That “apology” was pretty tooly. I’ve enjoyed Idol’s other cold opens, but meh to this one. (Especially since Ryan hyped it on his show — rather anticlimactic.)
What exactly were they apologizing for?
Did anyone else think that Randy dropped an F-bomb in the show? “Fucking breath of fresh air” Or did he say “Like a breath of fresh air”?
I distinctly heard an “F”.
I thought they were joking? Why would they show that part after if they were serious?…the rhyming of the F word.
That was really silly. That wasn’t an apology, nor was an apology needed. It was a spoof and a lame one at that. Despite that, I think there were only a hanful of decent contestants from Austin. Hopefully L.A will prove to give a few more standouts than Austin did.
Did the girl who sang At Last by Etta James Make it to the next rounds? I missed it when they came back to commercial…Also can someone tell me what other song did she sing?
Yup. She sang “The Climb” by Miley Cyrus. I didn’t think it was that much better, but Randy changed his “no” to a “yes” and the other two said “yes” as well.
I’m with Jean. I didn’t think The Climb was that improved from At Last, in fact, she was at least twenty bars in before I even realized she was singing a different song. Hopefully she gets some voice lessons/coaching between auditions and Hollywood or she’s going to be a very easy decision to send home after the first cut.
She did have nice timbre and sweetness to her voice…the first song I think Jennifer could see that she was trying to impress but didn’t really know the song. It was kind to give her a second shot and she did stay in tune even while crying for the whole first verse. She kinda lost it after that when it was the chorus and after pausing for a minute to cry. Will she go much further, Not a chance…BUT I think they really mean it when they say they like to mold and mentor talent, and they feel they can help her to the next level in Hollywood. Next year she could be a much stronger presence in the show.
@Heidi
I agree. There is a sweet quality to this girl. I’ll also say I was impressed when about halfway through The Climb she got teary again and bobbled a bit but immediately pulled herself together and brought it home. For a fact she’s not competition ready this year, but you’re right, with the right coaching and encouragement she could very well come back awesome next year.
oh she will not last long at all. both songs were pretty terrible, to be honest.
Yea she did, she sang the climb
This blog is as boring as the show is this evening. Is anyone else flipping over to Paula’s show?
Nope
God no!!! I don’t miss her blithering commentary in the least!
Paula Who?
Nick and Jacqueline – cutest couple, great singers. Hope things go well for them in Hollywood. Would have loved to have heard them sing together, but that’s probably for another show.
HURL!
…seriously?
LOLing at J.Lo’s Venus razor ad. If only they could have figured out a way to product-place that one into the show!
I don’t think they should have sent the crying girl on to Hollywood. It would have been kinder to tell her that she has a beautiful voice but she needs to work on it another year and come back. She’s not ready yet.
i just turned it off. i had it enough of it for now. but i have to say that couple were so cute!
the couple were one of and fakest things i’ve seen on television since last week’s episode of jersey shore. they were atrocious and I hope they get cut immediately.
that was not fake, idiot. nick is one of my friends…they ARE, however, both musical theatre people.
The apology was unnecessary Steven Tyler is the best thing that has happened to American Idol in 10 years keep up the good work.
Damn Right! Tyler has been a breath of fresh air vs. all the hot-air of the last few seasons.
I think it was a joke.
It wasn’t a joke. He’s awesome.
Floved John Wayne. A cowboy. A gentleman. Great voice. Good looking. Loves his mother. What more could we want? Also loved Janelle. I think she may have the “it” factor. The others were varying degrees of meh to good.
John and Scotty have been my favorites so far.
Idol would KILL to have a male country singer win because they know that country crossover singers can rake in millions, and popular country singers have very long careers. I don’t know if he’s good enough to win, but he’s a real cowboy, is a heart throb type, and can sing so he’s the “whole package.” He’d really have to step it up to win though, but this is a guy they’d love to have win for the windfall they’d get.
I’m not normally into blondes, but Janelle was beautiful, and sang well too.
really disappointed in tonights episode. the talent save for one or two was mediocre and some of the backstories were cringeworthy and fake. eugh.
this season is really refreshing and I’m loving the vibe of the new judges but tonight’s episode was easily the worst of the season so far.
LOVED THE INCEPTION TRAILER MUSIC ON NEXT WEEK’S PREVIEW HAAHA.
Love Steven Tyler, J Lo not so much, liked the last guy with the little keyboard. He was the best of the night.
He was pretty darn impressive.
After hearing the auditions from Austin, I don’t think this year’s winner will be from there. Too many good performances but none that “woo’ed” me into believing that I heard this year’s winner. Although, my favorite one would have to be the girl from Tennessee talking about country living and how people think that country “folk” are barefooted and have no teeth and also the very last guy with the keyboard flask instrument was very unique and impressive.
I was sure the couple was a joke. Especially after I heard them sing.
That was about the second most annoying audition I’ve ever seen.
There were several I liked though, the John Wayne guy, Janelle from TN, and the very last guy. Who wants to bet that the Ryan creeper either flames out in Hollywood week or ends up the one that lasts too long and people love to hate?
Who still watches this crap?
I do. That’s one.
*sigh* stop, LOL. yes it’s crap, but over 20 million people watch it every time it’s on.
who comments on stuff they don’t even watch?
