'Castle' kiss tonight: What was your most eagerly-anticipated prime-time pucker? And was it worth the wait?

castle-kissImage Credit: Adam Taylor/ABC/AP ImagesTonight, Beckett and Castle lock lips on Castle (ABC, 10 p.m. ET). EW’s spoiler maven Sandra Gonzalez, who will post an exclusive interview with the episode’s writers after it airs over on our Inside TV blog, just explained to me what she meant when she recently teased that the kiss wasn’t even the best part of the episode. When she finished describing her two favorite moments from the hour, she was collapsed in her chair, physically spent after experiencing the kind of emotional afterglow that those of us who truly love TV know all too well. Because those same people know how will-they-or-won’t-they couples tend to work on TV– and because we can clearly see Beckett looking at someone out of the corner of her eye in the sneak peek of the kiss — we’re prepared for this NOT to be the start of a beautiful romance.

But it still needs to do two things to be satisfying to viewers: READ FULL STORY »

Keith Olbermann tweets that he will soon tweet. Will he tweet about Glenn Beck's taunt?

Keith-OlbermannImage Credit: Mark J. Terrill/AP ImagesSet your clock’s alarms for 8 p.m. ET tonight, Olbermaniacs. At that precise time, your fearless leader will tweet … something monumental. I know this because Olbermann pre-tweeted that tweet with another tweet: “At exactly 8 Eastern tonight I will issue my first tweet. Well, other than THIS one :) .”

What will he say — in 140 characters or less? Will he clarify his reasons for leaving MSNBC? Will he discuss his future? Will he respond to Glenn Beck, who today called his rival “the biggest pain in the a– in the world.” Who knows? Can you feel the excitement building? I’m so wired, that this PopWatch post is really just to announce my 8:01 p.m. post-Olbermann-tweet PopWatch post.

Alec Baldwin shops for 'Barefoot Contessa'

Who among us hasn’t dreamed of having Alec Baldwin run our errands? On Barefoot Contessa this weekend, Baldwin did Ina Garten’s grocery shopping for a charity lunch, and the segment teetered right on the edge of faux-sultry and just actually sultry. Say “dill and scallions” again, please. READ FULL STORY »

Dear mayors of Green Bay and Pittsburgh: Please, no lame wagers

green-bay-steelersImage Credit: Rob Tringali/Sportschrome/Getty Images; Al Messerschmidt/Getty ImagesWith their victories yesterday, the Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers advanced to the Super Bowl, setting up a dream match-up between two of the NFL’s traditional powerhouses. Unfortunately, the teams don’t kick-off in Dallas until Feb. 6, leaving us two weeks of doldrums where the sports media grasps wildly for any semi-game-related non-story. My favorite of those is the traditional wager between the mayors of the competing teams. First of all, it’s always great theater when politicians pretend to be sports fans. Secondly, the stakes are never particularly worth winning. Last year, New Orleans’ mayor put up a care package of music CDs and Bourbon Street appetizers for his Saints, while the mayor of Indianapolis countered with some high-end shrimp cocktail for his Colts. (Because that’s really what the folks in Nawlins crave — shrimp from Indianapolis.) READ FULL STORY »

Oprah has a half-sister: Big family secret revealed!

Categories: Oprah Winfrey

OPRAHImage Credit: Art Streiber/OWNOprah Winfrey promised to reveal a big family secret today on her show, and the Queen of All Media did not disappoint: According to the Associated Press, Oprah introduced her heretofore-unknown half-sister, Patricia. The talk-show host explained that her mother, Vernita Lee, had kept her pregnancy a secret and had given Patricia up for adoption when Oprah was nine years old. Patricia apparently initiated communication after seeing Lee in television interviews discussing certain details that dovetailed with the few facts Patricia knew about her birth mother. A DNA test has confirmed Patricia’s relation to Oprah.

PopWatchers, where do you rate this revelation on the Oprah scale of Huge Revelations? Do you think Patricia will now get her a show on OWN? And what sort of cosmic coincidence leads to this information only just coming out in time for Oprah’s final season?

Happy 70th birthday, Neil Diamond!

