Jon Bon Jovi bon-joining the cast of 'New Year's Eve'

(The duo will be in good company. So far, the ample cast in director Garry Marshall’s follow-up to Valentine’s Day includes Robert De Niro, Halle Berry, Michelle Pfeiffer, Hilary Swank, Sarah Jessica Parker, Sienna Miller, Ashton Kutcher, Lea Michelle, Sofía Vergara, Zac Efron, Jessica Biel and Frankie Muniz.)

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bon Jovi will play a rock star (but how?) who finds himself facing an ex (Berry) on the titular end-of-the-year holiday. This is really a win-win situation for everyone. It’s been nearly a decade since Bon Jovi left his recurring role on Ally McBeal, and if director Garry Marshall needed someone to play a successful musician, it may as well be Bon Jovi.

Meanwhile, SNL‘s Meyers is on familiar comedic ground in the film. He will play a financially struggling soon-to-be father attempting to finesse his wife into having the first baby of the year, thus earning the family a prize of $25,000. (Aside: Is that a real competition?)

What do you think, Popwatchers? Is the world is craving some generally alright acting from an aging rock star? Will the musician and the comic add some panache to the film or are you still holding out for St. Patrick’s Day?

I like Jon Bon Jovi. He did a Vampire movie several years ago. He should do more acting roles before he loses his looks and get too old. LOL

Most small towns / hospitals have a “first baby of the year” contest. I’ve never heard of a $25000 prize – maybe a year’s supply of diapers.

Wow, this movie just keeps sounding worse.

I thought nothing could top the Valentine’s Day, but I could be wrong.
