The newly 18-year-old Miley Cyrus chatted with Marie Claire magazine, speaking extensively for the first time since her parents announced their intention to divorce. And, for the first time since she was recorded smoking from a bong.
Cyrus was contrite about the videotaped inhaling, which involved the legally-sold herb salvia. When reminded that there are plenty of teenagers out there puffing on more serious fumes, she responded, “But they’re not Miley Cyrus… They’re not role models. So for me it was a bad decision, because of my fans and because of what I stand for.”
But what does she stand for? Is she referring to her pristine tween image built and paid for by Disney? The kind of image that still allows her to say her goal for the new year is to “spread love and change the world” with total sincerity? Cyrus, who reportedly earned $48 million last year, also talked about two of her upcoming movies, So Undercover (with pal Kelly Osbourne), and LOL (with Demi Moore), of which she says, “It’s what I’m most proud of.”
The March issue of Marie Claire hits newsstands Feb. 15.
Did you get the impression the writer, Kimberly Cutter, just wanted to hug Cyrus and say, “It’s going to be all right”? Is it, PopWatchers? What do expect from Cyrus in 2011 — you know, besides the spreading of love?

How perfect you must be! Such a rarity today! By the way, what is it that you do?…and is anybody paying to see you do it?….I think not! Miley is barely 18…she should be allowed to experience life , just as we all have, without being beaten up by negative comments like yours. You probably contributed to Lindsey Lohan’s lack of self esteem also by posting and tweeting negatives instead of positives! If a human being makes a mistake, especially a young person,…encourage them…don’t try to kick them when they’re down. With Miley’s parents divorce and growing up Disney..it cannot be easy for a kid to be a kid. No, they want & expect her to be a ROLE Model. What a pressure that must be, and how ridiculous is that for a kid to be a role model? It allows no time for their own stages of evolution (including the pitfalls,of trying marijuana, alcohol, sex, or whatever). Most of us experience these things in the comfort of obscurity. Child Stars like Miley, Britney, & Lindsey fall under the unforgiving eyes of the media….and the world. Show some Compassion and remember your own teen years..or that of your children and post good wishes rather than hurtful criticism!
What does it say, though, about all the “good values” Cyrus supposedly has, if she’s smoking even a legal hallucinogen from a bong? Considering all the adoration, money and family support she has, it’s really sad that she made a conscious choice to do drugs. Is her life REALLY worse than all the young people who decide to “just say no”?

That is so shallow..Is her life really that bad? Who knows. We are not her. People are so quick to judge her. No not what I would do or want my kid to do , but I have control of what she watches. Yes, she liked Hannah Montana, but it was my responsibility to explain, in my opinion it was a mistake that Im sure she regrets. But I wont be renting MC new videos since shes grown up and apparently her image is changing from that I feel appropriate for my 12 yo…my responsibility.

If anyone thinks that was actually salvia, they should be labeled “severely retarded.” Salvia-smokers can’t really form coherent sentences and typically collapse on the floor while drooling on themselves. They’re just calling it salvia because it’s legally sold in stores and her peeps want to avoid a publicity disaster like Michael Phelps had. Lying in this manner is worse than actually smoking a big joint and being honest about it.

Very true. When me and my friends did salvia NONE of us could even speak properly, let alone remember anything once the trip ended three minutes later. NEVER AGAIN. It’s THAT crazy.

“puffing on more serious fumes”? I suppose in the sense of legal versus illegal, this is true. Marijuana is illegal and salvia isn’t. But just because it’s legal, does not make salvia a non-serious drug. In terms of what it can do to you–it can be a much MORE serious drug than marijuana!
Having said that, I think there are few teenagers/young adults (college age kids) who don’t experiment. And IMO, alcohol can also me more serious than marijuana.
