As much as I would love to begin this week’s blog by talking about the cardigan I wore last week or the driveway being wet, Read the full post.

Great episode, but there was NO need to put Emily through that gut wrenching date. The producers knew her late fiance was a NASCAR driver. How low must they go for ratings? Emily is a class act, way too good for most men, and deserves better than to have her emotions splashed all over a racetrack. There better be an amazing date for her to compensate for what went down last night.

  • sixgun1965

Yeah, as if cretins like you and Fleiss take “Brad’s wishes” into account over cheap ratings-grabbing events. That was not a “beautiful moment”, that was the last part of your humanity sliding down the sewer, Chris.

Michelle’s an actress. She seems to be hamming it up for the cameras. It’s working and earning her screen time. I can see why Brad likes her, because she does observe the other women and give him the opposite. Cracked up last night with the interview on Shawntel’s date. Brad laughing, had me laughing and I watched it several times and laughed my head off. Not a lot of chemistry there, but what a great friend. Chantal’s gotta stop that annoying crying. Forntunately for her, Brad may be the only guy in America who can stand it. Suck it up and put some big girl pants on. Previews of future shows show her crying more. As for Emiy, I don’t think a former commitment phobic guy is really going to setttle down for somone with a kid – no matter what he says. She just doesn’t seem that into him either. Glad to see Chris getting some wardrobe assistance this week and reclaiming the land of dressing normal.

Yes on the improved Chris look, no on the lack of chemistry between Shawntel and Brad. Am I the only one that thinks it’s great for a couple to be friends before they move into romance and making out?

      • Jenna

I agree with you Shania. My hubby and I were best friends first and our relationship is stronger for it. Why do people think friendship is a curse for romance?

lose the therapist talk. boring, waste of time!

    • bach fan

Yes!!! Please lose the therapist talk and replace it with footage of the girls at the house.

      • Jenna

        +1. Therapist is b-o-r-i-n-g.

Another very viable option would have been to tell Emily about the date and give her the option of going or even talking to Brad about it in advance (and still would have made good TV if that was the goal). A lot of stuff is done on the Bachelor for shock value, but this really made me ill given that the producers knew her story.
The theory of letting “true” emotions come out has a lot of holes in it considering that this whole process is not even close to what happens in “true” life. How often does someone ever blindly get in a car to go on a date to an undisclosed location? Let alone somewhere that touches such a raw, sad part of them with absolutely no warning.
I love you, Chris, but you guys are so lucky Emily did find the positive in this because otherwise you would have all come across as real jerks. So, of course, now everyone can be like- look, it wasn’t insensitive, It made brad and emily stronger!
    Chrissssss- I am so disappointed!!!

    • R3

You know Emily would have said “Sure, bring it on” whether she genuinely felt comfortable or not. I believe she is just that type of person. Until now I have been hoping she would be the next Bachelorette. Now I think The Bachelor/ette enterprise doesn’t deserve her. They’ve exploited her enough for one lifetime.

    • Julie

I am very impressed with the way Emily handled herself on that date. What a true class act!

    • Halle

      @moog — great points!

    • Shania

      Emily = Boring.

  • Barb

The worst part about the exploitation of Emily is that Brad will dump her because of her “baggage” and she would have gone through that whole traumatizing ride around the track for nothing, not to mention as others have said, endangering herself and others for “ratings”. At 24 years old, she if heads above the other girls in maturity and class. She is a lovely woman and deserves a wonderful man and I’m thinking that’s not Brad; although, he is a nice guy, he is too shallow for this type of soulful relationship.

  • jeanine

they NEED to cut out the “therapy” (fake and staged and plastic feeling) sessions and then they’d have time to show the deliberations with you–which is what everyone wants to see anyway!

    • Halle

      Yes!

  • KeshaB

I am SO over Michelle! She spends too much time trying to convince him that the other girls are not right for him when what she should be doing is building something more than a physical relationship with him….not to mention, I think she’s nuts! :o )

  • Georgine

Chris, you do a great job.

