'Skins: Volume 4' DVD Giveaway

Skins Volume 4Why does the original version of Skins seem so much edgier than any American show about teenagers — even MTV’s new, highly-hyped remake of the British series, which premiered last night? Maybe it’s because not every character on the U.K. edition looks like a model, or the way the show’s cast changes every two years as characters graduate. Maybe it’s just because we Yanks always find English accents sexy and slightly sinister.

Whatever the reason, we know you love Skins: Original Flavor. And in honor of the American version’s debut, as well as the British version’s upcoming fifth season (or “series,” as they say across the pond), we’re giving away 24 copies of ‘Skins: Volume 4′ on DVD, as well as one grand prize package: all four seasons of Skins on DVD. The DVDs are courtesy of BBC Warner and are available while supplies last.

Rob Lowe reacts poorly to 'Parks and Rec' hiatus in new promo: 'How f–––ing long have I not been on television?'

rob-loweImage Credit: Danny Feld/NBCSpeaking as a heterosexual male, there are many reasons to loathe Rob Lowe. So why must the West Wing star keep giving me reasons to love him? Just the other day I discovered Lowe had tweeted enthusiastically about EW cult movie fave The Room and now arrives a promo video for Parks and Recreation in which the man hilariously tears his fellow cast members a collective new one with equal energy. Jerry Lewis comedies being remade: Is an overdue revival afoot?

CinderfellaImage Credit: Mary Evans/Ronald Grant/Everett CollectionMy first reaction to this morning’s news that a trio of classic Jerry Lewis comedies is being remade was: Yesss! Then, after a while, my brain started downshifting to Oh Nooo! You see, I’m a huge Jerry Lewis freak. And no, I’m not French. If you’ve never seen Lewis’ manic and masterful string of comedies for Paramount in the ’60s, then you might have a hard time buying into my belief that the guy is a flat-out genius. Jennifer Aniston goes almost topless in 'Allure,' and (gasp!) disses 'the Rachel'

Jennifer Aniston covers the February issue of Allure magazine, and according to the behind-the-scenes video, she’s channeling the ’60s and Brigitte Bardot with the help of some clip-in bangs. (View the photographs here.) For me, she’s rendered nearly unrecognizable, but maybe after a woman’s been photographed as much as this one, that’s the only way to go. Just tell me that pink lipstick isn’t back in style. Speaking of trends, Aniston also took the article in the beauty mag as an opportunity to diss that famous haircut she had on Friends. ”I love Chris [McMillan, who's still her hairstylist], and he’s the bane of my existence at the same time because he started that damn Rachel, which was not my best look. How do I say this? I think it was the ugliest haircut I’ve ever seen.” Self-deprecating humor is always good… even when it inadvertently insults thousands of women who copied her?

Dr. Laura on 'Today': The gift of inartfuness, and more on that n-word controversy

Among her talents, Dr. Laura Schlessinger has the unique gift of inartfulness. It’s a word she herself used during this morning’s Today interview with Matt Lauer to describe the infamous use of the racially charged n-word on her radio show that led to her move to Sirius XM. Schlessinger discusses the incident in her new book, Surviving a Shark Attack (on Land), explaining that left-wing hysterics hijacked the narrative of that incident, and she told Lauer that her actual “point was well made, but it was inartfully made.” READ FULL STORY »

Regis Philbin leaving 'Live! with Regis & Kelly.' Who should fill his seat?

Regis-and-KellyImage Credit: Disney/ABC Domestic TelevisionAs Regis Philbin announced this morning, the longtime morning talk show host will be retiring later this year. And as one of you commenters mentioned reacting to the news: Poor, poor Joel McHale. But also, poor us! The Live! with Regis & Kelly host was a welcomed presence on television, providing wary and gloomy folks a much-needed non-caffeinated kick in the morning.

Thankfully, us Live! fans will still have Kelly Ripa to lean on for a.m. laughs, but who should take Philbin’s place? (UPDATE: According to ABC, a replacement will be named “in the coming months.”) READ FULL STORY »

'American Idol' is almost here. You jazzed, dawg?

idol-2011Image Credit: Michael Becker/FoxThe long-awaited (?) season 10 premiere of American Idol begins in mere hours. Are you excited? I’m excited! First, let’s get this out of the way. 'Hawaii Five-0' shows some Scott Caan skin next week. Also: The 'Center Stage' star who appeared in last night's episode.

hawaii-five-0Image Credit: Mario Perez/CBSIn case the promo for Jan. 23′s very special tsunami episode of CBS’ Hawaii Five-0 didn’t give you enough of a tease of the interrupted surfing lesson, here’s a nice shot of Scott Caan and Grace Park on the beach to tide you over. You’re welcome. While we await that hour, which airs immediately following the AFC Championship game on Sunday (so you knew Kono would be sporting a bikini somehow), let’s discuss last night’s episode. At what point did you realize the “kidnapped” daughter was the star of Center Stage, Amanda Schull (a.k.a. Jody Sawyer)? That’s some range she showed (spoiler alert!) playing a woman, pictured below, who, with the help of her lover, killed her cancer-stricken husband and tried to send his severed head to her father so he would think her kidnappers were serious and pay them $5 million in ransom (which would set her and her lover up nicely in Paris). Also, was anyone else shocked how long it took Steve and Danno to realize it was a kidnapping they were supposedly dealing with? Her father (Ally McBeal‘s Greg Germann) had two steel briefcases in his office, was nervously looking at his watch, said he’d been waiting for a phone call, and told Danno that he should know how far a father would go to protect his daughter because he had one, too. Why were they surprised when they followed the father to a money drop?  READ FULL STORY »

Judd Apatow solicits jokes to top Ricky Gervais at PGA Awards: Pitches?

Judd-ApatowImage Credit: Chris Hatcher/PR PhotosAs Judd Apatow has noted, he’s “fanning controversy to help ratings for a show not being televised.” But still, it’s a good exercise in comedy. The host of Jan. 22′s Producers Guild of America Awards is a fan of Ricky Gervais, but appears to have been disappointed with his performance at last Sunday’s Golden Globes. “I thought Joan Rivers did a wonderful job hosting the Golden Globes tonight,” he tweeted after the ceremony. “Ricky Gervais should do an episode of Extras where he hosts the Golden Globes and is out of tune. Cut to female friend looking disappointed,” he followed. Then, the zinger: “The Santa Clause was better than The Invention of Lying.” When one of his followers seconded his praise of The Santa Clause – it was a legitimately good movie –  he answered her, “That’s my point! As was Toy Story. Mean is too lazy for RG.” (In a PopWatch poll yesterday, 22 percent of readers thought Gervais went too far.) READ FULL STORY »
