Image Credit: C Flanigan/FilmMagic.com; Alberto E. Rodriguez/Getty Images The Screen Actors Guild Awards are tonight, PopWatchers. But even with a slate of ultra-talented nominees like the ones we have before us (see the full list here), everyone has their favorites. In the movies category, I’m pulling for James Franco. (Sorry, Colin Firth, still love you!) As adventure seeker Aron Ralston in 127 Hours, Franco found himself alone on screen for much of the movie, and yet, it was just as compelling as an ensemble of impressive actors (See: The Kids Are All Right). And I need not go into detail about the gritty arm amputation scene, which was as gripping as it was utterly disgusting, in the best possible way. READ FULL STORY »

'Goodnight for Justice': Luke Perry brings back the Western -- want a sequel?
Image Credit: Katie Yu/Crown Media Holdings, Inc.Last night, Hallmark Movie Channel premiered the Jason Priestley-directed Western Goodnight for Justice. It stars Luke Perry, who developed the idea for a movie about a character named John Goodnight, a lawyer who becomes the circuit judge for the deadly Wyoming territory. There, as a boy, he witnessed the murders of his parents and a circuit judge. The judge’s wife raised John as her own, and got him the appointment because she thinks he’ll drink and fight himself to death unless he finds the outlaw and gets closure. Along the way, he proves himself a decent man and a fair judge, seeing through chauvinists and bigots. He also meets Lara Gilchrist’s Kate — a talkative women, so we think of Goodnight as the classic strong, silent type when he’s not delivering monologues in court — who turns out to be the daughter of the man who killed his family. Did you see 'The Rite' this weekend? Are you mad too?
Image Credit: Egon EndrenyiEven though we knew EW’s film critic, Owen Gleiberman, gave the weekend’s No. 1 movie, The Rite, the demonic grade of D, we thought it might be fun to see what all the fuss was about. After all, who doesn’t love a silly horror movie that involves the devil, exorcisms, lots (and lots) of feral cats, a red-eyed mule, and Sir Anthony Hopkins? Well as it turns out, we couldn’t agree with our critic’s assessment more: “The Rite commits the supreme sin of making the devil dull.” READ FULL STORY »
Jonathan Knight 'officially' comes out (and suddenly becomes your favorite New Kid?)
Image Credit: Ron Galella/WireImage.comI think for most people, Jonathan Knight has always been their third or fourth favorite member of New Kids on the Block. (Always above Danny, possibly above pre-acting Donnie.) But after Tiffany accidentally “outed” him recently on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live when talking about dating him back in the day, he went to No. 1 for me with a bullet. Jonathan was always the quiet, shy one. I never knew he had such a good sense of humor until I visited his Twitter page after the “news” broke: At Sundance, he tweeted his excitement about a potential celebrity sighting: “Rumor has it Oprah is here! #carsforeveryone! #We’regooooooingtoAuuuuuustralia! #MaybethatreallywasGayle.” Returning to Boston, he lamented not enjoying the experience to its fullest: “Oprah wasn’t having it when I ran up to her and said ‘Oprah its Jon, your long lost half brother’! #thingsthatdidntgosowellatsundance.”
On Jan. 25, Knight’s publicist told EW, “Jonathan has never publicly spoken about his sexuality and doesn’t intend to start.” But today, he broke his silence on the members’ only NKOTB blog with a post titled “TO ALL MY FANS WHO HAVE EXPRESSED CONCERN.” Courtesy of a screengrab via Towleroad, we can all read it: READ FULL STORY »
David Tutera is my reality TV BFF. Who's yours?
Image Credit: Chris Ragazzo/WE tvI don’t know wedding planner David Tutera personally, but after many a nights spent watching My Fair Wedding on WE tv, I certainly feel like I do.
Our non-relationship started in 2008 when I watched my first episode of Fair Wedding. On the show, David (we’re on a first-name basis) takes a bride’s doomed wedding and turns it into her dream affair using the utmost care and thoughtfulness.
But what drew me most to David as a reality personality was not the lavish parties he throws or even his amazing eye for style. READ FULL STORY »
Geoff Stults lands lead in potential 'Bones' spin-off: Why we're psyched
Image Credit: Pixplanete/PR PhotosGeoff Stults, last seen on ABC’s Happy Town, will play “Locator” Walter Sherman in the April episode of Bones serving as a backdoor pilot for a potential spin-off series, EW has confirmed. The Hollywood Reporter first reported news of the long-awaited casting, which exec producer Stephen Nathan described as a tricky process to EW earlier this month. “You want to find people you want to see every single week do one unique character. That’s why when you have Hugh Laurie, who is essentially playing a very unlikable character, you love to see him. And that is a rare, rare quality to find,” he said. “The finder won’t be an unlikeable character, but because it is a unique character, it’s difficult to find just the right person.” Casting came down to the wire: The episode — which finds Booth (David Boreanaz) and Brennan (Emily Deschanel) traveling for a case to Key West, Fla., where the spin-off would be set — will shoot next month. Stone Cold Steve Austin set to host new 'Tough Enough' -- EXCLUSIVE
Image Credit: PRN/PR PhotosEW has learned exclusively Tough Enough, the back-from-the-dead WWE reality contest series, has its new host: Stone Cold Steve Austin. The show will premiere April 4, after Monday Night Raw.
Sigh. I was so hoping there’d be some way to get Al Snow back, but I guess I will just have to, er, toughen up. Steve Austin is one of the WWE’s crossover stars — even non-wrestling fans like me are pretty familiar with him, and he obviously has plenty of on-screen experience. What I liked so much about Snow as the mentor, though, was his ability to turn off that in-ring persona and be a strict teacher, a focused father figure, and occasional goofball. I’m hoping Austin has that same knack, and isn’t just Stone Cold Steve Austin TM with his mentees; I hope sometimes he’s just a regular dude.
Does the presence Stone Cold Steve Austin make you more likely to tune in, PopWatchers?
'The Rite' done right: Something possesses PopWatch Rewind to rewatch 'The Exorcist'
What an excellent day for an exorcism. While Anthony Hopkins is in theaters compelling demons out of people and dollars out of people’s wallets with The Rite, we decided it was a good time to revisit the granddaddy of all possession horror, The Exorcist. Made in 1973 by William Friedkin, straight off of The French Connection, it stars Linda Blair, the original Haley Joel Osment, as a charming young girl who loves her mother, horseback riding, and turning her head around 180 degrees while screaming profanities. Ah, youth! So start doing your stretches, because it’s time to exorcise. READ FULL STORY »
