newsweek that she wasn’t fired from the blockbuster series but simply decided against directing subsequent Twilight films. “I couldn’t even be fired, that’s what’s so funny,” she tells the magazine. “In my contract, I had the first right of refusal.” READ FULL STORY »

The 10 'Star Wars' scenes that should rule the galaxy in 3-D

Categories: Sci-Fi, Star Wars

empire-asteroid-fieldImage Credit: TM Lucasfilm, LtdBefore the first chapter of George Lucas’ space opera returns to theaters in three-dimension form next Feb. 10, old-school movie theater marquees across the country will need to be structurally reinforced. Just think of the sheer weight of the lettering required for Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace in 3-D!

I appreciate that the soundness of movie marquees is not the primary concern for some skeptical Star Wars fans who harrumph at the 3-D conversion of the two iconic trilogies. It all depends on the quality of 3-D conversion, of course, but I choose to be optimistic and trust that if there’s one thing George Lucas knows and knows well, it’s cinematic technology. No chance he gives us a 3-D transfer as poor as Clash of the Titans, right? (Right?) In the thirteen-plus hours of the far-far-away science-fiction adventure, beginning on Naboo and ending on Endor, there are more than a few scenes that will get this Gen-Xer back in the theater to experience the Force anew. My Top 10 Star Wars scenes ripe for 3-D: READ FULL STORY »

'Hunger Games' casting: Who should play Katniss? (I've got a suggestion...)

Categories: Books, Casting, Movies

Hunger-GamesImage Credit: Bob Charlotte/PR PhotosAs EW exclusively reported earlier today, there may not be any one frontrunner for the role of Katniss Everdeen in the upcoming Hunger Games movie, but there are many, many, many names in contention. Essentially every young actress in Hollywood — both actual teenagers and lovely young woman who can still pass for teenagers — are competing to play the lead role in the Suzanne Collins adaptation. All of the names are impressive, and it’s easy to see how any of the actresses in contention could put their own intriguing spin on the role. Tell us your pick in the poll after the jump. Personally, I already know who my number one pick is: Hailee Steinfeld, star of True Grit. READ FULL STORY »
