'Skins' season finale: When controversy's not enough to carry a show

Many moons ago, it seemed like everyone on the Internet was clucking about Skins, MTV’s adaptation of a beloved British show that dramatizes the lives Read the full post.

Since so many people are complaining about people saying stuff when they didn’t even watch the entire series, let me just say, I did.

I also watched and loved (maybe not so much the 2nd gen) all of the UK series’ way befoe MTV announced the US version. This may make me bias towards the original, but oh well.

    PROS:
    1. The music was good, about on par with the original.
    2……

Yeah that’s about all that lived up to the original. btw to all the people saying you shouldn’t judge the show in comparison to the original, you’re wrong.

The acting wasn’t completely bad, it was somewhat stiff at some key points, I don’t think they got the best people they could, but maybe they cast could work on their skills while the shows on break. You could argue that the cast didn’t have enough sex appeal, but the show is supposed to be about ‘average’ teenagers (yes not all teens do what is portrayed in the show) not all teens look like the uber sexy people you see in most teen dramas.

The storyline definitely veered off from the original…I’m not sure though if that was such a good thing. I say that because they set up mostly the same characters, with the same personalities, and the same problems…yet they intend to lead to a different ending. If they get a second season then maybe it will work out alright, but my money is on that it won’t work, that it will crash and burn.

also I’ve read through the comments and there are some people who are praising it for the way it did things or for some of the episodes being really good and touching, I would just like to point out that most of the things you are all talking about were the exact same things they did in the original. Like how they focused on one main character each episode…guess what, they did that because that’s how the original worked. I saw a few comments on how Chris’ episode was really good…guess what, almost carbon copy of the original Chris episode.

Stop saying we shouldn’t judge it in comparison to the orignal and then praise it for things that it just copied from the original. If all it had copied was the name, then you would have a case where we shouldn’t judge in comparison. Unfortunately they didn’t do that.

Also I’ll be interested to see if they get another season how they’ll handle the A level device used in all of the UK generations, as we don’t really have any tests that are as big here in the US…maybe the SAT or something.

I agree that Skins deserves a second season, but not because of the actors, or or the controversy. Either the actors learn from their mistakes and get a personality, or they replace them, which, unfortunately isn’t new to the universe of Skins.
I personally love the UK versions, and the US version can still pick up where it left off.

I couldn’t of said it better myself although the only thing that wasn’t mentioned that was great about the show was the music. I would love to have a collection of the songs used in the series.

I really like the US skins even though I have not yet seen the UK version which i really must see. I believe my favorite character is Cadie complicated and cunfused with a line of mystery I believe I understood her even with her twist of stories. I enjoyed the show even with some comments being true acting was bad and the final episode was a little soft but stan and cadie’s duet made me want to hug them both with the understanding we all have been there.

Honestly I loved the show. I think the show 16 and pregnant should be cut off instead of Skins. I mean sure it has some drug use and teenage problems but a lot of shows do. Look at other shows and its negativity to issues today. Its not right!

Okay, the first season of SKINS US version left with so many questions that us not been answered. And plus I’ve never seen the UK version of SKINS.
