Joan Rivers, 'Fox and Friends', and the great attention contest

Who loves publicity more: Joan Rivers or Fox News? It’s neck and Botoxed neck, you guys. Yesterday, Fox & Friends canceled Rivers’ appearance, which they say was a scheduling error. Rivers took to Twitter, where she said it wasn’t an innocent mistake. “I made a joke about Sarah Palin that was picked up by @TMZ…¬†As a result, our appearance on the Fox News Channel tomorrow morning has been canceled.” She told a similar story to Joy Behar:

The executive producer for Fox & Friends denies that Rivers has been banned. “If Joan doesn’t want to come on the morning program, where she was invited, to push her next project, that’s no problem,” she said in a statement. “We have plenty of people begging [to be on].” Rivers’ rep did not immediately respond to our request for comment.

Gee, I wonder if this is getting blown out of proportion in an attempt to drum up buzz for all parties. Rivers gets to make her “Sarah Palin is stupid” joke, Fox gets to act incensed, Rivers gets more attention for the launch of her upcoming “reality” show, and Fox & Friends gets to trumpet how in-demand it is. I think everyone wins! Except for America.

Does this change how much I loved Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work? Or make the Rivers episode of Fresh Air anything other than magical? Of course not. But does it make me more likely to watch Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best or Fox & Friends? Not particularly.

What about you, PopWatchers? Rivers vs. Fox: Who wins?

OK… so you wrote this article just to say you won’t watch either show involved? Thanks…

I personally think Fox is lying. They do it in NEARLY EVERY NEWS REPORT – and now we’re supposed to trust their spokesperson? Ha.

Also, I noticed the spelling mistake. Go ahead and attack me, trolls.

  • foxisbaaaaaaad

remember, kids: foxnews is bad. eviiiiiiiiiiiiil even. yeah, that’s the ticket. let’s keep attacking them over and over again and maybe one day their ratings will slip! yeah, that’s the ticket….

fox news is evil. they shouldn’t call themselves a news channel when it is a commentary based channel all day. it has a specific slant to their reporting. joan rivers of course loves publicity but i can’t see why she would make that up. the was she described it on howard stern this morning, it didn’t seem like she was just making that up.

what’s worse? That people do this for attention or that we actually watch, discuss and write about it?

Hm, Ron Paul didn’t even get the courtesy of the “scheduling conflict” lie when Fox News refused to invite him to the 2008 Republican Presidential debate, even though he had already consistently beat 2 of the other invited candidates in numerous states.

Does it surprise anyone anymore than Fox operates according to a specific political agenda? Joan Rivers being lied to is the least of our worries.

Heard Joan Rivers on Howard Stern this morning. If you have a chance, listen to her interview. She is not really upset with Fox, just that they are broadcasting their version of the truth. Joan Rivers has no reason to lie. Can you say the same about Fox News?

I’m assuming Joan told them to go “FOX” themselves? The show is called “Fox and Friends” and the people on Fox are like a family. Diss one, you diss them all.Who cares what she says on CNN or Joy Behar show? No ones watching. She missed a chance because of her big mouth, and lack of facts. Palin responsible for Tucson shooting? Ridiculous!

  • Bonnie

What difference does it make WHY they cancelled her? They didn’t want her on the show! Juan Williams got fired from NPR for his comments on Fox. Actions have consequences. FOX RULES!

I have always liked Joan and I was planning to DVR her new show with Melissa…but I am going to take a pass now. I have been watching Fashion Police…just because of Joan, but she is becoming more and more raunchy. An off-color comment now and then can be a chuckle but now she feels compelled to do it every time she opens her mouth. So no wonder she has no restraint in regards to Sarah Palin. I am tired of a woman my age who has no common sense and even less dignity. Bye Joan.

I wonder who does Joan’s hair (it’s not a wig, I saw the movie), because it is SHARP.

    No wonder Edgar killed himself.
