Simon can say that because it’s the truth–all other seasons of Idol were better than last year’s bore-fest. I mean, no one even knows who Season 9′s winner is. Lee Who? So far, the best seasons have been Season 1 (if only for Kelly), Season 2 (Clay vs. Ruben), Season 7 (David vs David; actually the whole Top 12 was all pretty good), and Season 8 (Adam vs Kris). I’m assuming Carrie’s season was good, too, but I didn’t really watch that one.

carrie’s season was good, but there was a feeling of carrie as a shoo in to win the entire season. but it was still good.
The performers on Season 8 and Season 9 were talented and not served by “Its All About the Judges and Seacrest as the TRue Stars” thinking. I think that Season 10 appears stronger than Season 8 and 9 in raw talent, but you have some people besides Lambert who will have good careers ahead of them, and Idol failed to really develop those other 19 to their peak performing potential.
The ratings declined on dysfunctional judges negative energy, producers without a good insight into what the audience wanted in troubled times in America that started in 2008.
Iraheta, Didi Benami, Siobhan Magnus were particularly ill-served. And Crystal Bowersox for not showcasing her as a fresh original artist but giving her worshipful tongue baths as long as she performed as recycled Bonnie Raitt, Etheridge, or Joplin.
Props to Cowell for conceeding that things have improved (after he, Ellen, and Dioguardi left and fresh producers came in and LESS of Seacrest per show started).
