Who wasn’t excited to hear that Lindsay Lohan would show up in person at The Late Show with David Letterman to read a Top Ten list? Who wasn’t disappointed when the starlet backed out of the appearance? Last night, Letterman himself tried to explain the kerfuffle … and put the blame squarely on his shoulders. According to the host, after he made a Lohan-themed joke in his Grammys Top Ten list, he received a call from someone claiming to represent Lohan. Letterman: “The guys says, ‘Lindsay thought that joke was hilarious. She wants to be on your show.’ So I said, great!” (According to PopEater, the “guy” was actually Michael Lohan, clearly hoping for a repeat victory in the “Worst Father of the Decade” tournament.) “We were duped, and I have no one to blame but myself,” concludes Letterman. “I hope I didn’t embarrass you, Lindsay, and your family.” Watch video of Dave’s apology after the jump…

Don’t worry Dave, you did not embarrass the Lohans .. they have no idea what that word means.
LOL, so true, family of losers. Put a fork in it, her career is dunzo and nobody cares (and EW should not either).
It wasn’t a real apology! He was being entirely sarcastic! What’s wrong with you, EW?
hahah, I think the “embarass you and your family” was meant to be sarcastic and tongue-in-cheek. Please, this is a family with drugs, felonies, the whole kit and kaboodle of bad behaviour, this is the least of their “embarrassments”, Go Dave!!
Am I missing something here? Because I don’t understand this post at all. First of all, I’m pretty sure Letterman was being sarcastic with this apology because if anyone is to blame for any embarrassment it is certainly the Lohan family. Second of all, I don’t know anyone who is or was excited to see Lindsay Lohan on this or any other show. Can’t this ass clown just disappear already?!
You missed nothing, it WAS sarcasm, but dn’t think EW got the humour/sarcasm as EW obviously prefers to be a cheerleader for the Lindsays and Charlie addicts(never written a serious article on her fall and likely impossibility or LL rising again). I mean, she’s in the Tara Reid, Cory Helm line of “stars” yet EW treats her with kid gloves when it comes to reporting about her.
Too funny, like this is the most embarrasing thing that has happened to her?? Her whole life in the past few years have been cringe worthy.
WHO CARES (and yes, I care enough about not caring to post this message on this blog).
The only people who should be embarassed are those who bear the name ‘Lohan’ yet they’re not related to this family.
I don’t approve of anything the Lohan clan does, but I do find it terribly sad that someone who once showed such talent has been reduced to a national joke mainly because she is too young and unstable to handle the stress that was put on her. Meanwhile, Charlie Sheen, who is equally troubled (if not far, far worse) is returning to his spot as the highest paid actor on a top rated sitcom. Can we as a society please make him go away like we with Lohan?
Just when it looked like Billy Ray Cyrus might be stealing some of Michael Lohan’s Bad Father thunder, BOOM…The Return of the King!
Wow EW, you really have your finger on the pulse of pop culture. There were probably billions or trillions of people who were excited to see this incredibly talented, hard-working, appealing artist appear on TV to start her big “comeback.” And these kazillion people are now sooooo disappointed they won’t get to see more of her talent… Please, please continue to write more about “Lilo”, because we just can’t get enough of her talent and appealing personality.
Lindsy who!! Oh you mean that one time kid actor has been. Why does she even still get news, astounds me, why is she not in jail already?
It looks like EW might have a little disconnect with the blog’s readership. A little cognitive dissonance between their responsibility to report the truth, yet still having all their spinning and turd-shining going on. Oopsie.
EW readers might be getting smarter than the editors.
I think Lindsay certainly deserves everything she has coming to her. However, since when does David Letterman care if he embarasses someone?
Because I try to avoid being a typical snide message boarder who revels in the anonymity that comment sections allow, I’ll just REALLY try to give EW the benefit of the doubt. You must have known this entire video was Letterman-style sarcasm, right?
It’s hard to believe there are people in this world who care about the career of a Disney starlet. Com’on! Disney’s been ruining the lives of former child actors since they hey-day of happy slaves and singing, animated crows.
