Will Superman and Batman ever appear in the same movie? It almost happened twice in the last decade. In 2002, Warner Bros. greenlit Batman vs. Read the full post.

Batman can be in a Superman movie any time you want, but Superman only works in a very particular type of Batman Movie. That’s either Adam West or Joel Schumaher (shuddders!)
With Nolan’s Bats done Warners would have to make some kind of halfway house between Nolan / Birton batman and Adma West Batman that didn’t turn into Batman Forever (somehow overlooked as garbage becausse of batman & Robin AND Jim Carrey)
Burton…….
Pairing off Batman and Superman was always a bad idea. Superman was always the all-American good guy. Batman on the other hand (excepting the camp crap from the 60′s TV show) was almost as sociopathic as the criminals he fought. Tim Burton/Michael Keaton’s version was the closest to the origin of the character.
Keaton was excellent as Batman. Especially in Returns where he and Burton totally got to grips with the fact that there are several different people in Bruce Wayne’s head, not just Bruce and The Batman; Played off perfectly with similar multiple personality selina Kyle. Losing Keaton was a real shame, although at least he escaped Schumacher’s atrocities.
I do not love that he uses “the” before both names…makes me wonder how familiar he is with the property he’s supposed to be caring for.
Also, I’m definitely not opposed to endings, but why does it have to be after three movies? Harry Potter is doing fine as an octalogy!
I hope the avengers movie is a huge hit. It will force warner brothers to make a justice league movie. If they can make a successful animated tv series then they should be able to make a live-action film. Let grant morrison write it, j.j. abrams direct it and bruce timm to product it.
Seeing as DC et al are perfectly content teaming up Batman & Superman in the comics universe, as they’ve done many times, and even happy to split the superhero-duties in the animated features, why the heck are they so dead-set against the notion of teaming them up in a Live-Action Big Screen production? I thought the whole “No Batman on TV series when there’s a major movie in the works” rule was rather asinine, but this is getting into Bizarro-world territory now!
I know this is really little more than a pipe-dream of mine, but it could be quite seriously awesome if DC dug their cajones out of the dark hole they’ve been hiding in for decades and developed something of an Official-Canon fictional “Omniverse” between Nolan’s terrific reboot of the Batman saga and the upcoming Superman reboot (even though Nolan has reportedly backed out of the spear-heading of the Super-reboot). And if I ruled the world of Superhero-franchises (definitely just wishful thinking there, lol), not only would Tom Welling play the titular title role (with Erica Durance playing the love of his life, of course), I’d really, really love to see them work the story in a way that would be consistent with the history of Clark Kent’s early years as established in Smallville–especially with this final season well on its way to going out in a Super-blaze of glory!
Better still would be the fans’ flight-of-fancy wish to see Smallville itself “rebooted” in something of a spin-off series, “Metropolis” that showcases the awesomeness of the Superman we’ve spent ten long years following the growth and development of how this strange visitor from another planet grew into the Superman we all know and love. That, my fellow fans, would certainly have the potential to be the most awesome pay-off for our investment of time, energy, and of course, bucketloads of moola on the series DVDs sales!
Alas, that’s probably only ever going to see the light of day in the realm of fanfiction, but… hey, a Super-Fan can dream, can’t she?
Darren… Spiderman was a continuing storyline that was abruptly ended by the studio, hence no direct closing storyline. Just one man’s opinion.
I just want to say, that this whole comic book movie began in 1999, with Blade/Wesley Snipes (thank you Wesley). A little known Marvel product that set the stage for EVERYTHING we are seeing now from both companies (Marvel/DC)… Just one man’s opinion.
Blade was 1998 and you’ll be happy to hear that it’s not just one man’s opinion it’s well known in the industry (EW bloggers rarely displa actual industry knowledge, let alone reasearch capability) that Marvel began aggressively getting their characters onscreen, even though thhey were often located at other studios and began this with Blade. Blade proved that comic book charaters could be successful, if their movies were good enough; the movie industry had more or less lost faith in them after Batman and Robin, seeking to blame a lack of interest ratherr than the fact that Batman Forever was a poor movie that got by on Jim Carrey’s fresh megastardom and that it’s sequel was one of the worst movies ever made. The momentum from Blade’s success helped Marvel continue their work with Fox, rights holders to the X-Men in getting that film made. Again with a film about characters not that well known to the general public, and made on a relativly small budget, being a global success Superhero movies were proven to be something the public were happy to see.
I don’t know where you’re getting this fromat all. Marvel has outsold DC at almost every turn for decades now. Only DC’s “events” have come out at / near the top of the charts for a long, long time and nobody has read Wonder Woman consistently for a loooong time. Ditto Superman actually.
the only way I really ever see or for that matter want to see a Justice League movie or even a Batman/Superman crossover film is if they did Avatar style and used the voice actors from the DCAU
