Even though Sandler’s only 12 years older than Samberg, the casting sounds kind of perfect. I mean, isn’t Samberg a direct comedy descendant of Sandler? I can’t think of any two SNL stars more clearly aligned than these two. Sandler’s and Samberg’s comedy styles obviously share some DNA — silly songs, the lack of vanity, the surprising mileage from goofy voices — plus each has been the quintessential star of their era of SNL.
Sandler’s loose, absurdist characters and persistent persona represent the mid-90s brand of personality-driven humor, and Samberg’s viral, ironic style typifies post-YouTube comedy. Chris Farley, David Spade, Norm MacDonald, Julia Sweeney, and Sandler all stuck very close to their type in every sketch; Sandler was always playing Sandler, whether that was as Mr. Zagat or as Opera Man. These days, it’s Samberg’s referential, often dorky, clash-of-context style that defines SNL. “Lazy Sunday,” “D— in a Box,” “On a Boat,” “Laser Cats” — that’s what will go in the time capsule for mid-2000s SNL. Ugh, I hate Kristen Wiig. She’s the worst thing about SNL.
I would watch this movie in a second! I have always thought they would be great as a father/son duo! And another interesting potential father/son duo would be Dan Ackroyd & Chris Parnell, but they would be more of a straight man duo. . .
This sounds like it’s going to be great, but you didn’t mention my favorite Samberg moment – “An Immigrant’s Tale”! You have to love the moment when Moishe Samberg meets Cornelius Timberlake

Absolutely–they have the same sort of goofy yet biting wit.
I’ve always thought Andy reminded me of Adam both in style of comedy and looks somewhat. This has potential.
Totally off topic but I can’t stand those Gilly sketches. They aren’t funny! Anyway, yeah I could totally see Sandler playing Samberg’s dad.

I am rooting for the very gifted Bill Hader & Jason Sudeikis to transition to big film careers- they are the best talents on SNL.
BILL HADER! He’s super good at impressions! And poor Kristen Wiig – she’d totally be the star if she weren’t in EVERY. SINGLE. SKIT. Seriously, they can’t use Abby Elliott for a few things? Where the eff has she been?!?!?! The featured players are getting more screen time then her!
