Snake's alive! The Bronx Zoo Cobra found... at the Bronx Zoo!

You may now breathe a ssssigh of relief. After escaping from a cage at the Bronx Zoo last week and going MIA, a venomous 24-inch Egyptian Cobra was found on Thursday by zoo staffers. Was it captured while slithering its way through Central Park? Catching a Knicks game at Madison Square Garden? Enjoying a quiet dinner at an Italian bistro in the Village? Nope. She was just coiled up in a dark corner of the reptile house, a mere 200 feet from her cage, and is now “resting comfortably and secure,” according to zoo officials. (Cue the singer from Survivor: The search is over/you were with me all the while…) READ FULL STORY »

'American Idol': Which two singers went home?

Filed under: American Idol, Reality TV, TV and tagged: ,

Update: Annie’s recap is live

I may be reaching here, but for me for you, Dawg, I think it’s Stefano going home tonight. Yep, that’s him in the picture. Don’t be fooled by the overall “I got dressed in Ryan’s closet”-ness of Stefano’s appearance. Or the rocks that Jenny’s got, but that’s a given.

Who will join Stefano on the stools of doom? Thia? Paul? I’ll update this post as soon as we know which two of the top 11 have been eliminated. Update: READ FULL STORY »

While you pine for Sally Draper, let's all picture Kiernan Shipka in 'The Hunger Games'

Could anything good possibly come from this whole Mad Men impasse? Things looked awful bleak yesterday, when AMC officially announced that the sorely missed show wouldn’t return for a fifth season until March 2012. A year from now. (UPDATE: What a difference a day makes: We’ll still have to wait for new episodes, but at least the Great Mad Men Impasse is now settled.) How would Sally survive without all of us faithful audience members cheering her on each week while sticking pins into our Betty dolls? In the last two seasons, 11-year-old Kiernan Shipka has transformed from a perfectly fine kid actor into a genuine powerhouse, her troubled Sally so full of worry and rage, at once completely vulnerable in the face of her disappointing parents and somehow tougher and better than the both of them. But now with Mad Men‘s production schedule delayed, Shipka’s spring is suddenly freed up in interesting ways. Last fall, she told EW that she planned on spending the hiatus exploring possible movie roles. “I would love to do a big action film,” she said. Oh, honey, may we suggest The Hunger Games?

Kevin McKidd says 'Grey's Anatomy' musical will likely garner 'a positive reaction.' Are you ready?

I’ve got a box of Puffs ready to go for tonight’s Grey’s Anatomy: The Musical Event. If you haven’t done the same, it’s safe for me to declare you completely unprepared.

Last week, I admitted to being skeptical about this episode, but the more and more I hear about it, the more confident I am that I’m going to be completely destroyed tonight. That’s a good thing! Kevin McKidd (who plays Owen) thinks we’ll like it, too.

“I think any time — at least in my life — you take a risk and try something new it’s always worked out, Because life would be boring if we just did the same thing every single day,” he says. “It’s a pretty emotional episode. It plays into the strengths the show has always had. My hunch is that it’s going to be a positive reaction.”

He’d know — Owen actually plays a big part in the episode because [MINI SPOILER] READ FULL STORY »

'American Idol': Was James Durbin's 'Pepsi moment' remark funny or insensitive?

Turns out last night’s American Idol came complete with a cup full o’ unexpected controversy. Following James Durbin’s performance of Elton John’s “Saturday Night’s Alright (For Fighting),” the contestant told host Ryan Seacrest that he feared he would experience a “Pepsi moment” on stage, thanks to a healthy dose of hairspray and some pyrotechnics. Here’s where the controversy comes in (and no, it doesn’t surround the fact that Durbin said the dreaded “P-word” on the heavily Coke-branded show): For you youngins, “Pepsi moment” refers to an incident in 1984 when the late Michael Jackson suffered second-degree burns after pyrotechnics lit his hair on fire while filming a Pepsi commercial, an injury from which he reportedly never fully recovered.

Criticism surrounding the supposed insensitivity of Durbin’s comment — and the fact that Fox did not censor it during the West Coast feed — spread quickly throughout the Internet, with even Jackson’s family reportedly expressing anger about the remark. Fox is not commenting on the matter, but we’re going to toss this one to you, PopWatchers: Was Durbin’s quip in poor taste? Or are fans being oversensitive? Vote in our poll below. READ FULL STORY »

James Franco talks Oscars bombing with Letterman: 'I think the Tasmanian Devil would look stoned standing next to Anne Hathaway'

On Friday’s Late Show, James Franco and David Letterman bond over their much-maligned performances as Oscar hosts. Watch a preview below. Franco admits he’s thought about why viewers would think he was “under the influence,” and his best guess: “I love her, but Anne Hathaway is so energetic, I think the Tasmanian Devil would look stoned standing next to Anne Hathaway,” he jokes. Truthfully, he says, he hasn’t played the ceremony back, and maybe he had low energy, but he felt, “I honestly played those lines as well as I could.” Letterman asked Franco why he even cares what people thought. Franco says just because being the best Oscar host ever wasn’t on his list of things to do doesn’t mean he didn’t care or try hard. “But here’s the hypocritical thing,” he says. “Leading up to the Oscars, I couldn’t hear enough about how, ‘Oh, people don’t care about the Oscars anymore. It’s dead. It’s boring. It’s at the end of a long awards season. Who cares about it?’ Well, as soon as you don’t host the way they want you to, they suddenly care, and they won’t shut up about it. Then they can’t hear enough about a show they don’t care about.”  READ FULL STORY »

Brooke Shields has signed on to fill Bebe Neuwirth’s heels as slinky matriarch Morticia in Broadway’s The Addams Family. “I’m delighted,” the actress said in a statement. “I found it to be wonderfully entertaining, funny, clever, and even touching, and I knew immediately that I wanted to be the next Morticia.” This will mark Shield’s fifth turn on the Broadway boards, after stints in GreaseChicago, Cabaret, and Wonderful Town (all as a replacement). I got a fever. And the only prescription is more birthdays for Christopher Walken.

When I think of Christopher Walken, the Oscar-winning actor who celebrates his 68th birthday today, I immediately think of his soliloquy in Pulp Fiction when his Captain Koons tells a young fatherless boy about the long distinguished history of his family’s watch. No, check that: I would have to say that his Saturday Night Live skit where famed producer Bruce Dickinson demands more cow-bell from Will Ferrell on “Don’t Fear the Reaper” is my favorite moment. Hm. Come to think of it, his scene in Annie Hall as Duane the wackjob brother is pretty tough to beat. Stop. I got it: Nothing tops dancin’ Walken in the Fatboy Slim video for “Weapon of Choice.” Wait! Oh jeez. I totally forgot his last tragic scene in The Deer Hunter. Alright, so there’s a lot of great Christopher Walken stuff — don’t forget his “Poker Face” and his suave resident at The Continental. Maybe we should just say happy birthday to the man, and then sit back, relax, and try and enjoy a nice dinner of chicken with caramelized pears. READ FULL STORY »
