On the scene: Hollywood goes off-Broadway to pay tribute to Naked Angels

edie-falcoImage Credit: Peter Kramer/AP ImagesActors of all kinds, from A-list movie stars and Broadway veterans to up-and-comers, turned up at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City on Valentine’s night to pay tribute to the Naked Angels’ 25th anniversary. The Naked Angels company has been nurturing the careers of theater types and encouraging provocative storytelling since 1986, and the stars showed up in droves to show their appreciation.

The night started out with a very crowded VIP cocktail reception. I spotted Edie Falco catching up with her Sopranos costar and recent Top Chef guest judge Lorraine Bracco — both were gorgeous and looked years younger than they did playing the leading ladies in Tony’s life. READ FULL STORY »

Justin Bieber late-night roundup: The Biebs disses Gaga's egg, teases Chelsea Handler, and touches Conan's hair

Justin Bieber has every reason to be cruising the late-night circuit. He has a movie in theaters. He’s coming off a well-received Grammy performance. And he’s, well, Justin Bieber.

On Chelsea Lately, the singer gave his frequent flirt buddy a big, wet cheek smooch before giving her a Grammy post-game of sorts. He lamented his two losses (“I’m not gonna lie. People are expecting me to say, like, something else, but I’m disappointed”) and spoke about his awkward encounter with Lady Gaga at last year’s ceremony. “She went for a hug, and I was like ‘Oh, let’s just hold up on that. You have meat on you,’” he said.

And apparently he’s not a fan of Gaga’s fashions or, erm, expressions at all, taking a jab at her egg/pod entrance this year. “People say it’s artistic and stuff, and I’m, like, ‘You’re an egg.’” READ FULL STORY »

'Mad Love' series premiere: Great cast + so-so relationship story = potential?

Filed under: TV and tagged:

Mad-Love-castImage Credit: Sonja Flemming/CBSThere were literal fireworks on the series premiere of Mad Love. Given the incredible cast, I was expecting a little more spark. But in a weird way, I think the insultingly formulaic debut episode bodes well for the series. We got a lot of boring stuff out of the way: Ben (played by Jason Biggs) and Kate (Sarah Chalke!) meet-way-too-cute atop the Empire State Building, where they apparently hang out all the time; they have not one but two misunderstandings that pose roadblocks to their inevitable relationship; but in the end, they of course get together. Entire seasons of sitcoms have been built on less, so hopefully we’ve already answered the Ross/Rachel, Jim/Pam will-they-or-won’t-they question, and now the show can focus on more interesting things. Irina Shayk named 'Sports Illustrated' Swimsuit cover girl

Filed under: News and tagged: , ,

sports-illustratedSports Illustrated has a new Swimsuit Issue cover girl. Irina Shayk (née Shaykhlislamova), a 25-year-old beauty from a small town in Russia, was revealed as the magazine’s newest supermodel during last night’s Late Show with David Letterman (though people who worked in Letterman’s midtown Manhattan neighborhood couldn’t help but learn the news a few hours before the show was broadcast.) “There were 10 models there to do the Top 10 List (see below), and nobody knows until the last minute who the cover will be,” Shayk said at the show. “And then I saw it, and I couldn’t believe it.” READ FULL STORY »

'How I Met Your Mother': Are Marshall and Lily stealing the show?

How-Mother-DesperationThere was so much to love on last night’s Desperation/Valentine’s Day episode of How I Met Your Mother. For one, we welcomed Barney’s new squeeze, played by Nazanin Boniadi of General Hospital. And what’s not to love about her? She made Barney question his Desperation Day theory and played freaking laser tag. Laser tag — the only quicker way to Barney Stinson’s heart than claiming to be an aerobics instructor with daddy issues. In sum: She was legen– wait, that’s really over now, right? Ok, I liked her, and I loved Barney’s reaction of adorable thanks when he realized that Robin had set him up. READ FULL STORY »

'The Amazing Spider-Man': We are PRO mechanical web-shooters. You?

