Denise Richards on 'The View': 'This is Charlie's lifestyle. He makes no bones about it. It is what it is.'

view-denise-richardsImage Credit: Heidi Gutman/ABCDenise Richards was a guest host on The View this morning, so there wasn’t a prayer she would escape un-Sheened. When Barbara Walters broke the ice, asking about the recent difficulties of her ex-husband, Richards admitted that she wasn’t surprised by Charlie Sheen’s troubles, saying, “This is Charlie’s lifestyle. He makes no bones about it. It is what it is.” When she declined to speculate on the root cause of Sheen’s issues — suggesting politely that the ladies invite him to their show and ask him themselves — Walters attempted a different tact: What do you tell the children?

“What can you say?” Richards replied. “It’s a very difficult situation. This is something I’ve dealt with for years; this is not a new situation. There are times where his life is more colorful than others, more public than others, and as the kids get older, it’s a difficult thing. I’m learning as I go too. I have never had to deal with this, and this was a subject I had hoped to talk with my children about as they got older. But it’s hard.”

It really does come down to the children. It is just so sad to have THAT to look up to as a father figure.

    • M&M

A sperm donor isn’t the same thing as a father.

      • Katie

The problem is that this guy is acting like a father, just not a good one. A sperm donor leaves and is gone. Charlie is there. He keeps showing up, is trying to be involved, he’s just a horrible, presence in their lives.

Thanks to JEFF for the up. From the clip shown here only, DENISE RICHARDS, IMV, seems a relatively considerate woman with class as opposed to kiss-n-tell type of person. These women – – despite a certain age – – were apparently fishing in the wrong lake.

PS: Their kids are so cute; they’ve been blessed (by their God).

Those closest to him should take more responsibility for allowing his behavior. Ever watch Intervention? Stop enabling before this guy kills himself.

    • Ke

They already had many interventions for him. One was before he got Spin City. He cleaned himself up and got the show. He looks so healthy in that show. In Two and a half Men, he is really skinny and unhealthy looking. How many interventions should people have for him? His father and brother organized many of the interventions in the past. I don’t know what their involvement is with his current situation.

I know what you mean about Charlie Sheen looking “skinny and unhealthy looking” on his current TV show Two and a half men. I’ve seen the last several recent episodes of it. and I do remember him on Spin City too. I kind of liked that show.

  • Lisa

The only reason they had her on is because of Sheen’s recent problems. Denise Richards is a has been.

    • mscisluv

Though she actually came off really well here. She was diplomatic, thoughtful, etc.

      • David

I agree… Seemed like she is trying really hard as a mother… which in Hollywood is actually noteworthy

      • Dave

Totally agree … normally I find her to be vapid, annoying and pretty dumb … but she’s very diplomatic and well-spoken here. Quite impressed. (Still the WORST Bond girl ever, though!)

      • llisa

Denise is no dummy. She is “diplomatic” and doesn’t cut him off or out of the kids lives because the one that enables stays in the will!
Charlie is worth a ton of dough!
What’s best for her… er, I mean…the kids! is $$$ so she’ll continue to be his designated driver straight to the grave!

      • DJ

Feel the same as Dave, plus I’m digging the darker hair.

    • Wottadoosh

      Lisa is a neverwas.

      • Keith

        So are you…

      • Wottadoosh

        Good one.
        Keith is a nobody.

  • Stephanie T.

What I do not get is how could Denise not have known he was this way from the start? The man has serious issues.

    • LibbyP

Yes, I wondered about that, too. “This is his lifestyle” – what’s her’s? She does seem to have matured since having children – maybe the hope was that Charlie would too???

  • mm

Not a Denise Richards fan, but I have to say I admire the way she handled those questions – first and foremost, she is the mother of his children, and it seems to me that her responses were well-thought out and tactful, and in keeping with her expressed wishes to protect her children. It’s unfortunate that she has to deal with Charlie’s problems, and that his issues will undoubtedly impact his daughters in a variety of negative ways, but it would be even worse for them if their mother was out their slinging mud and contributing to the feeding frenzy surrounding Sheen’s problems.

