Daniel Radcliffe in Broadway's 'How to Succeed': Behind-the-scenes footage!

Tagged:

I once took a bus to New York in the middle of a cold spell just to see Matthew Broderick in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, but Broderick was sick. His replacement? John Stamos, who was preparing to take over the role. He was, and this is the only way to describe it, dope. Now Daniel Radcliffe is trying his hand at playing ambitious window washer J. Pierrepont Finch — who shoots up the corporate ladder  with the guidance of the self-help book How to Succeed in Business — in the Tony and Pulitzer-winning musical comedy’s 50th Anniversary production, which starts previews on Feb. 26.

Will he be as good as Stamos? Well, this newly released behind-the-scenes video doesn’t tell us much, except that there are seven different watches worn in the show and, according Daniel, everything his character does is “morally reprehensible, but you support him.” He also says the experience is “very special” for him, as it should be: While Radcliffe was really superb onstage in 2008’s Equus and proved he could do comedy two years earlier on Extras, he’s never sung on Broadway before.

So does the boy have good pipes? You’d have no clue from this video, which doesn’t show him singing. But we dug up some footage of the Harry Potter alum crooning on The Graham Norton Show and in an Equus parody for charity (both are posted below), so you decide.

This is one of the reasons I miss NYC. I’d love to see this show, but I’m nearly 3,000 miles away without a lot of extra cash. DR will do great. He’s talented and works hard–an unbeatable combo.

I wish there could be a dvd made of it so other people can see it who can’t go. I know Dan will do a great job. I got to see equuse and he and the other cast members did an outstanding job on that. My friend and I got to sit in the 2nd row in the middle part.

There’s an MTV clip from the opening of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter where he sings a little bit. It was pretty good. To be honest it doesn’t require a pavorati quality voice.