It is great that you remember the OSU 10.

    • wake up Chris

yea if I was his wife I would be SUPER proud after watching last night and reading the blog this morning. Oh wait…he probably lies to her as well.

      • sixgun1965

He especially lies to her about the time he spent with ex-producer Ryan Callahan’s wife in New Zealand. Oops, I mean the time he spent IN Ryan Callahan’s wife!

  • Nicole

Couldn’t help but notice that Shawntel ditched the heels for flip flops. Smart girl! Do the producers give the girls a heads up to bring extra shoes or clothes for the dates? I noticed on the (much debated) Nascar date that all the girls were wearing boots out of the limo and sneakers once in the race gear.

Clearly I was focusing on the shoes this week…

Thank you for remembering the Ten! It’s something every OSU alum carries with them!

  • SLB

“Emily is really ready to take that next step”. That’s why the previews last night made it look like Brad was having second thoughts about her. Brad knows everything now? Does he know Michelle is an actress and is there for her 15 minutes? He definitely picks the wrong Chantal.

  • Isabelle Gagnon

Hi Chris. I’ve been addicted to your show for years, but I find this season boring. So much time is spent on Michelle, Emily and Chantal that some girls we don’t get to know at all, such as Lisa, Marissa, Britt. Also, on the 2-on-1 date, we didn’t get to hear any conversation or see how they interacted. We get so much narration by Michelle, so much repetition about Emily’s story, rehearsals for musicals or action movie scenes that we’re not getting a feeling of how their relationships are developing, how they interact. Bad editing choices in my opinion. I’m sure the good stuff ends up on the cutting room floor, so to speak. Please don’t forget that’s why we watch: for the relationships and interactions.

    • R3

I agree. The show has become way too focused on what they are doing (or where they are going or how they are getting there) on the dates than the actual interactions. The only “interactions” we get to see are the ones that are set up to milk drama, such as Michelle (the season’s black hat) and Emily (the white hat).

      • Shania

Totally agree. I want to see some fun stuff, not just women crying and Brad looking uncomfortable.

  • Daphalina

I understand that you may have chosen the dates in advance and that was why NASCAR was set up. Still, it was tacky at best and cruel at worst to include Emily. Emily was too sweet to make a scene, but really you should be ashamed of yourselves. Give the girl a break. I think you could have made a little production magic happen so that she didn’t have to go through that experience on television. I’m very disappointed that you see that as “good TV”.

  • Ashley

The Emily Date: I am bored to death of Emily and am at the point where I fast forward through her bland, repetitive scenes. God, please don’t let her be the next Bachelorette. With that said, that date was the lowest of the low for ABC. A coincidence? My behind. It was planned for ratings. Do not insult our intelligence by claiming otherwise.

Michelle. I thought she was psycho at first but now see that it is all in the editing. You see moments of the real Michelle at times. Even the other girls who gave interviews after being booted admit she is a sweet lady. Every season has to have the villain. This season it’s Michelle. But it’s just an editing thing.

    • Shania

Agree totally. Her TV spots are just hilarious too, the way she snarks at the other women and talks about beating them up. Totally cartoonish, surprised anyone takes them for real. They give her more camera time because she’s the most entertaining, although Shawntel really picked it up this week.

  • Laura

Chris, you want to know our opinion on Michelle? Well, to be quite honest… my husband has it right… He has been watching it with me these last few weeks and he likes to call her the “pornstar” personality. Not as a dig at her sexual history – but at the way she pulls Brad in, hooks him, and never lets him go. She knows exactly what she needs to say and do to keep him there, and to keep the other girls at bay. I’m glad the girls are focusing on Brad and not on the other girls when they are talking to him – cause jealousy is never attractive – but I almost wish Brad could see some of the behind the scenes conversations that these girls have… specifically Michelle. But I predict she sticks around a little while longer…. I just hope for Brad’s sake that it’s not forever…
