Where have you gone, Robert Redford? A nation turns its lonely eyes to you -- and Warren Beatty and Gene Hackman.

Redford-Beatty-HackmanImage Credit: Andrew Wilson/PR Photos; David Gabber/PR Photos; Evan Agostini/Getty ImagesRobert Redford, Duke of Sundance, tells ABC that many people erroneously think he doesn’t want to act in movies anymore. “Something is happening over the years that makes a lot of people think that I don’t do this anymore, when the truth is, it’s what I enjoy most,” he said to Peter Travers.

Redford, 74, directed and co-starred in Lions for Lambs (2007), but it’s true that the 1970s heart-throb has been less active in front of the camera in the last 10 years, making only three films. As someone who grew up watching — and re-watching — The Natural, who reveres All the President’s Men, and who considers Spy Game one of the most underrated films of the young century, I hope the film projects he discussed with Travers come to fruition. 'Jersey Shore': Sammi-Ronnie punch raises a double standard

jersey-shore-punchImage Credit: MTVTry as you might to black out every single episode of Jersey Shore you’ve ever watched, it’s hard to forget one particular moment from late 2009. MTV, running a promo for an upcoming episode of Jersey Shore, showed a piece of footage that had everyone gasping in disgust: Snooki got punched. Viewers were outraged (though some were disturbingly tickled), claiming the network was using footage of criminal assault in order to boost ratings. MTV, in turn, listened to their critics, and agreed to pull the scene showing the violence from the episode: “After hearing from our viewers, further consulting with experts on the issue of violence, and seeing how the video footage has been taken out of context to not show the severity of this act or the resulting consequences, MTV has decided not to air Snooki being physically punched in next week’s episode,” the network said in December 2009. T-Pain gets a Facebook tattoo. Okay, sure.

Filed under: Music and tagged: ,

T-Pain got a Facebook tattoo, which he tweeted about last night. Hey, a sentence that would have been completely meaningless just a few years ago! Anyway, yeah, T-Pain totally got a Facebook tat, writing “I think this ones pretty sweet, unless facebook shuts down soon 0_o.”

Look, everyone’s tattoo seems dumb to someone, and the whole point of this ink is, ostensibly, to show off T-Pain’s imperviousness to outside opinion. So even if I were to give it a big thumbs down, or :( times infinity, it wouldn’t really matter. Plus it has nothing on Gucci Mane’s ice cream cone face tattoo.

So go ahead, PopWatchers. Thumbs up?

What's TV's best vampire death scene?

Angel-Lullaby-Darla-deathFans of The Vampire Diaries are still drying their eyes after last night’s episode. I won’t spoil it for you here. (Read our recap.) The events that unfolded at the end of the hour made me wonder what is the best vampire death scene I’ve ever witnessed on TV. What gets your vote? The first one that came to my mind was SPOILER ALERT CIRCA 2001, pregnant Darla (Julie Benz) staking herself to instantly deliver Connor in season 3 of Angel. I just never thought of it before: She dissolves into ashes, and the baby remains. Heartbreaking and cool. Your turn.

James Cameron joins Twitter. And it's already available in 3-D.

James-Cameron-on-TwitterImage Credit: Mark FellmanBREAKING NEWS: Ryan Seacrest just convinced James Cameron to join Twitter. While we all prepare to survive the harmonic convergence of this moment that will inexorably lead to the Internet gaining sentience and becoming Skynet, here are some fun facts we can already glean from the King of the World’s entrée into the universe of social media:  READ FULL STORY »

'Storage Wars': Raise your hand if you're inexplicably addicted

storage-warsImage Credit: Emily Shur/A&EThe concept of A&E’s Storage Wars is incredibly simple. Unpaid storage lockers go up for auction, and the four profiled buyers mine them for valuable goods (and basically anything that can earn them a few bucks in resale at their respective thrift stores). In fact, in theory, it sounds kind of boring. After accidentally spending three separate Saturdays marathoning this show in the last month’s time, I can declare that presumption false. Mark Zuckerberg, please do a cameo on 'SNL' this weekend

Filed under: TV and tagged: , ,

mark-zuckerbergsImage Credit: Kim White/Getty Images; Merrick Morton; Dana Edelson/NBCMark Zuckerberg might make a cameo on the Jesse Eisenberg-hosted Saturday Night Live this weekend, according to the New York Post. Do it, Zuck! Do it. NBC had no comment, and Facebook didn’t respond to our inquiry.

Being able to laugh at oneself on SNL is a hallmark of both good sportsmanship and mainstream megacelebrity. Andy Samberg has already shown off a pretty great Zuckerberg impression, so it seems like the natural thing to do is to have all three do a Weekend Update segment together, no? That, or have Zuckerberg dress up as Aaron Sorkin and take some potshots. Either way, count me in.

Wave your magical Lorne Michaels wand, PopWatchers, and let’s hear it: What would you have the Facebook founder do on SNL this weekend?

Girl Scouts might cut back to just the classic cookies. Begin hoarding ... now.

girl-scout-cookiesImage Credit: Getty ImagesGirl Scout Cookie season is upon us, but according to a panic-inducing article in the Wall Street Journal, “a dozen Girl Scouts councils are testing out a plan to hawk just six different cookies.” You can pry my Samoas from my cold, dead, coconut-covered hands, Girl Scouts of America!

But of course they’re not discontinuing Samoas. Or Thin Mints. Or Tagalongs, or Do-Si-Dos, or Trefoils. (Or Lemon Chalets, even though bleh, please feel free to discontinue those.) They’re just getting rid of the cookie-come-lately flavors, like Dulce De Leche (good, not great), Thank U Berry Munch, All Abouts, and the other varieties no one bought very much of. Enjoy the long slumber, subpar chocolate chip cookie of sadness. When I was a Girl Scout, no one really cared about you anyway. READ FULL STORY »

'The Rite,' 'The Mechanic,' 'No Strings Attached'? Which will you see this weekend? (Box Office Poll)

Tagged:

If Jason Statham played a gun-toting priest in a film based on true events, you’d probably want to see that movie, right? Well, that will never happen. But if you go see The Rite and The Mechanic in a double-bill of “Films where callow young men learn a dangerous job from a bald Englishmen,” your brain might just fuse both movies into one beautiful mash-up. (The Right Mechanic!) EW’s Keith Staskiewicz thinks The Rite will carry the weekend box office, with last week’s No Strings Attached a distant second and The Mechanic an even-more-distant third. (Never doubt the eternal appeal of Anthony Hopkins acting freaky.) That leaves The Green Hornet and The King’s Speech at the bottom of the top five. READ FULL STORY »
