'RuPaul's Drag Race': Preview tonight's patriotic PSAs from the queens -- EXCLUSIVE VIDEO

drag-race

On tonight’s episode of reality delight RuPaul’s Drag Race, the queens will be supporting the troops during the main challenge by each filming a PSA. EW has obtained an exclusive video previewing the PSAs, which as you might guess are rather hilarious. “This is the only land,” screeches Alexis Mateo, “where you can grow up and become whatever you want to be!” Raja adds: “America: Where the son of immigrants can wear her freedom…proudly.” And the always-nutty Yara Sofia weighs in at one point with a twist on RuPaul’s classic episode-ending line: “If you don’t love America, how the hell you gonna love yourself?” Halle-lou!

And speaking of halle-lou, to explain what’s going on with this PSA video and challenge, we rung up front-running queen Shangela to give us the behind-the-scenes dish. Here’s what the mouthy queen had to say: READ FULL STORY »

'Freaks & Geeks' and 'Undeclared': Where would the characters be now? Plus, the best moments from the shows' PaleyFest reunion

Freaks-Undeclared

Watching the casts of two of the greatest gone-before-their-time shows to ever exist walk the red carpet last night at PaleyFest’s Freaks and Geeks/Undeclared reunion, it was hard not to notice how everyone had changed (or, if you’re Samm Levine, haven’t changed). This made me wonder: Where would all the characters be if we met up with them ten years later? So because I’m geek, I asked some of the stars. READ FULL STORY »

'Red Riding Hood': How is it like 'Twilight'? Let us count the ways.

Red Hiding Hood (in theaters now), is an updated fairy tale about a young woman named Valerie (Amanda Seyfried) who is caught between two suitors — idealistic Henry (Max Irons) and bad-boy Peter (Shiloh Fernandez) — in a town besieged by a blood-thirsty werewolf. It doesn’t have a single vampire. There’s no high-school-is-hell subplot. And Hood is set in an old-timey village that looks like it was probably fossil-fodder by the time Twilight‘s Bella (Kristen Stewart) was born. And yet, it’s hard to watch Red Riding Hood without having an odd feeling of Twilight déjà vu. Can’t put your finger on the cause? Let’s break down the similarities: READ FULL STORY »

Jon Stewart is somewhere probably STILL raving about 'The Book of Mormon'

Watching Jon Stewart rave about The Book of Mormon, the new Broadway musical from South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, last night for a solid seven minutes, I realized that in an instance like this, his opinion actually carries as much weight with me as any theater critic’s will — if not more. That said, I was always going to go see The Book of Mormon, but now, if it doesn’t live up to my expectations, I will be disappointed in him as well. Watch the fawning interview below.  READ FULL STORY »

Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark has set a new date to turn its lights back on: The troubled Broadway musical announced today that it will officially open June 14. But bad news for those who hoped to see the show this spring — performances scheduled between April 19 and May 11 have been canceled in order for the musical to rehearse the $65 million show’s revisions, which will be implemented with the help of The Boy From Oz director Philip William McKinley and Spider-Man comic book writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. (Director Julie Taymor is no longer in charge of day-to-day directorial duties; Bono and The Edge also plan on writing additional songs to the show.) Previews for the show will resume May 12 at Broadway’s Foxwoods Theatre.

New 'Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars' ad is a gas... and then some -- EXCLUSIVE VIDEO

In my household, the release of a new Lego videogame is a certifable entertainment event. And since my household is a Star Wars loving household, the release of a new Lego Star Wars videogame is a major entertainment event, one capable of eliciting a certain kind of involuntary physical response that is depicted in this new commercial for Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars, inspired by the first two seasons of the hit animated series on Cartoon Network. The spot (which hits airwaves tomorrow) is part of LucasArts’ big marketing push for the game (which is due in stores March 22). I will say nothing more, lest I spoil its humor, except to say that it does answer a question I’ve long had about the functionality of stormtrooper/clonetrooper armor.  READ FULL STORY »

It finally happened this week: Ending speculation that Julie Taymor would be booted off Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark, producers announced on Tuesday that she’s being relieved of her day-to-day directorial duties on the troubled musical. They also revealed that Bono and The Edge are penning new songs, The Boy From Oz director Philip William McKinley is joining the creative team, and Spider-Man comic book writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa will retool the book. As expected, the play won’t make its scheduled March 15 opening, which will be rescheduled for early summer.

In non-Spidey news, The Big Bang Theory’s Jim Parsons and Pushing Daisies’ Lee Pace joined the cast of The Normal Heart. (The show sill mark the first time on Broadway for both actors). READ FULL STORY »

This week's trailers: 'Super 8,' 'Cars 2,' and 'Fast Five'

Categories: Movie Trailers, Movies

This week’s clips crash and burn — in the best possible sense. First, a train wreck sets off a mysterious chain of events (involving some kind of monster, perhaps?) in the newest trailer for J.J. Abrams’ much-hyped Super 8. Then we’ve got plenty of burnt rubber in new spots for Cars 2 and Vin Diesel’s Fast Five, while a tragic car crash sends Robert Pattinson packing for the circus in the international trailer for Water for Elephants, co-starring Reese Witherspoon. So buckle your seatbelts and click onwards! READ FULL STORY »

Steven Soderbergh talks retirement from directing: 'I want a change.'

Is Steven Soderbergh done with directing? Matt Damon seems to think so, and the filmmaker himself admitted that he was “exhausted” on Rich Eisen’s NFL podcast back in January. Now, in an interview with Kurt Anderson for Studio 360, Soderbergh talks at length about his plans to move on from filmmaking (admittedly, only after he wraps up work on his next four films). Says the director, “You know when you see one of those athletes hang on two seasons too long? It’s kind of sad, because then your last image of them isn’t when they were great…I mean, why not go out with Abbey Road?” READ FULL STORY »

Lunchtime Poll: Which insane male fantasy in 'Sucker Punch' are you most excited about? Dragons? Samurai? Chicks with guns?

Zack Snyder’s next movie is titled Sucker Punch, but it might as well be called Adolescent Male Fantasy: The Movie Musical in 3-D on Steroids, Exclamation Point!!!. Trailers for the film overflow in insane, mega-testeronized imagery plucked from every awesome era of human history — trench warfare, magical swords, steampunk robots, samurai demons, ill-fated zeppelins, and the youth-ending vision of adorable High School Musical moppet Vanessa Hudgens firing a mini-gun out of a WWII-era bomber at a fire-breathing dragon (while wearing what appears to be Psylocke’s skin-baring ’90s costume). Four new international trailers don’t really add much to the mix besides some euro-techno, but they did us Pollsters to start thinking: Which of Sucker Punch‘s many, many ludicrous images are you most excited about? Take the latest Lunchtime Poll after the jump… READ FULL STORY »
