You may now breathe a ssssigh of relief. After escaping from a cage at the Bronx Zoo last week and going MIA, a venomous 24-inch Egyptian Cobra was found on Thursday by zoo staffers. Was it captured while slithering its way through Central Park? Catching a Knicks game at Madison Square Garden? Enjoying a quiet dinner at an Italian bistro in the Village? Nope. She was just coiled up in a dark corner of the reptile house, a mere 200 feet from her cage, and is now “resting comfortably and secure,” according to zoo officials. (Cue the singer from Survivor: The search is over/you were with me all the while…)
It’s been a fangtastic week for the BZC, who quickly became America’s deadly darling as she did everything from staying out of sight to keeping a low profile. One sneaky soul set up a Twitter account @BronxZoosCobra, which detailed BZC’s supposed adventures throughout New York City (“Does anyone know if the Whole Foods in Columbus Circle sells organic mice?”), attracting more than 200,000 followers in the process. Last night on Conan, she sat in with the band after apparently taking out the keyboardist. Perhaps not shockingly, there’s also a Facebook campaign for our dear cobra to host Saturday Night Live. Now I wait for the underwhelming animated reenactment of the event, and lack of a bidding war for the movie rights. What about you, PopWatchers? Are you once smitten, twice shy? Or are you already looking forward to next week’s adorable animal adventure?

As long as it’s safe, that’s all that matters.
As long as everyone’s safe, that’s all that matters! Yes, including Miss Slither.
I can finally go outside again!
Horray! Im happy that neither she nor anyone was hurt.
At least Kitchi is still free!
Glad no one got bit, but I’m super sad that the twitter adventure is over
#SnakeOnTheTown4e
Please, enough with the snake jokes.
Samuel L. Jackson will want to star in this movie!
will bronxcobra retire?
i LOLed at “The search is over/you were with me all the while…”
I want more! This was the funniest thing to read about throughout this week and hope that we get to hear more about the adventures of BZC. Keep em’ coming!
I want to see the continuing adventures of “Miss Hiss” to be tweeted and maybe a mock campaign to let all Egyptian’s (Including Cobras)to be FREE!Bronx zoo should use these for snake awarness..and fundraising perhaps!…O;)
Agreed, they could potentially raise a lot of money from this for the zoo.
What a happy ending!
In related news, the Corba remains at large.
I’m so happy the snake is well. I love snakes so was relieved that it didn’t bite anyone and it was safe and sound.
The twitter account was so funny! It was nice to make light of such a serious situation. I bet that snake will be a celebrity now and all her reptile friends will be jealous.
Since my daughter works at this zoo I am pleased to learn today
that the cobra has been found be-
fore a staff member was bit.
I wish your daughter a happy life and i was wondering if she is still working there
