Why isn't Adam Scott on this week's 'Parks and Recreation' cover? The answer is...

adam-scottImage Credit: Naomi ScottWhen Parks and Recreation fans grab this week’s issue of EW from their mailboxes/ neighborhood newsstands/ dog’s mouths, they likely will exclaim, “Wow! The cast of my favorite show is literally on the cover!” And then, in a state of euphoric shock, they will gaze at the glorious photo for hours before they suddenly scratch their heads and wonder: “Wait a second… where’s Adam Scott?”

Believe us, we think great things about Adam Scott. We even use Scott tissues to feel closer to him. And we tried our darndest to include him in our L.A.-based photo shoot, but there were forces of nature working against all of us. A snowstorm ended up tying Scott down in New York, where he’s shooting Friends with Kids, a big-screen comedy starring Jon Hamm and Megan Fox. (Fear not, our feature story inside the magazine contains quotes from him.) Here is Scott’s official — and quite creative — statement that he sent to EW:

Being a lifelong New Yorker (I grew up in Northern California and live in Los Angeles), when Entertainment Weekly called and begged me to be on the cover of their magazine (the show I’m on, Parks and Rec, was going to be on the cover, and thus I would ride its coattails) and that the shoot would be anywhere but Manhattan, I, of course, said no (yes).

To even consider leaving my fair city (I’ve never lived here) makes me literally vomit (not literally, actually not at all). So the decision was easy: I’d triumphantly stay in New York (I’m working on a movie here, and due to a giant storm, all flights were cancelled) while my fellow castmates mug it up in EW (I’m a subscriber). Victory (devastation)!!!

Mine (yours),

Nick Offerman (Adam Scott)

Should be community on the cover. *pouty face*

    • Alison

      This

      • eyeheartnyc

While I am really happy they made the cover, it made me a little sad that AD never made the cover while it was on the air.

      • The Truth

The Black chick and Jerry have more cred than Adam Scott.
        Where are their pity articles?

      • hoganbcmj

ha! “The Black chick and Jerry have more cred than Adam Scott.
        Where are their pity articles?”

        What he/she said!

      • yao

Dear, there is a MYSTERIOUS place for wealthy singles looking for attractive and/or wealthy partners in loving, committed relationships. Maybe you want to try—-M’illion’aireS’ocial.℃○M—– Good luck!.0002

    • Josh

Double this, though I love Park and Rec.

    • Beck

      Agreed!

      • DTO

Wait for your own damn cover. I love Community, too, but you act like there aren’t 52 weeks in a year or something.

    • Dawn

We will keep waiting. And waiting… And waiting… Community will never be on the cover of EW, not when they need to reserve most of them for Johnny Depp, Twilight, Harry Potter, Glee, Tina Fey, Angelina Jolie, Robert Downey Jr, etc. The fact that P & R is on the cover strikes me as something of a small miracle. Yay for P & R fans!

      • Chris

I agree except for Tina Fey. Parks & Rec has become a close second but 30 Rock is still the best show on tv and any Tina Fey mentions are well deserved.

      • a

Oh gee, could it be that those faces actually sell the magazine. Community is not a popular show, so it shouldn’t be rocket science that it doesn’t make the EW cover…

      • Nikki

Well………….if it were on the cover of magazines, then maybe more people would start watching it….it’s called exposure. :P

    • conditionals

Geez, give Parks & Rec a chance to shine (for once). It’s important that it’s getting so much attention after being forced to mid-season. Community is much more publicly lauded than Community (check metacritic’s yearly critics’ TV awards, etc), and I’m sure they will have a cover soon enough.

      • Andrew

Agreed with the comments about letting P&R shine for once. It’s extremely overlooked as far as the Thursday night lineup goes, and I think Community gets plenty of recognition (every Friday even with Joel McHale’s weekly pimping of it on The Soup). Amy Poehler + co. are a fantastic cast and P&R definitely deserves this recognition.

      • Maddie

I’ve know about Parks and Rec since it first premiered. I had not ever heard of Community until their add during the 2010 Emmy’s, if you don’t go looking for it you could go through life not knowing Community existed. While I didn’t even start watching P&R until the third season started I knew about it not being good at first and getting better and the stink about it not getting a fall pick up. I never heard absolutely anything about Community until the ad and hearing Betty White was going to be in the second season premier.
Now I’m not trying to say anything bad about P&R (in fact its my second favorite show) but in my opinion it gets way more exposure than will Community will probably ever get.

