James Franco in 'Your Highness': Best medieval-length hair ever?

Looking at the new character posters for Your Highness, I was struck most by how surprisingly hot James Franco’s hair looks at that length. It’s the perfect volume: More than he had in Pineapple Express, less than he had in Tristan + Isolde. Well done.

I’d need to see the film before making such a bold statement as this, but I’m thinking this could be the best medieval-length hair in cinema history. Or perhaps it’s just a tie between Franco and Viggo Mortensen on a good day in theĀ Lord of the Rings trilogy. I’m open to a debate.

See the new posters feature Your Highness‘ costars Natalie Portman and Danny McBride below.

Any other nominations medieval-length hair in cinema? (Can you say “reader-generated gallery?”)

I nominate Clive Owen’s bushy medieval hair in “King Arthur”.

  • Chelsea

Oh, and I guess this movie is less medieval, more Renaissance, but Dougray Scott has some pretty epic hair in “Ever After”

    • Marissa

Ah, loved Dougray Scott in Ever After! His hair did look awesome.

  • diremommy

Franco’s hair looks hot in this one, but he doesn’t even begin to attain the heights of greatness of Viggo’s Aragorn in tLotR trilogy.

Agree! Viggo’s coif beats Franco’s do, but only by a…(wait for it) hair. Sorry, couldn’t resist…should have though!

This picture of Franco wearing the man mane reminds me a little of Owen Wilson (another guy who looks good with longish locks).

    • Chelsea

I think Franco’s Tristan + Isolde look beats this one. And this look is nowhere near as hot as Viggo was in LOTR.

  • tracy bluth

It doesn’t come close to how hot Viggo’s hair was in LOTR.

  • seymour

Franco doesn’t come close to Viggo in the Lord of the Rings!!

But this look is way better than Tristan & Isolde, in which Franco appeared to have been wearing the carcass of a dead muppet.

I feel like you may be sleeping on Heath Ledger’s poster for “A Knight’s Tale” as well as the groan-worthy tagline for that movie. (“He will rock you.”)

ok not cinema, but medieval length hair hotness is craig horner in the second season of the legend of the seeker

  • Niema

Franco is just hot in general. long hair or short.

    • Kenneth

Franco is a cool guy, but I wish he would come out of the closet.

  • Kristi

I love James Franco but NOBODY beats the supremely hot Viggo in LOTR.

  • Hairmate

So many… Marc Singer in Beastmaster’s hair! Liam Neeson in Krull? Dolph Ludgren in He-Man!

  • jj6

    Viggo FTW!

  • kylie

Mandy Patinkin in “The Princess Bride”!! Not one hair out of place even as he continues his epic quest for the 6 fingered man!

    • Kal

      Oh yes, I agree!

  • Kal

Viggo had the best hair, sorry. And although I’m not that big a fan of the show . . . whoever plays Gwaine in BBC’s ‘Merlin’ has amazing hair too.

    • Chelsea

How on earth could I forget Richard Armitage as Guy (BBC’s Robin Hood)?!

      • Sarah

        Oh so true!!
        Richard Armitage hands down!

      • abadstroller

On board with that! True test: Hotter with the longish hair, or with the shorter hair? The great hair is what made Armitage’s bad guy, Guy of Gisbourne, soooo much more attractive than Jonas Armstrong’s ultimate good guy, Robin Hood! And I liked Robin Hood a lot!

      • Kal

        OH yeah, Armitage wins too!

      • Kim E

YES!!! Richard Armitage wins! Super hot in Robin Hood and in everything else!

  • ks

For me it would be James Callis in Season 3 BSG.
Sam Niell had some nice hair in Merlin

    • Merry Bear

I have to agree with the lovely bounty of Callis hair, but it wasn’t Medieval. Still, nothing compares with the lovely washed-and-brushed Viggo in LOTR. That scene in Fellowship with Liv when he’s wearing the green outfit is just gorgeous. God, I’m ashamed to be commenting on 10 year old movie hair when there are more pressing issues in the world. Franco draws me in every time.
