If Gwyneth Paltrow’s recent media blitz for Country Strong is any indication, the actress is doing a darn good job — intentionally or not — to shed her formerly aloof image. In fact, after a spectacular cameo on Glee, charming appearance of Chelsea Lately, and surprising performance at the Country Music Awards, I’ve all but forgotten that she essentially anointed herself a lifestyle guru, who recommends juice cleanses and exorbitantly priced fashion. And last night, the actress further proved my point when she appeared on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and gave me the confidence to say: Gwyneth, you rock!
Paltrow revealed — in jest, sadly — that she and Fallon had been part of a rap group called Shazzazz back in the ’80s and proceeded to share with viewers their ultra-hip music video.

The videos have a tinge of “D—k in a Box,” but I think Shazzazz’s B-roll paired with Paltrow’s wacky hair give it the edge when it comes to ’80s authenticity. Plus, you know it’s good when I’m left wondering which is better: Paltrow’s flip-up lens sunglasses or Fallon’s Milli Vanilli hair. What do you think?
Sure, she’s just trying to plug a movie (a critically wobbly one, at that), but in the age of overexposure, it’s rare to find a celebrity who’s on a press tour doing something fun and/or interesting to make that plug. It’s helped us learn that there’s more to the actress than pensive stares and Shakespearean dialogue. She can sing! She can dance! She can wear funny wigs! Who knew?

Nope, my perception of GP is that times are tough lately, even for Miss Gwynneth, silver-spoon, snob extraordinaire. She needs a hit movie BADLY so alas, this PR tour strategy is to get down to the level of us peasants. Lordy, it’s all so beneath her she told her reps, but they told her to smile, put on a country hat and *gasp* appear *gasp* numerous times on TV acting “real”. Oh the shame for Gwynneth!! Y’all, we aren’t worthy of her, but she wants to share her wonderrful self with the little people and brighten up our little lives. hahaha, I have no doubt after this giddup cowbow movie time is over, she’ll be back to being insufferable.
Thanks for writing exactly what I would have regarding GP. Ugh – she thinks her ‘blank’ don’t stink and this fake round of publicity stunts ain’t gonna change that persona. She can stand on her head and still the movie seats will remain empty for ‘Country Strong.’

Why does EW have a love affair happening with the overated Gwynneth lately???? This is a lifetime movie. She is not half as good as the raves EW is giving her lately on any of her performances. GP down to earth?? Maybe EW believes there really is a Santa too.
This is exactly why Jimmy Fallon’s Late Night is so amazing. He gets these A-list stars to come on his 12:30 show and basically goof around and have fun.

I have to agree with you, she is starting to warm my cold heart as well. There was a time when she did not annoy me and could make fun of herself. Then, I don’t know when, but it went downhill. I like this side of her…keep it going.
I am consistently amazed at the level of animosity in the comments sections of some of these articles. If you don’t like someone, ignore the article and move on with your life.
I am consistenly amazed a the some people who comment about not liking negative comments on a comment board. Read in dictionnary…DEFINITION OF COMMENT/COMMENTARY: a note explaining, illustrating, or criticizing the meaning of a writing; an observation or remark expressing an opinion or attitude critical comments; a judgment expressed.
I have to say, she comes across a lot less snot-nosed than you do.

This is the first time I’ve ever commented on one of these, and now I feel all gross, like I’ve joined a club filled with people I would never want to be lumped in with in real life-self-important, self-loathing, jealous individuals who contribute nothing to the world but crap on anyone else who tries.

I’m starting to cringe for Gwynneth. THis movie and her PR is screaming “Pay attention, I desperately need a career boost people and will do anything, even wear a goofy hat and/or wig!!”. Makes me cringe.

what is with all the Gwyneth hate? I dont find her annoying at all – she seems cool and fun and willing to take risks and do all sorts of things outside of acting from Goop to singing. I mean, whats the big f-ing deal? And who isnt promoting their own movie these days? The hate for her is ridiculous.
I really like Gwyneth P. I’ve seen alot of her movies and she’s amazing. I have like 8 of her movies on DVD…she’s very talented. I’m really excited about ‘Country Strong’!
Honestly….If you can’t find the humor in her appearance on Glee or in her recent funny appearances on talk shows, than you are just a miserable, jealous hater and you should keep your comments to yourself. Seriously, I’ve NEVER understood why people have hated on her for years. She has always been funny in interviews, and I think a lot of what she’s has said before has been taken out of context. Also, times are clearly not tough for her if she has Emmy buzz for her work on Glee, and she’s even set to return. She also has two movies lined up, and she’s even stated in the past she could care less if she stars in blockbusters or not, and that she does movies she loves. So, shut up and deal with it. If you hate her so bad, than why do you invest so much time time in hating her? There are plenty of celebrities I don’t like, so I pay no attention to them. Keep on hating, see where it gets you.
i have 3 words about Gwyneth’s acting chops – Shakespeare in Love. She’s a child of Hollywood royalty, and is just trying to have a normal life, and people hate her for that? If you look closely at all the little things she does so well in the Ironman films, she doesn’t miss a beat, she plays the character as a person, not a comic-con.
IMO she can do no wrong. She puts 110% into everything she does, whether it’s drama, comedy, perfecting the English accent, or just being completely silly on talk shows. I wish people would stop being so mean. There’s no excuse for it.
