'Parks and Recreation': Goodbye, Rob Lowe?

rob-lowe_320.jpg Image Credit: Danny Feld/NBCA moment of silence, please, for the power couple that was Chris and Ann. Sure, they weren’t the show’s best-loved union — that honor goes to April and Andy, though Ben and Leslie might take it when they finally hook up — but those crazy kids really did seem to make sense together.

Their split came as the result of Chris finally moving back to Indianapolis. Since Chris is no longer living in Pawnee — and since he’s no longer attached to Ann — this seems to imply that Rob Lowe’s stint on Parks and Rec has come to an end. (At the very least, it’s going to be difficult to integrate his character into the show after this point; he’s apparently not in “Harvest Festival,” P&R‘s next episode.) I’m not sure how to feel about this. Chris certainly isn’t an essential character, but he’s a lot of fun to have around. I think I’m going to end up missing his particular brand of crazy if he’s gone for awhile. [Update: Mea culpa: Lowe was added as a series regular after this episode was shot, so I guess he's not actually going anywhere. So how will his return be explained? Speculate below!] READ FULL STORY »

'American Idol': On the Green Mile (I hope they dance)

Filed under: American Idol, Reality TV, TV and tagged: ,

american-idol-judgesUpdate: Annie’s recap is live

Tonight the remaining hopefuls will be walking the terrifyingly long plank for two whole hours, so yeah, I hope they break out some moves that I can screengrab and over-analyze later. Work that disco runway, girl. (Give a twirl!)

Chat about American Idol‘s monstrous episode here during and after the show, then come back later for my full recap.

Oh and speaking of walking the plank, Steven Tyler is kind of a more fabulous Captain Hook in this photo. Simon is Tink.

David Arquette opens up to Oprah about his childhood, his marriage, his separation, and his intervention

Filed under: Television, TV and tagged: , ,

David-ArquetteImage Credit: Harpo Productions/George Burns/AP ImagesThe only thing that could have made David Arquette’s sit-down with Oprah Winfrey seem like even more of a success would be Charlie Sheen calling into another radio show on the day it aired. (Oh wait, Sheen did.) As Arquette joked to Winfrey, you have your breakdown on Howard Stern, then you come back together on Oprah — and it appears he has. Arquette taped the interview a little over two weeks after completing a 28-day rehab program for alcohol addiction. He was honest and more serious than most of us have ever seen him as he discussed his public spiral and detailed the events that led to his separation from wife Courteney Cox. READ FULL STORY »

Could this actress be Renesmee in 'Breaking Dawn'?

Could Christie Burke be the lucky young lady tapped to play a grown-up version of Renesmee in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn? The Internet was abuzz today with the news that the young teen has been cast as an older version of the tiny Bella-Edward spawn, long rumored to be played by 9-year-old Mackenzie Foy. There isn’t a lot of information available on Burke, aside from some commercial credits (Wrigleys!), a guest star role on Tower Prep, and small parts in a couple of movies. (Also listed under special skills: Soccer, Volleyball, Basketball, Water Skiing, Snowboarding, Gymnastics, Track & Field & Improvisation. And yet nothing about falling in love with certain muscular werewolves!)

When reached by EW, the studio declined to comment, but what do you think PopWatchers? Do you think Burke as the right look for the part?

'South Park' creators: 'Spider-Man' musical 'sucks' -- EXCLUSIVE

Trey-Parker-Matt-StoneImage Credit: Michael Yarish; Jacob CohlSouth Park visionaries Trey Parker and Matt Stone officially join the Broadway community tonight with the first preview performance of their new musical The Book of Mormon. (Be sure to check out EW’s full Q&A with the duo in our new issue, on stands tomorrow.) And true to their hell-raising reputation, the pair aren’t making nice with their new neighbors — specifically Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark. “It’s horrible,” says Parker of the problem-plagued mega-musical. “I don’t think there’s any bombshell in us saying Spider-Man sucks. Nobody thinks it’s good.” Adds Stone: “Obviously, art is subjective. But not in that case. That’s just not good.” READ FULL STORY »