    • hen

      This squared. Community rocks!

….as does the equally funny PAR.

    • adrian

      agreed.

    • Alan

Kind of ironic because isn’t EW based in New York?

    • Yngwie Mackadangdang, Jr.

“Wow! The cast of my (second) favorite show is literally on the cover!”
So yeah. Where is the love for Community, EW?

    • TGH

‘Community’ is great, don’t get me wrong – but as good as ‘Parks and Rec’? Come on, nothing is right now. It’s fresh, intelligent, relevant, and (most importantly) hilarious! It totally warrants a cover – I just never thought it would happen.

    • The Truth

      Adam Scott is Milquetoast.
Worst character on the show by far. He brings nothing to the table.

This article is BS. Nobody cares.

    • BJG

I don’t know about that. I love Community. Especially when they satire popculture like zombie movies or space adventure movies. But Parks and Rec is also super funny, and it wasn’t on the Fall schedule.

    • melissa

YES please have Community on the cover!

  • cinephilesandra

Annnnnnnnnnd now I’m even MORE in love with him. *Swooooooooon!*

  • MCS

He should get his own cover now as compensation. The letter was hilarious. I miss Party Down.

    • v

      God I miss Party Down!!!

    • jasmine

GREAT IDEA! listen to MCS ew!

    • Kaiulani

Party Down should have been on EW’s cover, then maybe it would have had a chance for a few more seasons.

  • E.

Didn’t think it was possible to love Adam Scott any more than I already do. I was wrong! Adorable statement.

    • elena

Ditto. I’m seriously in love with this man. I’m eternally grateful to the TV gods that he got a full-time gig on Parks and Rec, because Party Down’s cancellation almost killed me…

    • Three Dollar Bill

I never thought I’d ever say this but here goes: Rob Lowe has always been, and still remians, one of the most physically blessed specimens of manhood to ever walk the Earth. But if I was forced to chose between him or Adam Scott, I’d chose Scott, hands down.

      • Marshall1

haha, I agree with you about Lowe…but Scott is ADORABLE!!!
Btw, if I remember correctly, only Tina Fey was ever on the cover, but NOT the whole cast of 30 Rock, so don’t feel bad, bitter Community fans!!

    • Alli

      Amen!!!

    • Asha

Seriously. He’s so cute on P&R with his little jacket. This made me love him like a thousand times more.

      • erin

don’t forget about those skinny ties he wears!! I seriously love him too.

    • Alana

Same here. I love him even more now!

  • LOL

Even so, it’s still a great cover.

  • Mae

    i love him.

  • Libby

I’ll allow this as a valid reason

  • holly

Love Adam Scott. Gorgeous guy and top comedy actor. Wasted on Parks to be honest. He’s playing the straight man. He’s too funny for that.

    • Johnification

He IS too funny to be just the straight man, so I encourage you to re-look at your comment now that tonight’s ep has aired.

    • jk

wasted??? parks and rec is great and he is great on it. how can it be a waste if he can show how versatile he is as an actor???

    • Bobo

I worried that might be the case but last night’s episode revealed that they are slowly revealing his character’s comic utility. His awkwardness trying to schmooze the police turned into the (wry, understated) highlight of the episode.

  • Eshia

I want Adam Scott to be my Valentine!!!

  • Foxer

I love him very, very much. He’s awesome on Parks and Recs but it was The Vicious Kind that made me love him the 2nd very.

    • sally

I loved the vicious kind! what a great movie! I became a fan than and there! I’m glad somebody else saw it.

  • Dave

This guy is awesome! His letter is hilarious.

  • ellie

I second MCS that he should now get his own cover!

  • tracy bluth

Megan Fox does not deserve to be in a flick with the amazing duo of Adam Scott and Jon Hamm.

    • Allison

I kind of did a double take when I read Megan Fox’s name as well.

    • …..

      shut up!!!!!

  • Johnny D

I’m a straight male, but he’s officially on the man-crush list after that.
