As told to Archana Ram. I think last night’s challenge came at the perfect time. Read the full post.

I was actually a guest diner at this event and am amazed that the show’s editors completely glossed over one of the main pieces of the evening: the fact that the two losing teams also ran out of food before even a fraction of the guests were served! That’s right – I was lucky to have grabbed the succotash right away because it went fast. I never got to taste Antonia, Jamie or Tiffani’s food because they ran out of food almost immediately. It appeared that they only made enough food for the judges. Both teams refused to keep cooking even though probably only 50 of the 200 guests had tried their food. Conversely, Dale’s team had plenty of food and Dale kept going back to the cooler to cut more pieces off that massive fish he caught to grill for people long after the event was officially ‘over’. Angelo’s team ran out of fish but they still stuck around and made ‘salsa’ out of their leftover garnishes and side ingredients. The diners (who were all really hungry) all appreciated the extra effort. I was happy those two teams ended up on the top.

Now that Spike’s out, I’m rooting for Carla and Mike. DC all the way! Sidenote: Carla’s being honored as a goodwill ambassador for DC. I believe she’s a great choice. She seems to be a much better chef than she’s gotten credit for.

Dale made a good taco, but doesn’t he lose points for being a bung hole? Dude’s always sour about something. He deserved his previous win and has some talent, but personality goes a long way.

Marcel and Blaise suffer from ego. Both dudes need to be on the bottom a few more times so they get off their perches.

Fabio strikes me like a soso chef with a likeable persona. I think a return of Stefan would have been more fun somehow. He would have matched up well with some of the other chefs better than Fabio has.

It’s about time Jamie got tossed. Yet another season of near misses nonstop for “Ms. Top Scallop” led to the demise of more talented chefs. Bad attitude, unappealing food and a sense of whiny entitlement a good chef do not make.

  • TEAM Challenges

I’m over this team business. It’s Top Chef, not Top Chef Teams. When are they getting back to who can cook well and serve a good dish head to head?

I’m confused by the judges’ comments to Antonia, and how she should have been more responsible for Tiffani’s & Jamie’s dishes. Why her, and not the other 2 getting involved with her dish? Just because Antonia’s dish was judged well, no one knows how their product is going to be received, so why would she take the lead on her own?

Also, as Tiffany D said, everyone is responsible for their own work, team or not. Didn’t they just take Spike to task for letting Angelo mess with his food? That is why the judging on Top Chef has become baffling – the judges change their criteria weekly and this leaves the cheftestants AND viewers confused.

Which is it Gail and Tom – interfere with another chef, or stand up for your own dish?

Very happy 2-stitch Jamie is gone(its not top scallop/its not top soup either). Fabio(its not top sous chef) should be packing his knives next. Where the heck is BOURDAIN? He gives the show more of a honest feel. bb

Looks like Bourdain is back next week…just in time for “Restaurant Wars”!

Calling out Antonia as the judges did and as Gail shares above was asinine, because it put the onus on her for their bad dishes? Did Jamie help Tiffani and vice versa, as well as both helping Antonia? Applying that inconsistent logic in the judging is myopic, skewed and shows their overall lack in their ability to judge fairly. Also, having “team” challenges will inherently cloud the fairness of judging too, as individuals either can hide within their team, with no clear candidate to label as the “one” (Marcel, Richard and Fabio), and it also takes away from someone’s dish that “would of won if it wasn’t for your team being on the bottom” (Antonia).

Gail seems to miss these distinctions and seems to blame the contestants and not the producers who set up the challenges. Look in the mirror.

I think Gail’s writing is wonderful. It is one thing to know so much about food and cooking but to put it into words like she does, it’s fabulous. Gail, congratulations on being the best food journalist I have ever read.

I liked Jamie in her season but she’s been a real downer during All STars. It seems like she didn’t care much about being there. I think Marcel or I hate to say it, Fabio, probably should have gone home before Tiffani. It seemed like an odd choice for her, even if her dish wasn’t that great, the guys team had more overall issues, I think.

Regardless, it’s a good season! I’m rooting for Carla. Do they do fan favorites in Top Chef? (Like Survivor does). Carla should win that even if she doesn’t win the competition. :)

TEAM CARLA!!!! It’s so nice to see the good guy ( gal ) win! I love her every bit as much as I love Harold! Ever notice how she cheers the loudest when someone ELSE wins?

  • ftworthbabe

why did Tre get invited back? he doesn’t eat real food, just drinks power shakes & lifts weights. at least Tiffani eats real food!!!

Glad Jamie’s gone. She epitomized her nasty attitude in the way she talked about Casey getting axed. Jamie said she thought she was going going and was sorry to see Casey go. (Good so far) You would think she might have followed that comment by saying something like, “So I’m going to make the most of this lucky opportunity,” or “I’m going to make the judges proud that they chose to keep me.” Instead she said “Whatever”. That self-centeredness makes me ill.

    • Chris

Agreen. Good riddance. Didn’t like her in either season. Too pompous. But she really stayed too long in all stars.

  • Josh

Glad Carla won. Gail forgot to mention that Dale did not make the tortillas he used on his dish.

  • Chris

This doesn’t seem like a true all star show. Too many team competitions and people getting sent home that didn’t cook their food like Spike and Casey. They need to re-do.