Neil-DiamondImage Credit: Theo Wargo/WireImage.comNeil Diamond turns 70 today, and even though the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee seems to have deserted us on Twitter — his last tweet was on New Year’s Eve and linked to funny animal voiceovers — we’re still going to celebrate him. We can’t write “Happy Birthday Neil Diamond!” in the sky like someone did Sunday over the Bel-Air hills, but perhaps we can take a moment to each write a sentence describing our love for the man. I’ll give you a few ideas:

• My key chain is a silver guitar with the words “Neil Diamond World Tour 2008″ on it.
• My favorite mug says “Diamond Girl,” and it’s from 2001.
• I had this semi-hideous floral/lace/sequin shirt I only felt comfortable wearing once — to a Neil Diamond concert.
• After multiple karaoke attempts, I’ve had to accept that “I Am… I Said” is not in my vocal range. READ FULL STORY »

'Mean Girls 2': When is a sequel not a sequel?

So Mean Girls 2 premiered on ABC Family last night, and as Gretchen Wieners might say, it was so not fetch. The flick tells the story of a pretty outsider who transfers to North Shore High, befriends an unpopular artist, and conspires to bring down the Plastics, a group of three snotty, cruel classmates: a devious queen bee, a dumb, promiscuous blonde, and a high-strung brunette. Soon enough, the protagonist gets a makeover and becomes a member of the ruling class herself. It’s only after a major crisis turns the entire school against her that our girl can get back on track and finally rid the school of Plastics once and for all.

Kathie Lee does a keg stand. Cheers!

Kathie Lee and Hoda are fully embracing their image as morning television’s most festive lushes. Heck, Kathie Lee even went so far as to do a keg stand on Friday’s The Tonight Show, which the Today show gleefully re-aired this morning, just in case the booze-friendly among us had other engagements. Impressive! Or a little frightening? Well, either way: READ FULL STORY »

What should Natalie Portman do next?

Natalie-PortmanImage Credit: Kevin Winter/Getty Images Record 20902344By tomorrow morning, Natalie Portman will have accomplished more this week than most of us do in a lifetime, adding an all-but-certain Oscar nomination for Black Swan to the $20 million opening she already racked up for her rom-com, No Strings Attached, this weekend. And that’s on top of the news that she’ll have five movies in theaters this year. Five! Come on, Natalie: You’re making the rest of us look bad.

The success of both Black Swan and No Strings Attached proves that Portman can pull off just about any genre. But let’s imagine for a second that you’re her manager, plotting her next move. Would you advise a comedy or a drama? Things to keep in mind: She already has the stoner fantasy Your Highness coming out in April, followed by the big-budget Thor in May. And theoretically, she’ll be taking a little time off in the coming months to welcome a bouncing baby into her life. She may well win an Oscar this March, so it might be a good idea to add a little levity to her image with something lighthearted. But in that case, wouldn’t you also want to capitalize on her post-Oscar clout to set up a heavy-hitting passion project, like, say A Tale of Love and Darkness, the Israeli memoir that Portman has said she’d like to direct someday?

Okay, PopWatchers: Put on your best Hollywood hotshot face (spray tan, shades, Bluetooth) and pick Portman’s next part: Should it be a comedy or a drama? Or something else entirely?

Who did the Razzies 'snub'?

aang-airbenderImage Credit: Industrial Light & MagicIf celebrated actors, actresses, or filmmakers heard their phones ring especially early this morning, they probably just rolled over and buried their head under a pillow. Tomorrow might be the day to bounce out of bed for an early call — as the Oscars will be announced — but today was the Razzie’s turn to “celebrate” all that is deliciously bad with Hollywood. The 31st annual Razzie Awards piled on M. Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender, Sex and the City 2, and Twilight: Eclipse. They skewered some of our most beloved aging divas — Liza! Cher! Barbra! — and managed to recognize all of Jessica Alba’s work. Still, I’m certain the Razzies “snubbed” a few folks. I, sadly, have seen worse than The Bounty Hunter and The Switch. I’ve seen much worse than Little Fockers. But as my grandmother used to say, “If you don’t have something nice to say … come sit next to me.” So what films and performances did the Razzies overlook? What movies made you roll your eyes, drum your fingers, and retch, all at the same time? Check out the major nominations after the jump, and then sound off on the best of the worst.