Who would have thought she would have changed so much in the last few years? She wasn’t nearly this poised and circumspect when they were going through their spectacularly nasty divorce.

  • GeeMoney

I wonder if Sheen payed her to do damage control for him on some level…. I know she needs the money.

She’s being smart here, though. The best thing she can do for her career is try to be supportive and push the focus on her children. Maybe it will actually lead to her getting some acting roles!

    • GeeMoney

Push the focus on her children to gain sympathy, I mean. And then perhaps she’ll garner some work out of it.

      • Wottadoosh

When talking out your @ss, keep talking to yourself.

      • GeeMoney

        You are a loser, Wottadoosh.

      • Wottadoosh

I see you didn’t counter the “talking out of your @ss” thing, must’ve struck a nerve.
So you totally insult someone you don’t even know, yet can’t take it when dished back. Wuss.

      • Porter

WTF Wottadoosh. The only comments you make on here are insults to others comments? At least theirs are relevent as opposed to your snide comments. Clearly you are just a miserable person whose only enjoyment is putting down others. Enjoy your miserable little life.

    • phoenix

By the way, she doesn’t need the money. She is wealthy in her own right. Why do you spew so much hate? Does that really make you feel better? Work on yourself and try to be a happier person.

  • Brett

No properly wired man should ever need to pay a prostitute when he had a wife like Denise Richards.

    Nuff said.

    • llisa

no matter how beautiful the woman, men get tired of hittin’that.
They are are only as faithful as their options.
(great and true lines from C Rock)

      • Brooke

You have a rather dismal view of humanity.

  • Eric Foss

Denise Richards is dumb as a stump. As of late, her entire career is based upon Charlie Sheen and his problems.

Every damn time Sheen is in the news, Denise the Airhead is magically on The Today Show or Regis & Kelly or The View desperately attempting to hang on to some sense of relevancy…

    • Jenn

Maybe the issue isn’t Denise showing up everywhere. Maybe it’s that Charlie has been in the news so much. Sure, if Charlie weren’t in the news, she’d probably not have as many interviews cause the paparazzi love to stalk her for her opinion on him, I bet. But she’d probably still show up on The View as a guest host etc. I don’t see the problem as her, but as him and our societies need to bother her about him, and to report on him.

      • Eric Foss

It’s true that the public’s desire for gossip fuels the media’s interest in Denise Richards.

However, Denise is our there front and center with her agents and staffers offering her up for appearances whenever the opportunity presents itself…

  • mostboringseasonever

I thought she comported herself extremely well on the show.
She’s gone up a lot in my opinion.

  • John

He his an ABSOLUTE DISGRACE! My wife and I REFUSE to watch his show and I am appauled (sp?) that CBS continues to condone his behavior and he is the highest paid TV actor?! Seriously? He better man up and do the right thing by paying all his crew members for the fact that they are not working because of his ‘issues. Time to grow up Charlie or get lost! Take responsibility and accountability for your actions and get the help you need and fast before you end up 6 feet under.

  • John

BTW, Kudos to Denise for handling this so well. Clearly she is looking out for her kids and she should try to keep them away from their father and out of the media so they are not exposed to all of this. For goodness sakes, what kind of father figure is he?

  • lori

Why does she think she was invited to be there? Because of her huge acting career? She should have known they would only be interested in Charlie. Get a brain Denise.

  • cici217

wasn’t it just a couple of weeks ago she was making statement about how she would stay out of the limelight and not talk about him. didn’t take long for her to accept an invite to be on The View did it?
Considering how she has slept her way around HWood, why should we listen to her

  • dee123

    She’s no Mother Teresa.

  • Jenny

She’s not a stupid woman…her show was dumb but she always came across as articulate on it.