Just for kicks, Ricky Gervais pens an Oscars monologue for Anne Hathaway and James Franco

Gervais-at-Golden-GlobesImage Credit: Paul Drinkwater/NBCHey, remember how Ricky Gervais hosted the Golden Globes a couple times? Well, that makes him something of an awards show expert — even if his latest outing wasn’t exactly well-received by everyone. The Office creator flexed his dormant hosting muscle on his blog this week, where he posted a monologue that Academy Awards hosts James Franco and Anne Hathaway can feel free to use “in case they have a few minutes to fill.” The fake opener is predictably colorful. Here’s an excerpt: READ FULL STORY »

Jennifer Lopez's 'American Idol' breakdown: Was that some great TV or what?

Jennifer-Lopez-cryingImage Credit: FoxFor nigh on many seasons now, fans of American Idol have grown accustomed to watching the wannabe superstars who flood into Hollywood each season dissolve into puddles of tears and heartache amid the pressure (and sleep deprivation) of the competition, the devastation of getting cut, and even the elation of making it on to the next round. Year after year, it always makes for a fizzy cocktail of empathy and melodrama, spiked with a shot of schadenfreude — in other words, it’s usually darn good television.

But watching Jennifer Lopez crumple into the ugly cry in the face of (SPOILER ALERT!) letting contestant Chris Medina go? READ FULL STORY »

James Franco and Anne Hathaway reenact the carnival scene from 'Grease'

This really is a new way to do the Oscars. James Franco continues his Twitter teases as Sunday’s ceremony approaches, most recently with a 19-second clip of he, co-host Anne Hathaway, and some dancing extras reenacting the carnival scene from Grease. This could be something from their opening, which producer Bruce Cohen has told EW will involve a combination of filmed and live elements, some singing, and “a very exciting and special guest star or two.” Or perhaps it’s a part of some kind of tribute to the movie musical. (Rumors had been circulating that the duo would be performing “Suddenly, Seymour” from Little Shop of Horrors, which Cohen told us sadly didn’t make the cut.) Watch the clip below, as well as some bonus promo outtakes. So far, I’m loving everything about the build-up to this year’s Oscars except ABC’s insistence that Franco and Hathaway are hosting “Oscar.” That annoy anyone else?  READ FULL STORY »

Larry King talks to Piers Morgan, offers terrible but wonderful advice

Filed under: TV and tagged: ,

Larry-King-on-Piers-MorganImage Credit: CNNLarry King appeared on Piers Morgan Tonight yesterday, looking like a deposed monarch returning to his old kingdom happily gloating over the problems facing his successor. (Biblical!) Discussing King’s recent comments that the new host hasn’t been dangerous enough, Morgan argued that he had to oversell himself a little bit: “You can’t follow Sinatra in Vegas and say, ‘I’m not very good.’” King argued that Morgan should have had a slightly more realistic ad campaign: “Piers Morgan: I’m Coming. Watch Me.” Then Morgan showed off his new Union Jack suspenders. Watch it all after the jump: READ FULL STORY »

Randy Jackson on 'The Tonight Show': 'There's some shockers coming' on 'Idol'

As on American Idol, Randy Jackson contributed very little to his interview with Jay Leno on The Tonight Show last night — dude wouldn’t even pick a gender for the winner! — but he did hint at tonight’s Idol bloodbath: “I think there’s some shockers coming,” he told Jay. I will fight the urge to channel Michael Scott, ack, I can’t help it, that’swhatshesaid! Phew, out of my system. Yes, according to the dawg-edly repetitive one, we are about to lose some fan favorites. But who could it be? Please, Idol gods, not the reportedly hospitalized Casey Abrams. Tell me PopWatchers: Who do you think Randy might be referring to? And which Idol “favorites” could you afford to lose? READ FULL STORY »
