The inimitable Amy Poehler stopped by her old SNL castmate Jimmy Fallon’s show last night to chat about everything from her hilarious NBC sitcom — EW even got a shoutout for our Parks and Rec cover! — to Will Forte’s neck beard. While there, she also revealed a tidbit of information that might just cause an Internet explosion: She wants Bill Murray to guest-star on the show as Pawnee’s much-discussed but never seen Mayor Gunderson. Because the comedy legend is notoriously elusive, Poehler took this opportunity to address him directly, saying, “Bill Murray, if you’re listening, I will pay you $250 to do one episode of my show.” Who could turn down such a generous offer?
I, for one, certainly hope Bill happened to be watching Late Night on Wednesday; he’d be great guesting on any show, but I have a feeling he’d fit in particularly well on a quirky gem like Parks and Rec. Watch the clip for yourself below, then tell me: Are you on board with this idea? Or do you have someone else in mind for Mayor Gunderson?

Oh that would be fabulous! Except I’d want him to play it more old-school, Ghostbusters Bill Murray and less modern, sadface Bill Murray.
If Bill says no, maybe Jim Gaffigan? He’s an Indiana native.
Or get someone like Larry Bird, Peyton Manning, or Reggie Miller – an Indiana legend but no one realizes that the mayor looks exactly like that legend. (We need to see Detlef again…)
I like the idea of Jim Gaffigan.
holy crap haven’t thought about schrempf in years
Jim Gaffigan is an excellent idea. Another native Indianan who might–Letterman.
Screw Mayor Gunderson…when do we get to meet Rufus?
Murray would fit right in with this cast. If Ghostbusters 3 doesn’t happen, this wouldn’t be a bad conselation prize.
That’s an awesome idea! I’m sure his scenes with Nick Offerman would be legendary.
i could see it. Especially if Rufus was one of those little toy poodles or something. Please Bill Murray! I’ve actually heard this suggestion (hope?) before.
I love me some Bill Murray!
I want this is happen very, very badly!
this *to happen . . . I don’t know where that came from.
I will contribute an additional $10 to Amy’s offer to make this happen.
Put me down for 10 also. Heck, I’d even do $20
I’m in for $10, as well. C’mon on Bill!
I love this, especially the way it echos her and Bill’s old boss Lorne Michaels making a similar offer to the Beatles on SNL…and then George actually showed up to get the check!
But seriously, I’m in for $10…lookit that, we’re already almost a fifth of the way there!
The best thing is that Bill Murray strikes me as the kind of guy whose just crazy enough to take Amy up on her offer.
Would MUCH rather see this than “Ghostbusters 3.”
Hear, hear! May Poehler’s will be done!
Bill Murray is my favorite comedic actor. This would be all kinds of win.
Am I the only one who heard this about two weeks ago? The cast of Parks was at some event and Amy Poehler said the Bill Murray thing there.
He DOES seem like he’d be a great fit for this show.
he could get flecks of pee on the possum. that was too funny.
