Robert Pattinson to star in David Cronenberg's 'Cosmopolis.' Why am I wishing he'd Twi-lighten up?

Robert-PattinsonImage Credit: James Devaney/WireImage.comOh, how cute! Our little Twilight stars are growing up: Today we learned Robert Pattinson has officially selected his first major post-Twilight project. According to Deadline, the mop-topped one has signed on to star in David Cronenberg’s adaptation of Don DeLillo’s Cosmopolis. (The film’s production company, Alfama Films, confirmed the casting on their website.) The book, which is heavily set in a limousine, follows a financial whiz who’s diverted by several events — some dreary, some sexy, and some career-killing — while on his way to get a haircut.  READ FULL STORY »

Matt Damon to receive Critics' Choice award, but when will he direct?

Filed under: Movies and tagged: , ,

Matt-DamonImage Credit: Charles Eshelman/FilmMagic.comThe Broadcast Film Critics Association announced today that Matt Damon will receive its Joel Siegel Award on Jan. 14 at the 16th annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards. Damon appeared in three high-profile films in 2010, including the Coen brothers’ current hit Western True Grit, as well as Clint Eastwood’s Hereafter and Paul Greengrass’ Green Zone. I specifically mention the directors because since Damon burst upon the scene with 1997′s Good Will Hunting, he’s shrewdly partnered up with an impressive string of accomplished directors for what his pal Ben Affleck has called “the world’s greatest apprenticeship”: Gus Van Sant, Steven Spielberg, Anthony Minghella, Robert Redford, Steven Soderbergh, Greengrass, Terry Gilliam, Martin Scorsese, Robert De Niro, Eastwood, and the Coens, just to name a few.  READ FULL STORY »

James Van Der Beek: I was well aware of 'crying Dawson'

JAMES-VAN-DER-BEEKJames Van Der Beek says we’ve just seen the beginning of “Van Der Week” on Funny or Die. First there was James Van Der Meems. Then there was A–hole For Hire. And coming up later this week? “Me endorsing a line of DILF khakis,” he laughs.

“I’d been poking around [Funny or Die], laughing at all the stuff, and I wanted to join in,” he tells EW. One of the writers there tentatively said, ‘I don’t know if you know this, but there’s a five-second GIF of you crying?’ And I said, ‘Oh, I’m well aware of it.’ READ FULL STORY »

The world listens in awe to a homeless Ohio man

Filed under: News, Reality TV and tagged: ,

An Ohio homeless man named Ted Williams is the darling of the Internet today after a YouTube video captured the wild-haired man’s golden radio voice. A former DJ, Williams fell on hard times in the mid 1990s and ended up on the side of I-71 and Hudson Street in Columbus, holding a hand-made sign that began, “I have a God-given gift of voice.” Doral Chenoweth III of the Columbus Dispatch taped Williams for his story, and before you could say “Susan Boyle,” Williams was a star. What a voice! It almost makes you feel obligated to do or say something monumental, just to warrant his narration. READ FULL STORY »

My mom really, really didn't like 'Black Swan.' What movies do you wish you'd warned your parents about?

black-swanImage Credit: Niko TaverniseSo yesterday I got a funny voicemail from my sister, at the end of which she mentioned off-hand that she and my mom were en route to see Black Swan. I loved Black Swan, and I said as much multiple times over Christmas, in front of my mom. In fact, I actively encouraged her to go see it. But the moment I heard that voicemail, a good hour after my sister had left it, I realized I had made a monumental mistake. My intuition was confirmed when my mom subsequently called me after the movie to inform me that she found the movie “deeply, deeply disturbing.”

And she didn’t stop there. READ FULL STORY »

How to fashion a wetsuit from a seal hide, and other things 'Man vs. Wild' will teach you this season

Bear-GryllsImage Credit: Chloe Pearne/Discovery ChannelWe’ve all heard stories about Discovery’s Man vs. Wild hosted by Bear Grylls teaching fans the skills to survive when they get lost in the woods. It’s usually something basic like how to stay warm as opposed to, say, giving yourself an enema for hydration, but one never knows what knowledge will come in handy. I’m impressed with people who retain this information. I’ve said it before, after watching a Man vs. Wild marathon, I find it impossible to walk by a puddle and not think about how I could make the water drinkable. But I couldn’t tell you how to do so now. (The advice that sticks most in my mind is if I ever need to cross a freezing river, it’s best to do it naked so I have dry clothes to put on afterwards. It’s logical, of course, but when faced with the prospect of entering icy water, I don’t think anyone’s first thought is less cover.) So, what will we learn when Man vs. Wild returns for its sixth season starting Feb. 17? Let’s see. Some teases from Discovery:  READ FULL STORY »

Are Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly making a 'Step Brothers' rap album? We hope so!

It’s rare, but every once in a while a celebrity tweet breaks through the white noise of the Internet and makes you sit up and take notice like a shih tzu hearing a dog whistle.
