Comedy Central will present a special edition of “John Oliver’s New York Stand-Up Show,” while Michael Ian Black, Thomas Lennon, Anthony Jeselnik, Peter Holmes, Kumail Nanjiani, Al Madrigal, and Dave Foley are also set to perform during the festival. In addition, Scott Aukerman’s “Comedy Death-Ray Radio” will be one of four comedy podcasts that will be recorded live during the week-long event.

“Standup comedy at SXSW touches on all the best things about our event,” says SXSW Managing Director Roland Swenson, in a statement. “Great comics are masters of live performance, the best story-tellers and pioneers in new media. We’re incredibly proud that so many great comics choose to join us here.”

    That’s a lot of dudes.

Wow. Tig is the only female comic. SXSW doesn’t really diversify much. Whoever booked this doesn’t have much scope.

Was thinking the same thing. That is a long list of comics and only one woman. I’m not one to make this complaint usually and I know this is a male dominated industry but I’m sure on a slate this long there is more than one talented female comedian available. I’m not saying pull a top chef and make woman look bad by trying to equalize things but seriously.

The elephant in the room being that women just aren’t that funny.

      • lori

It didn’t occur to me that someone would think that. It’s been so long since I’ve heard it. And since it’s not true.

      • Sam

Truth hurts I guess, Lori. It’s not a coincidence the vast majority of successful comedians and comedy writers are men. I wouldn’t fret too much about it though. Us women are better at multi-tasking.

What’s true? That women are not that funny? It doesn’t ring true with me since I enjoy female comedians. Maybe I’m lying to myself while I frantically multi-task. The internet is pretty vast and retarded but telling me not to fret because woman good at multi-tasking has to be the dumbest thing I’ve ever read in a comment section. Congrats.

Also, on the topic of multi-tasking, I hear texting and driving are really safe. You should try it as much as possible, Sam.

Lori – Amazing really that someone discussing a reply to a joke posting, commenting on the announcement of a comedy concert could be so thin skinned.

What nested depth do we have to reach before the remaining participants in the conversation are folks who read and either enjoy or shrug and move on, as opposed to reading and then posting that you hope the previous responder in the thread dies?

        Just asking.

      • Ronk

No no … you missed the entire point. The “I hope you die” posting was an example of the sort of “female comedy” material Lori finds so uproarious.

It’s a wonder why this stuff isn’t more popular.

Can John Oliver bring a camel to Austin and beat it to death in front of the Paramount? That would be funny.
