Mattel releases Barbie dolls of Krystle and Alexis from 'Dynasty': Your Christmas wish list starts now!

OMG — there are Dynasty Barbie dolls, people! I got a press release detailing the release of Krystle and Alexis dolls a few days ago, and immediately wrote back to the PR flack, telling her I needed to see them in person. Immediately. And here they are — I’m so happy to confirm, dear EW readers, that the dolls are glorious in person: They’re just as you see them on the left here, in all their gaudy, shoulder-festooned, door-knocker deliciousness. Do you die over them like me? If you loved this show, they’re completely must-haves.

They’re sold separately on Barbie’s Pink Label, and each box comes with a quote from the corresponding Dynasty diva on the front. Alexis’ is: “That sounds like a challenge and I adore a challenge!” Krystle’s is: “If you want a rematch just whistle! If you can!” So cheesy. So stupid. So awesome.

The best part about both dolls? As the back of the packaging reveals, both are in gowns that are “inspired by the original Nolan Miller designs!” As you might guess, there’s a reason for Barbie to get on the Dynasty train: The show just celebrated its 30th anniversary on Jan. 11, and a big-screen version of the show is in the works.

The big question that lingers in my mind, however, is: How long until some gay with too much time on his hands recreates the embedded below — and totally ultimate — catfight between Alexis and Krystle with these dolls and posts to YouTube? I can’t wait: READ FULL STORY »

'Water for Elephants' poster convincing me it's actually 'Moulin Rouge'

In my mind, Water for Elephants is really just a sequel to Moulin Rouge. But only because I’m looking at their very similar posters side-by-side. (See an even more similar-looking poster here.) Bright lights! Female Oscar winners! Getting cozy with accented romantics! Also: Water for Elephant‘s poster features (fittingly, of course) an elephant. (“Elephant Love Medley,” guys!) And the tagline: “Life is the most spectacular show on Earth.” (“Spectacular, spectacular,” guys!) All that’s missing is a Narcoleptic Argentinian. Hey, I only speak the truth.

The best NFL cheerleader shot you'll see this week

Categories: Sports, Television

Larry-DallasCowboysIf you’re not an avid Steelers or Packers fan, you may not be aware that they are among the handful of teams in the NFL without official cheerleaders. So, for the first time come Sunday, there will be no cheerleaders at the Super Bowl. Are you okay with that, or a little disappointed? If it’s the latter, we’re happy to provide you with — as the headline says — the best shot of NFL cheerleaders you’ll see this week. It’s an exclusive photo of the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders with Larry the Cable Guy from an upcoming episode of his new series, Only in America with Larry the Cable Guy, debuting Feb. 8 on History. We’ll have a chat with him posting Monday on our Inside TV blog, but here’s all you need to know now: He travels the country finding the people, places, and things that define this nation’s history — which clearly encompasses the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders.

'Smallville' and 'Supernatural' return tonight. Hip, hip... (Plus, a scooplet!)

Smallville-SupernaturalImage Credit: Michael Courtney/The CW; Michael Muller/The CWAfter an unfortunate week-long delay, Smallville and Supernatural are BACK tonight, PopWatchers. (Hold applause and tears of joy until the end of the post, please.)

Tonight marks the return of Allison Mack as Chloe, and judging by the previews it’s going to be everything mega fans have been waiting for. Over on Superntural, Sam and his soul are bffs again, and we’re introduced to a new big (actually, it’s normal-sized, technically) baddie.  READ FULL STORY »

Which pop culture roommate most resembles your own?

Crazy-roommates-tv-moviesClearly, if you are reading this, you are still alive and (presumably) unharmed, which means you don’t live with a Hedy or a Baby Jane. (Or, that you might be the Hedy or Baby Jane! Twist!) But in honor of the Single White Female-esque film The Roommate — starring Leighton Meester and Minka Kelly — hitting theaters today, I’m asking you, PopWatchers, to tell me which pop culture roommate most resembles your own. Jesse McCartney books Fox drama pilot. What other former teen idols deserve a (possible) comeback?

Jesse-McCartneyImage Credit: Joe Kohen/WireImage for Clear Channel At this point, I barely remember that Jesse McCartney became a household name after being a part of the short-lived boyband Dream Street. (Don’t play it cool. You know you saw the commercials for their albums while watching Disney Channel in the early ’00s.) Since those days, I’ve heard about McCartney on-and-off, mostly because he has had a pretty good run as a solo artist and multiple guest appearances on TV shows. Point is: The guy has kept busy, whether you’ve taken note of it or not. But now you’re going to definitely take note.  READ FULL STORY »

PopWatch Confessional: What's your stupidest and/or most dangerous distraction story?

Growing up, I remember my father always saying, “You need to be entertained 24 hours a day.” For the record, this was usually uttered on long car trips during which he refused to play the radio, looked in the rearview mirror, and saw me in the backseat wearing headphones. Today, however, entertainment can be a dangerous distraction, as we’ve been reminded in two recent viral videos — the woman who walked and texted and fell into a shopping mall fountain (or as ABC News put it, took a “digital dunk”) and, worse, the 10-year-old boy so engrossed in his video game that he walked right off the subway platform in Milan and fell onto the tracks (luckily an off-duty police officer standing nearby immediately jumped down and rescued him because the next train was due in under a minute). You can watch footage of the latter event below. We can watch these videos now because we know the victims are fine (at least physically). What is the stupidest and/or most dangerous thing a pop culture distraction has made you do? READ FULL STORY »

'Grey's Anatomy,' 'Big Bang Theory,' take on Twitter

greys-anatomyImage Credit: Randy Holmes/ABCTelevision was a-Twitter last night, with both Grey’s Anatomy and The Big Bang Theory relying heavily on current technology for plot points. Sheldon’s students tweeted about how bad his lectures were, and someone “uploaded pictures to their Flickr account.” On Grey‘s, some of the doctors started tweeting their surgeries. Timely!

Maybe too timely, actually: READ FULL STORY »

This Week on Stage: Maggie Gyllenhaal and company glow in 'Three Sisters'

Three-SistersImage Credit: Joan MarcusJanuary’s post-holiday lull — when New York’s ticket-buying tourists flee the city — is never kind to theater grosses. Add 20-plus inches of snow and you get last week’s Broadway box office freeze, when even the top earners – Wicked, The Lion King, Jersey Boys, American Idiot, and Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark, which is still in previews — played to only 85 percent capacity. But things are looking up for the beginning of February: Melissa Etheridge stepped into American Idiot as drug pusher St. Jimmy on Tuesday for a one week stint; no word yet on how that affected ticket sales. And several new off-Broadway shows opened over the last few days, some getting pretty high marks from our critics.  READ FULL STORY »

'Captain America' poster: Dark mud, bright shield, and an intriguing tagline

The first poster for the Captain America movie just hit Slashfilm, and it’s a striking image — definitely what you’d expect from an action movie/spinoff/prequel-to-a-movie-that-hasn’t-been-made-yet. Chris Evans has a sober expression on his face; the colors of his iconic costume are muted and bleak; and the whole poster is covered with war-movie grime, as if a land-mine just went off behind Cap. And Cap’s bright-red shield looks like it’s taken a couple hundred machine-gun blasts. Check out the full poster below: READ FULL STORY »
