For those of you who miss the delicious dose of crazy that Paula Abdul brought to American Idol, good news! Meet Steven Tyler! Our own Adam B. Vary has been inside the Idol audition room and conducted the only roundtable interview with the new judges (for our new issue on stands now). He joins Mandi Bierly and yours truly on the latest edition of the TV Insiders podcast to deliver all the scoop on the new judging panel. Do they actually get along? Can they survive the loss of Simon? And does Steven make one lick of sense? Listen in to find out! Also, we dissect a season premiere of The Bachelor that featured manscaping, singing, a (faux) proposal, and, naturally, a vampire with a real-life set of fangs. Mandi tries to make sense of it all while using her conversation with Bachelor Brad to shed some light on his controversial decision to stand up both ladies in season 11.
Finally, EW critic extraordinaire Ken Tucker stops by to preview midseason TV. Which new programs do you need to be watching — and avoiding? Let Ken tell you! Plus find out the show that threw me into a blind rage with its badness. To hear all that and more, just click on the audio player icon below. Or, since we’re now on iTunes, you can subscribe for free right here and take the TV Insiders with you on the go. And to send a question to the TV Insiders team, follow us on Twitter @TVInsiders.

Tyler craps all over his Aerosmith past by doing this show.
I agree. He has lost ALL rock credibility. It’a freakin’ disgrace. L.A.M.F
He’s rockin!!!! He’s way more rockin and fun loving than Paula!!!!
Jthunders: How exactly has Steven Tyler “lost all credibility”? He is a “disgrace” how? Yeah, I thought so….
@jthunders…the only thing that would make Steven a disgrace was if he acted like vain jerks like you and kid rock. Do you want Steven to act conceited like kid rock? kid rock has his own music career and money and by the way he talks he doesn’t give a crap about other people who want that chance too. Steven is not conceited, he cares and knows that other people need that music career chance.
I disagree. Aerosmith is a separate endeavor and stands on its own accomplishments. Tyler as an individual is absolutely allowed to try something different.
…because Aerosmith is so classy?
I agree with underthepiano, Aerosmith is seperate. And if the entire band’s past can be destroyed by one member doing one outside endeavor YEARS after their heyday, then maybe it wasn’t such a great band to begin with.
I think it is a great idea! I love Aerosmith, I love Steven Tyler and part of what makes him so great for this show is his old school rock vernacular. I’m gonna enjoy every moment of this and love Aerosmith even more. BAM!
Shut up, Kid Schlock.
he pretty much crapped all over his rock history when he starting singing songs for movies with asteroids in them.
I agree. I read the roundtable interview in the new issue of EW and Tyler’s answers and comments, for the most part, don’t make any sense. He just seems crazy. Not sweet and loopy, like Paula… just crazy.
Steven Tyler has been around long than Star Wars. It’s entirely possible he’s a bit crazy – which doesn’t mean he’s dim, or anything. Sometimes, you have to be crazy to survive.
this dude is a washed up bore.and nothing else.
A bore he is clearly not. Obviously not washed up either. The man has been a success in a fickle idustry for decades. That requires talent, intelligence, and charisma. Plus a knack for knowing when to shake the tree. Just wait… Tyler is going to give the goods.
I LOVE Steven Tyler. Love the experience he brings, love his voice, and love that he can laugh at himself. How about everyone relax and at let season 10 get underway? Tyler is going to add some much needed fun.
As long as 1/2 the contestents don’t end up with Hep-C, I’m looking forward to him being there.
Good grief! Some people are way too serious. So what if a rocker wants to have some fun in a different way. This stuff about sacrilege that is out there and tarnishing his image is just stupid. As to him being washed up that shows ingnorance. Every time Tyler is on a show he is the one who rocks the house. Some exaples: the tribute show to Hank Jr – he was the one who was electric. Kennedy Center honors – he brought the audience to their feet and McCartney clearly loved his tribute performance. Bottom line, he is just a guy, albeit a talented one. These rockers are not “gods” despite what some seem to think. I think he will be a total kick on Idol.
I think ST is a great addition to AI. I didn’t realize how dull the past judges were until the seeing how entertaining ST and JL are. I find ST charming and JL is just so easy on the eyes.
I love Steven Tyler, and Aerosmith, but tell me, What Has He Done To His Face???
My thoughts exactly! Every time I see any of the promos for Idol I recoil in horror when I see that dude’s “face”. He looks like roadkill…
It varies by the person, but there are some effects of aging that can’t be undone by the surgeon’s scalpel. If you pull back some of the skin on the face but not others, the untouched areas continue to sag and loose elasticity while the redone areas stay more taut. It results in that uneven visual effect that Tyler now posseses.
WHERE’S ANNIE????
Good question, did she leave, too???
I don’t think so. No one has said/tweeted anything that would make me think that. I assume she’s just on vacation
They say at the start of the podcast that she’s on vacation this week…but the lack of “30 Rock” and “Cougar Town” on the TV recap list isn’t encouraging.
She’s just on vacation. Will be back next Wednesday. I miss her, too.
Whoa. What a picture. Sandra Bernhard is NOT aging well.
So first you exclude those of us who don’t drink the Facebook Kool-Aid. Now you exclude those of us who don’t want to install iTunes just to download one podcast. I should think a magazine would want to *expand* its audience, not shrink it. Come on, EW, bring back the direct download.
You don’t need to download iTunes…read the entire last paragraph and it tells you right there how to listen.
I know I can stream it, but I’d like to be able to download it.
let’s just see what happens. you never know. just let it either build itself back up or tear itself down. you don’t know maybe we WILL find the next superstar.
He kind of looks like a 60 year old female prostitute, sure is ugly.
Steven Tyler is so NOT ugly. That is a great, interesting face.
If by “great” and “interesting” you mean “atrocious” and “shocking/scary”.
He sure turned out a stunning daughter, IMO. And there is clearly a family resemblance.
American Idol is one of many shows that just needs to go off the air.
Steven Tyler may be what American Idol needs.
This is great publicity for Aerosmith!!!!
Steven is in person a very hot old guy! I had the pleasure to meeting him at the airport a couple of years ago and he looked great, was very polite and took the time to smooze with me!! LOVE that man! When I called home to tell my husband that I got to meet my rock idol, he said “Are you coming home?) I had to think about that for a minute! I’ve NEVER watched Idol past the first few shows where most make fools of themselfs, however, I will NOT miss one episode since ST is on…
…..has slezak left EW??? i sure hope not but he hasn’t been writing any of the idol articles and he’s not on or mentioned in the tvinsiders podcast….boo hoo if so!
