Ben Stiller reveals 'Zoolander' sequel plot -- and it sounds awesome

zoolander-2Image Credit: Melinda Sue GordonGet excited, fans of the really, really, ridiculously good looking: Zoolander 2 is one step closer to a reality. Sequels! They’re so hot right now.

Ben Stiller and Justin Theroux have completed the script, and it sounds like they found a way to make a sequel relevant. Stiller told Empire:

It’s ten years later and most of it is set in Europe. I don’t want to give away too much, but it’s basically Derek and Hansel ten years later – though the last movie ended on a happy note a lot of things have happened in the meantime. Their lives have changed and they’re not really relevant anymore. It’s a new world for them. Will Ferrell is written into the script and he’s expressed interest in doing it. I think Mugatu is an integral part of the Zoolander story, so yes, he features in a big way.”

Yep, this brings me enormous joy.

My most-quoted Zoolander line is “hot bread, Zeke!” What’s yours, PopWatchers? And what do you think of the sequel plot?

Wasn’t the first one about how Zoolander wasn’t relevant anymore?

Now Stiller and Theroux have apparently cracked the code by… making Zoolander AND Hansel irrelevant.

I know Stiller doesn’t want to give too much away (which is good), but hopefully there’s more of the nutiness from the first one in store.

    I’M SO EXCITED!!!!!

        Mer-MAN!

      • Sherri

that’s the one! Whenever my sister and i cough we always ask each other if we have “the black lung”….hahahahahahahaha

  • West

Who cares about plot points? This isn’t Inception, it’s Zoolander 2. It doesn’t need to be about anything, it just needs to be funny.

    • Jason C.

And this is why movies, especially comedies, suck nowadays. Zoolander was hilarious in the subversive quality of lampooning the fashion industry. In order for a sequel to be relevant and funny it has to take that up a notch.

    Orange Mocha Frappuccino!!!!

      Mine too!

    “He’s so hot right now”

    Can’t use it too much!

  • Bluto

How exactly does “it’s ten years later” and “not relevant anymore” equate to “Ben Stiller reveals ‘Zoolander’ plot and it sounds awesome?”

I get the feeling an editor threw this at Margaret Lyons and said “make this sound like you know what you’re talking about.”

    FAIL

  • Mole

I’m in if Billy Zane is.

    • Anika

YES!!! I MUST ADMIT AND I’M NOT ASHAMED TO DO SO, ZOOLANDER IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE COMEDIES EVER! EACH MOVIE WHERE STILLER AND WILSON TEAM UP IS PURE COMEDY GOLD! SO BRING ON THE BLUE STEEL!!!

  • Jon

I suppose “Zoolander” has its fan, but it’s not embedded in pop culture like “Anchorman.” So why is this getting made and the “Anchorman” sequel isn’t? I just don’t get it.

    • Mellissa

Because some people prefer Zoolander to Anchorman perhaps? You know what I don’t get? Why people think Anchorman is funnier than Zoolander?

      • Jon

It’s not a “which film was funnier?” contest. “Zoolander” just doesn’t have the status of “Anchorman.” People quote that film on a daily basis. I would guess that most people don’t even REMEMBER “Zoolander.” I think it just means that Ben Stiller has more power than Will Ferrell and Adam McKay.

      • @Jon

Most people I know quote Zoolander all the time and barely remember Anchorman. So pllllbbbttt!!

    • jackjack

Zoolander and Anchorman are about equal, I’d say. It’s just Anchorman is a few years more recent.

      God?
…The files are IN the computer.

    • Merry Bear

Two words: Freak gasoline fight accident.

    • Marcus

Anchorman 2 is being made. It comes out at the end of this year. Check on your facts!

  • Jason

I always say “Can’t turn left” when I do something clumsy.

If it’s anywhere near as good as the first one, I’m so in for a sequel. The first one was one of the most surprisingly funny movies I’ve ever seen, and I never fail to laugh when I catch it on TV.

  • alex

but will david bowie be in it?

    • tracy bluth

      I HOPE SO!!!

  • Lisa

    Obey my Dog!
    Any kind of dough!

  • Roger

Didn’t see the first one because it looked dumb. Why bother with another one? Waste of time.

    Stillers 15 mins are up!

    • Jen

Roger, do you understand what the term “15 minutes of fame” means? It applies to flash-in-the-pan celebrity, like reality stars and Internet sensations. Like him or not, Stiller’s had a pretty successful career for nearly 2 decades now. Also, I feel really bad that good-looking people like us made you throw up and feel bad about yourself.

      • Mike

Well said Jen! Didn’t mean to repeat it, just hadn’t refreshed the page before commenting! :-)

      • Natasha

        hahaha right on!!

    • Mike

hmmm…I’m not going to say I was the biggest fan of Zoolander (some parts were pretty hysterical, I’ll admit!) but to say that Stiller has had a “15 minutes of fame” type career is that his “short stint” of fame is close to expiration is pretty inaccurate. In fact, it really doesn’t make any kind of sense at all! lol

    • Niix Starkyller

Roger, I’m not going to call you dumb because that would be rude. So, I’m just going to think it.

    • Wes

If you didn’t see something but feel free to judge on it…….I feel sad.
