Paul Scheer of 'The League' shares his Super Bowl XLV diary. Frito Pie, anyone?

Yesterday was a good day: We whipped up some guac, plugged in our new flat screens, invited over a few buddies, and adjusted our chair settings to max recline. The only thing that could’ve made this Super Bowl Sunday any better? If we had been lucky enough to witness that Packers-Steelers battle in person. Paul Scheer — star of FX’s fantasy football comedy The League — made the trek to Dallas, and was kind/lucid enough to share his Super Bowl diary with EW. READ FULL STORY »

Lea Michele 'Cosmo' cover controversy: Much ado about nothing?

Categories: Glee, Sexytimes

lea-michele-cosmopolitan-coverGlee star Lea Michele is experiencing more growing pains after posing for the March cover of Cosmo in a little black dress with a wide neckline that plunges to her belly button. FoxNews.com interviewed a mother who claims her 12-year-old son was “confused and offended” by Michele, who plays Glee‘s good girl Rachel, posing this way next to a cover line that says she has “naughty secrets.” Cosmo publisher Hearst is using the same defense GQ did last year: “Michele is a grown woman and Cosmopolitan is a magazine for adults.”

I haven’t seen the inside shots, but assuming they’re not showing her frolicking in a high school locker room or hallway in this ensemble (which forces the connection between her and her character), I don’t have a problem with this shoot. For both the reasons Hearst offered and the fact that Cosmo is a magazine for adult women. This photo shoot feels more like Michele choosing to “sex up” her image for herself, not for men — which does make a difference to me, whether or not it should.  READ FULL STORY »

The kid who plays Darth Vader looks exactly like Mark Hamill

The child who played Darth Vader in the cute Volkswagen commercial was on the Today show this morning, and uh, he looks a lot like Luke Skywalker. Like, a lot a lot. Max Page, 6, had never seen Star Wars when he booked the spot, which is his first national commercial. Don’t watch the prequels, Max! Save yourself. READ FULL STORY »

Clip du jour: 'Wicked' as a Disney movie

What if Wicked became a Disney animated film? Animator Heidi Jo Gilbert put together these storyboards, and they’re pretty fantastic. The doe-eyed Disney princess look, the quirky skyline, the “I want” anthem: in just two minutes, this clip manages to cover all the requisite Disney bases except for “excitable sidekick.” I know this movie might never happen, but it’s still nice to daydream, no? Bud Light, Doritos, Volkswagen: Who had the top ad in the Super Bowl?

The Darth Vader kid, a galloping pug, and Joan Rivers in hotpants: Which ad was number one this year? Well, it depends on whom you ask: According to a USA Today panel, the most popular ad was a tie between Bud Light’s dog-sitting spot and Doritos’ dog-breaking-the-door ad. But a panel of Northwestern business school students had a slightly different take, picking Volkswagen’s Star Wars commercial as the best. The full rankings:

NFL's 'Best Fans Ever' Super Bowl spot: Ah, nostalgia. And hi, Fonzie!

Kudos for NFL for giving TV audiences what they want during the Super Bowl: a commercial that appeals to all TV audiences. After the third quarter, the NFL aired a spot highlighting Super Bowl-centric scenes from Friends, Happy Days, Beverly Hills, 90210, Family Guy, South Park, Glee, Full House, and more. Nice to see that you don’t have to spend millions of dollars on one celebrity to hawk your product when, well, you can have them all. See the awesome pop-culture-palooza spot after the jump. Yay for montages! READ FULL STORY »

Justin Bieber's Super Bowl Best Buy ad: The tween sensation... now with more facial hair!

Justin Bieber has facial hair. At least, he did during his Best Buy commercial with Ozzy Osbourne for the Super Bowl. Not only did the tween sensation play himself during the ad, but he also donned a fake beard (and a disappearing hairline) in the spot — and showed off a sense of humor about his own image: After Osbourne asked who Bieber was, the disguised Bieber responded, “I don’t know, but he kinda looks like a girl.” (Hopefully he can also laugh about being booed at during a Knicks game this week.) See the video of the Best Buy ad embedded after the jump: READ FULL STORY »

Super Bowl XLV: Best and worst commercials?

Presenting… Your Super Bowl Commercials of 2011, brought to you by Eminem. He LOST HIMSELF in not one but two major ad campaigns this year. During the first quarter, Claymation Eminem quenched his thirst with a refreshing Brisk iced tea; then just before halftime, super-intense human Eminem delivered a cross between a eulogy and a giant “eff you, pay attention” on behalf of the city of Detroit. And you thought he didn’t do commercials.

Meanwhile, Ozzy Osbourne finally had to find out what a Bieber was, Adrien Brody serenaded some crying/orgasmic women (Stella Artois), Faith Hill’s rack is huge (Teleflora), Timothy Hutton is really, really into Tibetan fish curry (Groupon.com), and Kim Kardashian’s ass (Shape-Ups) is ass usual. Plus, so many movie trailers, including J.J. Abrams and Steven Spielberg’s Super 8, Terra Nova, Thor, Cowboys & Aliens — starring Danny Craig and Indy Ford — Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, and a first look at Marvel’s Captain America: The First Avenger. My five favorite commercials, after the break. READ FULL STORY »
