Adam Sandler on Leno: Lies, darn lies

Adam Sandler was on The Tonight Show last night, joking about his rumored demise, Just Go With It, and the fun of filming in Hawaii. I could almost forgive his signature extreme casual dress, but bunchy white sweat socks?! They make lightweight casual socks, Adam. If you’re going to wear glorified pajamas and slippers on television, at least do it in the comfort of things that fit correctly.

I grew up worshiping Adam Sandler. I listened to They’re All Gonna Laugh At You, What The Hell Happened to Me, and What’s Your Name over and over and over. I’m pretty sure I can still recite “The Talking Goat” verbatim, and I can’t put on a sweatshirt without thinking “I love you sweaaaaatshirt. [Whatever color] sweaaaaaatshirt.” There’s a part of me will always find Sandler funny, whether or not I can sit through one of his less-inspired movies. Just seeing him on The Tonight Show — joking, loose, seemingly having an okay time — brought a flicker of joy to my heart.

Are there comedians or stars you developed an early allegiance to, PopWatchers, that makes them impervious to objective criticism or box-office failures? And don’t you wish Sandler would host SNL in the near future? I feel like there’s got to be one more Opera Man sketch to be had….

Margaret, Adam relaxed and on his own is so much better than 80% of his movies. “Just Go With It”, “Grown Ups” and “I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry” are not only deadly unfunny: they are boring.
Adam has shown that he has the “good stuff” in movies like “Punch Drunk Love” and “Reign Over Me”, and he even pokes fun at his own horrible track record in “Funny People”.
I guarantee you that Adam doesn’t really care for most of his own movies, but he has reached a level of such success that he is too comfortable to makes a significant change – and that word, “comfort”, is death to comedy.

It’s probably a little bit different because he’s not as known for stand-up, but I feel total allegiance to Seth Rogen thanks to “Freaks and Geeks” and “Undeclared.” I honestly think it’s because how awesome he is in the DVD commentaries for those two shows, and the fact that he’s a writer too. I feel like people are really quick to attack him/are sort of burnt out on him, but I just love him.

The obvious one is Chris Rock. He killss it in his standup act and on talk shows but his movies are terrible. I kind of liked “Everybody Hates Chris”, though.

Jennifer Aniston. I don’t care when her movies flop. I still love her.

I’m loyal to Sandler.. All the way! Loved his CD’s as a kid.. Loved The orignal 4 (Happy Gilmore, Bill Madison, Waterboy and Little Nicky)they are all classics to me.. Some of his new stuff is just ok, though I liked Grandma’s boy ( wasn’t in it but still his movie)

For me, it’s Jimmy Fallon. He was my imaginary boyfriend when he was on SNL, and I still love him lol

I love Adam Sandler but he hasn’t been funny since The Wedding Singer and the only good movie since was 50 First Dates. I did like Punch Drunk Love but miss the Adam Sandler of Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, and SNL.

It may not be cool, but I love Will Ferrell. I watch all his movies on opening weekend. I still find him hilarious and I think always will.

I don’t know what’s worse, the fact that Sandler is making these crap movies or that he’s winning People’s Choice Awards for them.
