Zach Galifianakis to host 'Saturday Night Live' March 12. That's one Saturday I won't be bored to death.

Zach-GalifianakisImage Credit: Dana Edelson/NBCHere’s something that is so Raven: NBC has confirmed that Zach Galifianakis is set to host Saturday Night Live‘s March 12 episode with musical guest Jessie J. This will be the Hangover Part II and Bored to Death star’s second time hosting — and, hopefully, not his last. Perhaps it’s because I’m yearning for the day when Galifianakis plays an alpaca message board surfer on the show (or Wolf Blitzer at Burning Man, since they both work) but I’m hoping that the actor eventually joins SNL‘s Five Timers Club. During his first hosting effort last year, Galifianakis proved to be a bizarre presence — something that typically doesn’t fly on the sketch show. No, while most hosts are best served appealing to the audience’s mainstream tastes by playing a background character in a recurring sketch, Galifianakis hit with an unseen character (see: “Pageant Talk“) and what might be the best monologue ever performed on Saturday Night Live. (And while Galifianakis did appear in a recurring sketches, well, he stole the show from most of the cast. Don’t believe me? Watch this lovely ridiculata.) Folks like Justin Timblerlake may serve audiences a delicious concoction of comedy while hosting SNL, but Galifianakis’ delirious mixture includes a cupful of irony, a sprig of the eccentric, and plenty of commitment. For even the most ardent of SNL haters, it’s a pretty funny recipe.

Excited for Galifianakis’ second go-round? Hoping they somehow incorporate “Between Two Ferns“? And, in case you need a reminder as to why you need to be pumped, check out his monologue embedded after the jump.

Let’s hope Zach gets to shave his beard again.

Ahem EW, you guys have still not reported that The Strokes are going to be the musical guest in a couple weeks nor have you given their first album in 5 years ANY coverage at all! What gives?

  • Mr. Holloway

I remember really liking that they sort of molded his episode to his comedic sensibility. (I also really enjoyed the filmed bit where he wandered onto the set of NBC shows).

Here’s hoping they let him run with the show again.

  • Jay

Didn’t find him very funny last time as a host…..mostly due to the terrible writers they have on the show…

  • John C.

The writing will suck and he’ll be another wasted host who had a lot of potential. The vicious cycle continues.

    • Mr. Holloway

      …don’t forget, “Kristin Wiig sucks!”

      • John C.

Well she does. I can’t wait for the Travel Channel sketch where Zach Galifianakis stands at the door not excited about winning a trip while Wiig acts like a moron. Just side splitting laughter. It’s uncomfortable laughing that hard.

      • Mr. Holloway

Oof, I’ll give you that one…that Travel Channel skit is particularly painful.

      • Anona Muss

Nonsense, Kristin Wiig is a bright, shining star that keeps SNL afloat. Bleep it, they took a good performer and used her like an old French *hore until the audience would rather watch an old French *hore.

      • Mr. Holloway

        Fair point, Anona Muss.

It’s not Wiig’s fault that, in recent years, the show has seemingly forgotten that there are other female cast members and chose to focus almost exclusively on her.

I WILL give the show credit for showcasing Nasim Pedrad and Vanessa Bayer some more this year.

Still…there’s no defending that Travel Channel skit.

      • Liam

I’d suck Kristen Wiig where the sun don’t shine and the juice runs slow like molasses over shag carpets. Mmmm, mmm, mmm! I can already pick the hair from my teeth.

      • Cris

You know, you could always … NOT watch the show.

  • Abby

SO excited! I thought he was the best host they had had in ages, and the bidet sketch is one that I’ve rewatched and quoted so many times since he hosted, which rarely happens for me with SNL sketches of the last 5-10 years.

    • Josh

Agreed! His show last year was one of my favorite SNL episodes in years. The bidet, the double sided flute, all of it was so bizarre and awesome. Cannot wait!

  • Jay

Although…after just watchin that monologue..i forgot how funny is was….like i said all of the sketches were hurting …again thanks to their pathetic writing.

  • Anona Muss

I just want to know when they’ll have Adele back on as the musical guest. I’d even watch January Jones hosting again if Adele is on.

    • Mr. Holloway

“I’d even watch January Jones hosting again if Adele is on.”

…Hey now, let’s not get ahead of ourselves and say something we’re going to regret later. :)

  • Roger

I am not officially tired of Galifanakis. He is overeposed.

    • theBigE

I hate it when people are overeposed. Better that than undereposed, I suppose.

  • Roger

    now….not not….now

    • Arne

Make me wait for it! Yessssssss, release.

  • Capt. Communist

Love SNL, love Zach, love the writing. Elton John is HOSTING in April! Suck it haters!

  • Rustinnnnnn

I hope they have a Snuggler sketch.

  • Dean

Who the eff is Jessie J?? Never heard of him/her.

    • Voice of Reason

      Buckle your seatbelts…

    • Ron Swanson

Yep, also never heard of him/her…

    • Kris

Jessie J is amazing. Search her songs, their great. You may not have heard of her, but she’s written hit songs for several artists including Rihanna, Justin Timberlake, Alica Keys and unfortuantely…Miley Cyrus.

  • redbud

More Pageant Talk! Best character study ever. “Reach for the stars because they don’t have arms to reach down to you.”

  • ollie

As long they have him in another hoda/kathie scetch

  • Justin K

The pageant skit still cracks me up! hahaha. I hope they bring that one back!
