Image Credit: Amy Graves/WireImage.comHere at PW headquarters, we’ve written many, many times about a possible Lindsay Lohan comeback. (See: here, here, here, here, here, here. And that’s just in the last year alone.) And today, on the day that she’s reportedly left a less-than-drama-free stay at Betty Ford — what with that whole criminal battery investigation thing — we have the opportunity to do so once again. After all, the actress’ website recently underwent a makeover. Surely, it’s time she actually accomplished a successful image overhaul herself.
But what will work for her? She tried making fun of her troubles via this year’s MTV Video Music Awards. That, however, only succeeded in making many critics, and fans, sad pandas. She boasted a role in this year’s cultish Robert Rodriguez flick, Machete. Unfortunately, her character’s affection for weaponry only seemed to remind folks of this. She tried jumping on board Inferno, a steamy biopic about Linda Lovelace that seemed destined for awards chatter (whether said chatter would surround an Oscar or Razzie, of course, would have remained to be seen). But after violating her probation, checking into jail for a short-lived stint, failing a drug test, and getting sent to rehab, the film’s director bailed on Lohan, replacing her with Malin Akerman.
Looking at her 2010, it’s hard to imagine how Lohan can win, regardless of what she chooses to do post-rehab. And frankly, after speculating for months about what she can do with her career once she pulls herself together, I’ve run out of ideas. So I’m going to turn it over to you, PopWatchers. How should Lohan spend her 2011? Vote in our poll below. Wah.

She needs to LAY LOW…if she just goes right into work, no one will take her seriously. By the summer of 2011, she should consider auditioning for small roles on TV. Film is too ambitious for her right now and she’s way too low on the totem pole with girls like Evan Rachel Wood, Jennifer Lawrence, Carey Mulligan, etc…way ahead of her on short and long lists. Also she needs to tell her parents to shut up and stop acting like she is getting all these offers, it only hurts her.
I’d like to see her host SNL again at some point.
I’d like her to overdose and get outta my hair!
Britney has done well in recovery with the support of her Dad, who got rid of all of her, ” friends.” Sadly, it seems as though Lindsay’s parents want attention and fame more than recovery….no wait, there can’t be recovery if she never had a problem.
You’re exactly right! She “never had a problem.” It’s clear that Dina is an enabler. If she wasn’t, she would speak to the paps as often as she does…it’s getting more than a bit ridiculous, let’s be honest here.
Oops, can’t type! Should say “she WOULDN’T speak…”
ANd as evidenced by these PopWatch posts, EW is an enabler as well.
She needs to get as far away from Hollywood as possible. Far, far away from her enablers (mom) who turn a blind eye to her self destruction. I honestly believe this is her last chance, no more do overs. The fact that she keeps getting second chances is staggering. She will end up dead. If her mom had one ounce of love for her she would take her far away and never return. But sadly, it won’t happen.
I think she should lay low for a while and not worry too much about a career comeback. I think it’s still possible for her to get her life back on track as long as she surrounds herself with good, positive people who want the best for her (i.e. not her parents). She needs to take better care of herself.
Then, should she decide to try to fix her career, she should start with supporting roles in ensemble films, like she did in movies like Bobby and A Prairie Home Companion. Starting with smaller roles like that, in my opinion, would be her best bet to reinvigorate her career. If her performances are well-received and if the people she works with speak highly of her (as many did in the past), then it will be easier for her to gain the trust of other filmmakers to give her bigger roles.
She should probably lay low for a while, then try to make another comeback. But if I’m being honest I don’t doubt that she’ll be back in rehab or jail by this time next month.
I could say something snarky here (“She’s obviously going to fail…”) but I will be honest: I have no desire to see her act or sing in anything. Lindsay doesn’t seem like some nice, smart girl who just unfortunately has a problem; I don’t LIKE her as a person. She seems very manipulative, selfish, full of herself (without reason.. nice pumped up lips and thigh-high stockings). I don’t wish for her recovery because I know it’s a) futile, and b) if she does recover she’ll only chase down the paparazzi more.
What should she do? Don’t unpack.
Run Lyndsay Run! Get the hell out & don’t ever look back!
I truly had high hopes for her since I enjoyed “The Parent Trap”. She then followed that up (a few years later of course) with “Freaky Friday” and “Mean Girls” (both box office hits). But then she started showing up on tabloids and I knew it didn’t bode well for her. She should just go away for now — take stock of herself and what she truly wants out of life.
I fear due to high profile money issues. Her needs will be outweighted by the need to make money. So what she needs is to go to a place like Montana for six months or maybe a year. Do no show business activities whatsoever and say lowkey. Maintain her sobriety. And then inch back… But I fear her need to be the public eye and to make money to solve her financial hard times will mean she’ll try to get back as quick as possible and it will harm whatever comeback she can make… Of course if Robert Downey Jr. can do it. But his comeback took YEARS to unfold. Lindsay is still young; so she has the time. But I fear she’s burnt down all the bridges. She’s unexmployable due to her insurancable issues… Although if she can find a project. She needs to find one that is a television show that shoots down south…aways from the glare of the Hollywood and New York social scene… And concentrate on her health. But then I also cynically believe she hasn’t hit rock bottom yet. She only went rehab to stay out of jail. Which she was going to be sent to if she hadn’t gone to rehab. And it’s been rumored that she went to bars while still at Betty Ford. And there is that pesky criminal complaint that even though has been withdrawn still can bite her in the butt… Lindsay just needs to get out of dodge and stay gone for a long time!
I think Lindsay should put all of her energy in to her new cosmetic line called FRECKLES.
I don’t get why people think she’s some super talent. She is no better or worse than the next young actress. One thing she needs to do is not set foot in any bar or nightclub, even if she doesn’t plan on drinking. Why put herself in those situations? On a superficial level, she should let her hair return to its original red color and stop with the lip injections.
She should buy some BOOZE and HOTPANTS!
I truly wish Lindsay the best and hope that this time she wont prove all her haters right.
Yeah this train-wreck will be back on the bottle in no time once her probation is over with! Guarantee it! Once she doesn’t have to piss for the Judge and or probation officer she will be back to her old ways, this time with even more serious consequences. She will probably injure herself or kill someone with her driving under the influence. Sorry Blohan, no one is buying that you are ‘recovered’ you are just doing this to get through under the judges radar. You’re a mess!
I’m thinking doing a year of actual service/charity work would do her a world of good. Getting rid of her possessions, getting away from her family and all the shallow, superficial people she seems to surround herself with. Go work on a kibbutz; actually put in some physical work for others and get out of your own head. (And don’t do it for the media coverage!)
A “comeback” is the worst thing Lindsay could possibly strive for after this. She needs to get out of Hollywood and focus on HER LIFE! If she stays in L.A., I fear the temptation to sink back into her old habits will overtake her and god knows it may even lead to her death. She needs to acknowledge the fact she is an ADDICT and take every precaution from relapsing…she should move to some secluded place and maybe after a year or so–if she truly believes that acting is her passion–she should start auditioning for small parts in indie films/tv shows and slowly start rebuilding her career. But hey, it’s her life.
