'Tomb Raider': Who should be the new Lara Croft?

kunis-arterton-wildeImage Credit: Chris Hatcher/PR Photos; Solarpix/PR Photos; Peter Kramer/AP ImagesIt’s easy to be cynical about the just-announced reboot of the Tomb Raider film franchise. Angelina Jolie’s turn as skimpily-dressed treasure hunter Lara Croft was incredibly iconic — it’s a big reason why she’s basically the only go-to action heroine left in Hollywood — and it’s hard to imagine a younger actress stepping into the role. Still, it’s worth pointing out that neither of the original Lara Croft films were all that great. And considering that, Sucker Punch excepted, female-driven action movies are few and far between, a Tomb Raider reboot could actually be a great way to kickstart the career of the next great female action star. But who should play Lara Croft? Mila Kunis seems like an obvious choice. (She even played a younger Jolie in Gia.) Olivia Wilde and Scarlett Johansson have both had some action-film success. My personal pick would be Gemma Arterton — hey, why not cast someone who’s actually British this time? Vote for the next Lara Croft in our poll after the jump, and let us know in the comment boards if we missed your personal pick. READ FULL STORY »

'Idols' online: Where to find the Top 13 on Twitter, Facebook, and Myspace

idol-13Image Credit: Michael Becker/FoxGet ready, America: Thirteen photogenic songbirds are now poised to take over the Internet. Yes, that’s right — American Idol has launched official Twitter, Facebook, and Myspace accounts for each of its finalists. Though the Myspace pages are currently all but empty — chances are that’ll change after audio from tomorrow’s live show gets posted — and their Facebook pages are also, generally speaking, fairly bare, most members of the top 13 are already tweeting up a storm. Here’s a rundown of where to find each of the finalists online, how popular each of their sites is so far, and what you can expect from each singer’s Twitter stream. READ FULL STORY »

'Drop Dead Diva' promo: Yay, summer TV!

Maybe it’s because most of my regular shows are in repeats this month or there’s new scoop about season 4 of True Blood, but I’m starting to look forward to summer TV. Lifetime is, too, with a new promo for Drop Dead Diva‘s third season, which premieres in June. Watch it here. There’s no new footage, it’s just a nice recap of season 2 for those who missed it and a reminder of how much blood Grayson (Jackson Hurst) lost at the end of the season 2 finale for those who were too busy screaming at their TVs to fully notice.  READ FULL STORY »

Woody Allen readying Rome with a view, but what about Vicky Cristina Cleveland?

Categories: Movies

Woody-AllenImage Credit: Munawar Hosain/Fotos International/Getty ImagesAfter a very brief return to New York City for 2009′s Whatever Works, Woody Allen has resumed his romance with the great cities of Europe. Midnight in Paris will premiere this May at Cannes, and he recently announced plans to shoot his next film in Rome. “It’s fantastic to have the possibility to work there,” Allen told the Italian newspaper, La Repubblica, “like when I shot Manhattan in New York, Match Point in London, and Vicky Cristina Barcelona in Barcelona. Each time, it’s like a declaration of love for certain places. I project onto the big screen my feelings for places which count a lot in my life.”

It’s also where the money is. READ FULL STORY »

'The Event' returns: Is this the most overqualified cast on television?

Categories: Made Us Think, The Event

the-eventImage Credit: Mike Ansell/NBCThe Event returned to NBC last night after three months in dry dock. Plotwise, the show is still a bit of a muddle. The aliens’ motivations are still impenetrably vague — we know where they’re from now, but precisely what they want is still a mystery. (At one point, someone actually said, “I will answer all the questions that you have. BUT FIRST…” Argh, my brain!) Sean and Leila are still on a neverending road trip across America, in search of … something. It’s all a bit wearisome, but The Event is still worth watching, just because the cast is so talented. Last night’s episode added two more accomplished actors into the mix — Roger Bart as the President’s Chief of Staff, and Virgina Madsen as a vaguely Palin-esque Alaskan senator. Considering that The Event already features a nonstop parade of great acting, it’s worth asking: Is this the most overqualified cast on television? READ FULL STORY »

Stephen Colbert uses 'Star Wars' to blast Mike Huckabee, puts him on notice

Stephen Colbert had harsh words for Friend of The Colbert Report Mike Huckabee on last night’s show. To begin with, he took offense to Huckabee using Oscar winner Natalie Portman as an example of someone glorifying having children out of wedlock. “Look, I’m no fan of single mothers either. But it’s Natalie Portman we’re talking about. That kid she’s pregnant with is Luke Skywalker,” Colbert said, mouthing think, think. “So logically, if you’re against her pregnancy that means you’ve aligned yourself politically with Emperor Palpatine. You’re alienating all of Tatooine. It’s a swing planet.” Watch the clip below. READ FULL STORY »

Jason Bateman and David Koechner break bread in new Denny's ad

It’s true, what David Koechner says about Jason Bateman in the opening moments of their yummy commercial for Denny’s restaurants: “When I see you, I see a warmth and an intelligence that makes me want more.” The four-minute clip bottles the Bateman that so charmed audiences on Arrested Development, put-upon and slightly condescending, yet inordinately patient. It’s the first of several “Always Open” ads for the diner-restaurant that Bateman and Will Arnett’s company are planning (they also produced ads last year for Orbit Gum), and Koechner (Anchorman, The Office) is the perfect foil for Bateman’s cutting wit and proper bearing. By the end, Koechner literally has Bateman eating out of his hand. Check it out: READ FULL STORY »

'RuPaul's Drag Race': All hail Shangela Laquifa Wadley, queen of comedy!

Shangela-Drag-raceWhen RuPaul brought last season’s first cast-off, Shangela Laquifa Wadley, back into the Drag Race fold in this season’s premiere episode, no one, least of all me, had too high of hopes for the queen. There was a collective “why” from the Drag Race-watching community. We’d seen the woefully under-prepared Shangela peter out and generally be annoying last season — and as I just mentioned, she managed to squash any goodwill she had in just one measly episode.

But somewhere during the current season, surprisingly, Shangela turned into a drag force to be reckoned with. That infectiousness was no more on display than in last night’s latest episode of Drag Race, which challenged our gals on the go to put together a stand-up act in front of a live studio audience, as well as the regular judges, longtime funnylady Rita Rudner, and Chelsea Lately comedian Arden Myrin.

Chris Harrison blogs 'The Bachelor: The Women Tell All'

chris-bachelor-padTo be honest this week I don’t have a whole lot of dirt for you: The name of the show — The Women Tell All — really speaks for itself. Obviously, we don’t leave any of the good stuff out. My interview with Brad where we go over the season and talk about the unseen moments is always a fun night for all of us. We shoot it at the Bachelor house a few weeks before the Tell All special. It’s fun because it’s a relaxed, laid back, pressure-free atmosphere with just a few of us at the house, so we all share some good stories and have some laughs. I think this is where you see the “real” Brad. This is the guy I see all the time, and wish you got to see more of this season. READ FULL STORY »