Filed under: Movies and tagged: , ,

Back in 2001, I had the opportunity to visit the Los Angeles set of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man and watched the director and his star, Tobey Maguire, shoot the scene in which Peter Parker locks himself in his bedroom and plays with his newfound web-spinning powers. Raimi was a stickler for perfection that day, filming many, many takes of Maguire pretending to fire jets of silk from slits in his wrist across the room, ring and middle fingers bent back to his palm, the other three fingers extended like prongs. The webs erupting from the actor’s hands had to be imagined, but the floor of Parker’s bedroom — built on a soundstage on the Sony lot — was littered with hundreds of little pieces of kinky pasta-colored silly-stringish stuff. I swiped a strand when no one was looking — I didn’t think anyone would miss it — and it occupies a spot on a shelf in my office. I treasure it like a trophy… even if it most visitors to my office confuse it for a piece of trash. READ FULL STORY »

'RuPaul's Drag Race': Does Raja have this season locked up already?

Raja-Drag-RaceSo, Raja might not have won last night’s newscasting challenge on RuPaul’s Drag Race — that honor went to the pineapple-perfect and politically incorrect Manila Luzon — but the episode, which saw the statuesque queen don three amazing looks, certainly raised this question: Does Raja already have the title of America’s Next Drag Superstar on lock for this season? The realness of this quandary lingered in my mind as I watched last night’s episode — I literally couldn’t stop thinking that thought, which is why I’m blogging about it in the wee hours of the morning and bringing the question to you, my dear EW.com readers. The evidence as to why I think Raja is the most fierce competition this season is clear as day when you look at the three-peat of insane looks above. Don’t you agree? In these three instances, Raja is serving all kind of different things — a bloody nasty red-carpet heathen; a dorky-cool newscaster; and Marie Antoinette. What can’t she do?

Chris Harrison blogs 'The Bachelor' episode 7

chris-bachelor-padWe packed our bags, left the rain forest in Costa Rica for the beautiful CuisinArt resort on the island of Anguilla (pronounced like vanilla). Once the girls figured out where this island was they were extremely excited. I flew in on the same flight with the ladies and it didn’t take long for our cover to be blown. Tourists were quickly snapping pictures of the ladies in the St. Martin airport. Anguilla is a short boat ride away from St. Martin, and the women loved the speedboat cruise across the crystal blue ocean to our island getaway. Like in Costa Rica, we once again had the entire resort to ourselves. It makes it so much easier when the cast and crew don’t have to worry about who’s watching what we’re up to. Once the ladies got settled in their private villa, the first one-on-one date was set between Brad and Emily. There are not a lot of helicopters around this island so we had to bring one in from a different island which also means a different country. Apparently it got held up in customs, so the date was delayed. That bit where Brad and Emily sat on the bench and had a glass of champagne wasn’t planned. It was quickly improvised once we realized their transportation wasn’t coming any time soon. READ FULL STORY »

'The Bachelor' episode 7: I cannot express an opinion about tonight's episode without giving away who went home, so I won't do it here

Filed under: Reality TV, TV and tagged: , ,

Crazy night, eh rose lovers? Didn’t Anguilla look pretty? How about those beaches? As for everything else… well, I literally cannot think of anything neutral to say that will not send howls of “Spoilerrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!” reverberating across the interwebs, so I’m just going to stop talking here — other than to remind you all that if you haven’t seen tonight’s episode, don’t click through to the comments unless you want to know who got the boot. If you have seen it and are dying to debrief with other Bachelor fans, have at it below. Westminster 2011: Fred Willard reveals what he loves most about the canine competition

Everett Collection; Westminster Kennel Club

Last February, Sadie the Scottish Terrier clinched the greatest honor in all dog-dom: the title of Best in Show at at the 134th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. (She’s pictured on the right side of the photo, posing with some real estate guy.) This year, a new crop of over 2,000 pups — and their dedicated owners — will be vying to succeed her. As a wise man once said: “And to think that in some countries these dogs are eaten!” READ FULL STORY »
