'The Good Wife': What's going to happen next week between Alicia and Will?

Filed under: Television, TV and tagged: , ,

good-wifeImage Credit: Craig Blankenhorn/CBSIt’s taken me awhile to warm to Alicia’s brother on The Good Wife, but now that the promo for the Feb. 15 episode has shown him encouraging her to talk to Will about her feelings (and that second voicemail he left her), he’s my new best friend. I was already on a good TV-induced high from Will and Diane’s low-five last night after they tricked Derrick into firing some of his people, but when the promo embedded below started — “for this wife the waiting is finally over” — I almost passed out. How do you think that conversation, pictured, will play out? READ FULL STORY »

Ted Williams on 'Early Show': 'It was too much, too fast'

Filed under: Television, TV and tagged: , ,

Ted Williams, the Ohio homeless man who became a YouTube sensation due to his golden radio voice, returned to the CBS Early Show this morning to discuss his roller-coaster ride of sudden fame. Looking polished and more comfortable in front of the cameras, Williams reflected on his emotionally jarring recent experiences, including his decision to leave a Texas rehab center. “It was too much, too fast, and I was just not really focused on what I should be doing,” he said. “I felt scripted. I was doing live phone-ins (to TV shows) from rehab.” READ FULL STORY »

'My Life as Liz' season premiere: Return of the half-nerd half-ginger goddess

My-Life-as-LizImage Credit: MTVThere has been a lot of speculation about what, precisely, MTV’s My Life as Liz is. Scripted reality? An episode of Liz has more narrative structure than, say, an episode of The City, but it’s also less grounded in reality than Teen Mom. Is it some kind of Laguna Beach-meets-My So-Called Life hybrid? The real people! The unrequited love! The angst! My God, the red hair! MTV maintains the show is “real.” This season, like last season, is about her “real” life with her “real” friends and her “real” school (the Pratt Insitute). According to the network, Liz’s involvement is solely in front of the camera, not as a writer. She lives her life, and MTV tries to capture it the best they can. That makes total sense. I regularly stand in white rooms and have dodge balls hurled at me by unseen hands. READ FULL STORY »

'V': Well-dressed snipers always ruin a good cocktail party

Filed under: About Last Night, TV and tagged: ,

V-Concordia-MonicaImage Credit: Sergei Bachlakov/ABCSniper rifles are awesome. But there’s never really been a great sniper movie, besides Enemy at the Gates, which unfortunately gets really bad when anyone besides Ron Perlman starts talking. A filmmaker’s natural instinct is to make a sniper action movie, and a sniper rifle isn’t really an action-movie weapon at all. Sniper rifles conjure up tension, not shoot-em-up thrills: You know the shot’s going to come sooner or later, but the characters onscreen are mostly clueless. It’s a Hitchcockian weapon, and it’s a big reason why last night’s episode of V, which featured the best-dressed sniper team on the planet, was such a surprisingly involving hour of television. Julia Roberts as an evil queen. Famke Janssen as a hunted witch. Fairy tales are going grim(m).

Disney; Kimberly French

Once upon a time, there was a studio executive. And on one bright, sunny, beautiful day, that studio executive put on his magical thinking cap and came up with the grandest of ideas: “I’ve got it!” the handsome man said to his loyal assistant steed. “Let us tap into moviegoers’ hearts via nostalgia. Let’s bring to life the mystical, wonderful tales they heard as wee ones ready for respite in bed! And where, I say, is my coffee?” And so it began: The fairy tale movie trend.

So, after awhile, a Stardust came and went. Then an Enchanted, a conglomerate of every fairy tale of our youth, captured our hearts. Then an Alice in Wonderland collected more gold than a leprechaun could ever hope to see. And today, we see the casting of Julia Roberts in one of two Snow White projects, and Famke Janssen in Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters (which Paramount confirmed to EW). So you know what this means: This trend will carry on until the fat lady sings. You know, Strega Nona. READ FULL STORY »

Barry Watson returns. (Not in clown makeup = bonus.)

Filed under: Television, TV and tagged: , ,

Barry-WatsonImage Credit: Jeff Vespa/WireImage.comBarry Watson, last seen guesting on Lifetime’s Drop Dead Diva as a man who got fired from his job because he insisted upon dressing like a clown (inset), is back. He’s costarring in the TV Land sitcom pilot Rip City (working title) with Zoolander‘s Christine Taylor. The network describes the show, from Less Than Perfect‘s Terri Minsky, as “a multi-camera office comedy taking place at Rip City Cola, a regional beverage manufacturer and distributor. When an Ivy League-educated female takes over as the boss, the entire office is shaken up, particularly a beloved executive at the company who long ago decided to forgo college in favor of working his way up the ranks at Rip City.” No one wears vulnerable, lost, and likable better than Watson (What About Brian, Samantha Who?), am I right?  READ FULL STORY »

Howard Stern joins Twitter. What took him so long?

Filed under: News and tagged: ,

Howard-SternImage Credit: Jennifer Graylock/AP ImagesFor someone who considers himself The King of All Media, it’s taken Howard Stern an awfully long time to take Twitter seriously. The satellite-radio funnyman only just began tweeting on Feb. 3, if tentatively: “@JohnStamos John…I have no idea how to work twitter…help. I’m feeling very out of it” he tweeted on Friday. By Saturday, though, he seemed more confident: “What I wouldn’t do for a booger right now. Let’s all go to boogerville.” That is how you tweet, Fart Man. READ FULL STORY »

Justin Bieber uses 'Chandler Bing' as name for hotels. What's your pop culture alias?

Justin-Bieber-Chandler-BingImage Credit: Everett Collection; George Pimentel/WireImage.comThere was a time when I steered clear of Justin Bieber headlines, but it’s over. Now, it’s like I have to read each one so I can decide whether he’s earned or lost a point with me. On today’s Ellen DeGeneres Show, Matthew Perry revealed that he recently learned Bieber uses the name Chandler Bing when he checks into hotels. Point for Bieber. Watch the clip below (which also includes Perry’s random impersonations of Dustin Hoffman, Mickey Rourke, and Michael Keaton).

Bieber will be on Ellen Wednesday, so if he doesn’t already know he needs a new alias, we assume he’ll find out then. In the meantime, what’s your go-to pop-culture alias? Hopefully we’re not all checking into hotels under false names, so it can be a name you’ve used for anything. I’ve been known to go by Mr. Bilbo online. (Anyone know what that’s from?)  READ FULL STORY »
